Draven

Overview

Draven Skyforge is an elementalist known as the Wanderer of Xolterra. He has fought in Xalmyrra's mage tournaments and traveled through Thalcoris and Aurivallis. He wrote The Eleven Stories of Old, combining accounts of the nations' founders with stories of Arcanis.

Appearance

Draven has a muscular body. He wears a hooded cloak and keeps his face in shadow when entering the tournament arena.

Magic

Draven is ranked at level nine in lightning and air magic. He also uses fire, water, earth, ice, aether magic and resonance magic. He shapes lightning into solid bolts and large swords, combines fire with wind and moves rapidly enough to evade attacks without blinking.

History

Draven fought Brynor years before his return to Xalmyrra. He came close to defeating him through raw magical power, then disappeared for several years.

On his return, he defeated Kaelion by placing frozen lightning across the arena and turning it into a web that trapped him through his illusions. He then narrowly defeated Deylin in the final, after their spells destroyed the arena floor and strained its protective shields.

During Eira, Lythariel and Cassian's journey to the western gate, Draven intervened against the woman pursuing them. He threw Cassian clear of the fight and held off their pursuer, allowing the three to reach the island and pass through the gate. He later disappeared from Xalmyrra again.

In Thalcoris, Draven defeated Ziyara within seconds. He left copies of The Eleven Stories of Old in Thalcoris and Aurivallis. The copy Cassian read in Aurivallis carries his warning that killing the moon's previous wielder had failed to stop the goddess from choosing Meliora. He asked for someone to kill Meliora and the goddess within her to free their people.

His determination to become stronger has endangered people around him. His clash with Zharrek devastated Raindawn, and Master Han died protecting the city from its effects. Jin recognized his responsibility for the destruction. Although he had blamed Feng for neglecting Thundermarch, he returned to defend its people rather than pursue revenge against the emperor.

Jin helped raise Thalia in Chronasis before leaving to find Eira. He also records the histories of people he meets during his travels.

He combines air and lightning to fly and accelerate through combat. His frozen lightning swords carry lightning within ice; he fights with them at close range and throws successive blades at distant targets. He also lays frozen lightning across the ground to form a web that traps his opponents.

Jin can form tornadoes, redirect lightning and clear smoke and debris with air.

Tianlei strengthens Jin's elemental magic and gives him access to the god's accumulated essence.

History

Thundermarch

Jin grew up in Stormbrook and trained at the Cloudrift Temple. Master Han trained him alongside Zhang, who became his friend and rival. Jin completed the temple's ascent to the snowy peak at seventeen and later took part in the cave trial that brought him into contact with Khoradyn and his companions.

After finding his family dead, Jin was caught in the miasma around their home. Zhang pulled him free and helped him recover. Jin subsequently trained with Khoradyn's group, learning from Khoradyn's earth and ice magic, Kren's precise air magic and Rhalyn's enchantments. He and Rhalyn became lovers.

When Shaoying attacked Cloudrift, Jin and Rhalyn fled to Stormpeak. There he killed Ren Wuye, Tianlei's former wielder, and Ren's companions. Rhalyn had strengthened Jin with an enchantment before the fight. Tianlei offered Jin a pact, forbade him from killing Feng and directed him to find and protect Eira.

Jin left Thundermarch with Rhalyn. After they crossed the veil into Varentis, she lost her memories of their life together. He left her there and continued toward Xalmyrra, promising to find a way to restore them.

Thalassai and Xalmyrra

Jin took the name Draven Skyforge and worked through Rhyzmar's guild in Irrathis. He fought Brynor in a tournament and lost. After reading an earlier copy of The Eleven Stories of Old, he began expanding its accounts and distributing his versions during his travels.

His search for stronger opponents led him to Thalassai. Naryon trained him in water magic, Ignaros in fire and cooking, Calythos in earth magic and farming, and Zephyra in air magic. Jin also trained with Nethira and Astryx. In Chronasis, Thalena taught him aether magic. Their duel ended in his victory.

Jin and Thalena became lovers. Their daughter Thalia was born while he lived in Chronasis, and he helped care for her. He left to resume Tianlei's task of protecting Eira seventeen years after first arriving in Xalmyrra.

Jin sparred with Eira and Kaelion at the camp, then traveled with them aboard a Thalassai windweaver to investigate the Order's history.

Thalassai and Xalmyrra

Jin took the name Draven Skyforge and worked through Rhyzmar's guild in Irrathis. He fought Brynor in a tournament and lost. After reading an earlier copy of The Eleven Stories of Old, he began expanding its accounts and distributing his versions during his travels.

His search for stronger opponents led him to Thalassai. Naryon trained him in water magic, Ignaros in fire and cooking, Calythos in earth magic and farming, and Zephyra in air magic. Jin also trained with Nethira and Astryx. In Chronasis, Thalena taught him aether magic and fought him in a duel that she deliberately allowed him to win.

Jin and Thalena became lovers. Their daughter Thalia was born while he lived in Chronasis, and he helped care for her. He left to resume Tianlei's task of protecting Eira seventeen years after first arriving in Xalmyrra.

During his travels, Jin killed the moon's previous wielder in Aurivallis, intending to free the people from the goddess. The attempt failed when she chose Meliora. He left a warning in The Eleven Stories of Old asking for Meliora and the goddess within her to be killed.

On returning to Irrathis, Jin defeated Kaelion and narrowly beat Deylin in the tournament final. He helped protect Irrathis and Aemrith during the cataclysm. When Eira, Lythariel and Cassian traveled toward the western gate, Jin held off the woman pursuing them and threw Cassian clear of the fight, allowing the three to escape Xalmyrra.

Overview

Jin Leiyun is an elementalist from Thundermarch and a member of the Order of Thalion Zenith. He was the wielder of Tianlei and traveled under the names Draven Skyforge and John the Elementalist. He is Thalia's father and was Thalena's lover.

Jin expanded The Eleven Stories of Old and recorded accounts of Thundermarch, the archons of Thalassai and the Order. He helped bring Thalion's companions back from the past and later fought to defend Valrindor against the remnants of Malverand.

Appearance

Jin has a muscular body and jet black hair. He often wears a hooded cloak. During his years in Varnhallow, he grew his hair into a ponytail. When he traveled as John, he shaved his beard and wore the purple robes of a patriarch. His face had deeper lines when he returned to his own time.

Personality

Jin repeatedly challenges stronger mages and trains after his defeats. He sought rematches with Brynor, Virel and Sigurd, and challenged Garrik after watching him fight Eremion. His interest in dueling also led him to study practical magic under the archons, whose lessons often required farming, cooking and other work he had not expected.

His determination to become stronger has endangered people around him. His clash with Zharrek devastated Raindawn, and Master Han died protecting the city from its effects. Jin recognized his responsibility for the destruction. Although he had blamed Feng for neglecting Thundermarch, he returned to defend its people rather than pursue revenge against the emperor.

Jin protects Thalia and repeatedly arranges his travels around seeing her. He refused to cooperate with the invasion of Thalassai while she remained inside the nation. He also records the histories of people he meets, including stories that would otherwise disappear with their deaths.

Magic

Jin uses lightning, air, fire, water, earth and ice, alongside aether magic and resonance magic. He is ranked at level nine in lightning and air magic. His studies under the archons broadened the uses he could make of the elements, from growing crops and controlling water to cooking with fire and ice.

He combines air and lightning to fly and accelerate through combat. His frozen lightning swords carry lightning within ice; he fights with them at close range and throws successive blades at distant targets. He can reinforce the blades with sand hardened by earth magic. He also lays frozen lightning across the ground to form a web that traps his opponents.

Jin can form tornadoes, redirect lightning and clear smoke and debris with air.

Tianlei strengthened Jin's elemental magic and gave him access to the god's accumulated essence. Jin retained his own magic when their pact was broken.

History

Thundermarch

Jin grew up in Stormbrook and trained at the Cloudrift Temple. Master Han trained him alongside Zhang, who became his friend and rival. Jin completed the temple's ascent to the snowy peak at seventeen and later took part in the cave trial that brought him into contact with Khoradyn and his companions.

After finding his family dead, Jin was caught in the miasma around their home. Zhang pulled him free and helped him recover. Jin subsequently trained with Khoradyn's group, learning from Khoradyn's earth and ice magic, Kren's precise air magic and Rhalyn's enchantments. He and Rhalyn became lovers.

When Shaoying attacked Cloudrift, Jin and Rhalyn fled to Stormpeak. There he killed Ren Wuye, Tianlei's former wielder, and Ren's companions. Return to Valrindor

After Eira returned to her own time and reached the vault, Jin's preserved hand was reattached. Brynor cut off the hand that had grown in its place, Ozaith moved the preserved hand into position, Lysander joined it to Jin's arm and Eira restarted his heart. Tianlei regained access to the God Realm.

Jin recovered alongside Thalion's companions in Kaldaryn. He agreed to record their full stories and traveled with Xarion and Aelius toward Rimvold and Thalassai. He wanted to see Thalia and take her exploring once they had recovered.

During the attack south of Pyrenis, Jin fought Qadir and recognized the danger of the essence stored in the crystal there. When Abraxas told him to protect Cassian, Jin carried Cassian away from the blast and helped build their defenses. Tianlei descended and shielded them while Abraxas acted against the detonation.

Jin gathered Abraxas's scattered particles with aether magic after the explosion. He later guided them into an empty core provided by Cyrena.

Jin later fought beside Maric in the hurricane Azarion unleashed. He redirected lightning, opened paths through the storm and attacked Myrelia and Azarion's defended ship. He could divert parts of the hurricane but could not control the entire storm. He withdrew when Alistair's much stronger spells and Kaelion's descending sun made it impossible to remain. Eira healed him afterward, and Zayren carried him away before Myrelia's explosion.

At Alistair's demand, Tianlei and the other descended gods were forced to remain human, and Cassian severed their connection to the God Realm. Jin helped Tianlei adjust to human life, with Thalia teaching the former god how to dress and eat.

Jin continued writing with Thalena. He also assisted Nethira during the surgery on Kaelion, using blades of air and ice to keep the incision open under her guidance. Thalena held Kaelion in temporal stasis and drew out the orb the surgeons were working to remove.

Jin left Chronasis with Thalia, Rhalyn and Tianlei to find the first elementalist and explore Thundermarch. Splin flew them to Thalmyris, where they boarded the Pontarius flagship. He later returned with Thalia, Tianlei and Loria, the first elementalist, and brought news of what they had found to Thalena.
