Overview
Halgarr is a Vintergard commander from the northern guard and a practical ally of the Skarnheim Alliance. He serves around Rimvold, Kaldspire, and Bjarnholt, handling guard checks, escorts, vault access, ship transport, and messages for leaders such as Sigurd, Svanhild, and Thorik.
Appearance and Manner
Halgarr is compact and formidable, with iron-strong arms, rough hands, and a rune-marked axe often carried across his back. He speaks tersely and acts without ceremony, wearing practical clothing, bracers, gauntlets, and fur-lined cloaks when traveling from Vintergard.
Duties and Abilities
Halgarr uses runic gear for travel and combat. He uses rune-inscribed travel planks, carries a rune-marked axe, and rides a floating axe during aerial fighting.
Halgarr also controls access to the vaults beneath the Great Hall of Rimvold. He carries the massive iron key, opens the ancient library for trusted visitors, retrieves The Eleven Stories of Old, and guides searches through old Valrindor records.
History
When Eira, Silas, and Lythariel cross through Vintergard, Svanhild sends Halgarr to check the northern pass. He judges them capable, lets them through, and allows them to use his name if anyone stops them on the road. He later meets them again in Kaldspire.
In Rimvold, Halgarr repeatedly guides allies into the Great Hall's vaults. He escorts Jin, Eira, Kaelion, Kren, and Vianna to the preserved ancient books, including the copy of The Eleven Stories of Old; its eleventh chapter contains dense, spell-worked text in Xalmyrran, Valrindor, and another language.
At the Kyranthos meeting, Halgarr arrives with Svanhild for Skarnheim. When Bjarnholt is being consumed by darkness, he takes Vianna and Virel by ship to meet Thorik, points them toward Stormhaven's front lines, and later accepts Virel's marked message so he can request a meeting with Simon in Haverloch.
Halgarr later serves with runic mages in Garrik's army, catches Garrik on his floating axe during the Siege of Omberion, leads flying mages toward enemy skyships, and takes a turn against Gabriel at Cyndarel before being forced out of the fight.
