Overview
Zephyra is the Thalassai archon of air and ruler of Aetherion, the high-plateau region known for air magic, windweavers, skylorns, and the Palace of Air. Thalena adopted her as a child after a storm near Thalmyris sank the ship carrying her parents, and Zephyra grew up in Stella Aeterna among Thalassai's archons, chronarcs, imperators, and legions.
After Lunorax resigned as archon of air to remain in Chronasis as Thalena's chronarc, Zephyra succeeded him and became a governing archon of Thalassai. She governs Aetherion, attends archon meetings, carries urgent messages, and Cassian calls on her for military messages and air-archon assignments.
Appearance and Demeanor
Zephyra moves through the world in constant motion: she flies, hovers, spins, descends in gusts, and enters rooms like a sudden gale. She has blue or sky-blue hair and wears teal robes and teal-and-silver clothing.
Zephyra is wild, energetic, affectionate, teasing, blunt, protective, and dutiful. She interrupts solemnity with jokes, hugs, pointed embarrassment, or direct scolding, especially around Thalena and Cassian. She pushes Thalena to leave her isolation, comforts Cassian after Thalena's disappearance, and accepts military or diplomatic tasks when danger rises.
Abilities and archon Duties
Zephyra is an archon-level air mage with strong command of wind magic. She can fly, hover, move quickly between locations, redirect people with gusts, cushion landings, and shape air around allies. Her control is precise enough to clean and dry people with directed currents. Her battlefield use of air magic includes cutting force, shielding, and rapid movement.
As Aetherion's archon, Zephyra governs a region of windweavers, skylorn culture, aerial duels, and high-altitude travel. Jin Leiyun trains with her in Aetherion during his path through Thalassai's archons; he defeats her in an air-magic duel, then stays long enough to learn from her intuitive approach to wind magic. Zephyra also uses windweavers and resonance stones for travel and messages as Thalassai's long-distance communication improves.
History
Zephyra grows up in Stella Aeterna as Thalena's adopted daughter. When Thalena later adopts Aelius, she introduces him to Zephyra as her little brother, and the two become a chaotic pair in Thalena's household.
As archon of air, Zephyra speaks for Aetherion in Thalassai politics. She hosts travelers in the Palace of Air, brings Kaelion, Cassian, Arinella, and Thalena into Aetherion, and joins negotiations involving Thalassai and Thalcoris. She joins Calythos and Tazarin in trade and mage-aid talks between Thalassai and Thalcoris.
During and after the Thalassai Invasion, Zephyra fights beside Thalassai's defenders near Chronasis, protects Silas and Tazarin from a shockwave during the confrontation around Nahm and Lunorax, and comforts Cassian after Thalena's disappearance. She continues taking military and messenger assignments when Cassian prepares Thalassai's response after the Solvarria and Pyrenis Campaign and Nerissa's Invasion of Xalmyrra.
