Overview
Naryon is the Thalassai archon of water and current archon of Thalmyris, the water-aligned port region on Xolterra's southeastern coast. He succeeds Pontarius after Pontarius leaves politics for command of Thalassai's navy, and he later travels to Xalmyrra as a Thalassai diplomat.
Character and Magic
Naryon is dutiful, composed, and warmly diplomatic, with enough ease among Thalassai's archons to challenge, advise, and joke with them. He has flowing brown hair and moves with graceful water control, often arriving on conjured waves and using dance-like water control.
As an archon-level water mage, Naryon teaches Jin Leiyun in the Palace of Water after Jin crosses the storms into Thalassai. Jin defeats him in a multi-element duel and later in a water-only duel, and Naryon is the weakest of the archons in combat. He teaches resilient, precise water magic in the Palace of Water.
Thalassai Duties
Naryon holds Thalmyris's archon seat in meetings and shares sea-route intelligence, southern reconnaissance, storm updates, and darkness movements with Pontarius. He tracks the receding eastern storms, the southern darkness's spread across islands, and the threat to Thalmyris and Pyrenis, then brings Pontarius and the legions into the response.
He aligns Thalmyris with Thalena against oppressive gods and the darkness. Near Chronasis, he and Calythos offer their essence so Thalena can contain a god, then Naryon urges her to rest and gives her his robes. After Thalena's apparent loss, he joins the archons in nominating Cassian as archon of time, welcomes Tazarin and the Tenari to a sixth archon seat, and kneels with Thalassai's archons before Cassian.
Xalmyrra Diplomacy
By the time of the Xalmyrran alliance work, Naryon knows Xalmyrra, Thundermarch, the current Khoradyn, and the ancient Khoradyn as Thalmyris's founder. When the storms and cycles break, Cassian sends Naryon with Pontarius, Lythariel, and Astryx toward Irrathis to begin alliance work with Xalmyrra.
In the post-cycle period, Naryon remains archon of water while holding a seat on the Xalmyrran Council. He, Xandor, and Sarine handle paperwork, trade, and ocean routes between nations. Naryon travels by train and windweaver and carries information between Xalmyrra and Thalassai during new threats.
