Overview
Eira Caedris, who later uses the name Aruviel, is a Xalmyrran council investigator, scholar, Hrzai's wielder, and divine and temporal mage whose life crosses the cycles, Varnhallow, ancient Malverand, Vireen, and the Zarephon breach. She begins in Irrathis chasing ruins, visions, and old records for the Xalmyrran Council. The spiral mark on her palm pulls her into Xol'Zahir's shard trail, the Aethrendar Gate mystery, the lost history of Malverand, and the long plan to break the cycles.
Eira is the daughter of Deylin and Ilyra. Lirien raises and mentors her, Aldar favors her and draws her into council work, and Kaelion becomes her partner. Under the name Aruviel, she lives in ancient Malverand, marries Eremion, studies under Arcanis, and joins the Vireen expedition.
Appearance
In Irrathis, Eira has loose blond hair, green eyes, pale skin, and the practical look of someone used to ruins and council work. She wears boots, robes or tunics, and a cloak embroidered with the council's four-circle insignia. After the shard and the darkness alter her body, the blond is gone for a time: her hair becomes dark amber, her green eyes gain gold flecks, and her body becomes leaner, thinner, and stronger.
Her appearance keeps changing as Hrzai's power, temporal magic, and the Malverand heart work through her. During the Halcyra and Varnhallow years, her hair turns almost entirely golden and gains tiny silver strands. After the Zarephon breach, her golden hair stands out against the near-black Intergalactic Empire clothing she wears.
Hrzai's power, temporal magic, and Malverand technology preserve Eira's body through millennia. Her body still changes; she wakes from temporal stasis and continues into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire.
Clothing and Gear
Eira's clothing changes with the places she moves through. In Xalmyrra, she wears mission-ready clothes: boots, tunics, robes, and her council cloak. The cloak matters because it marks her as working for the council even when she is uncomfortable with the council's half-truths. After Xol'Zahir's shard and the Land of Darkness alter her body, Lythariel keeps practical clothes ready for her, and Eira often ends up covered in dust, dirt, or training damage before changing again.
In Atraxis Prime, Eira wears the robes given to her by Jorhan's people. She keeps them even though they come from enemies, because Jareth and Amos were kind to her. The robes are dark and sleek enough to stand out in gilded halls and formal spaces.
In Ashenford, Victor provides Eira and Lythariel with more presentable clothing, and they later keep warmer Ashenford clothes for travel toward Vintergard. In Xolterra, Eira receives a gold-and-blue dress with reinforced seams: elegant enough to inspire awe, but still made for someone who needs to fight. In Varnhallow and Halcyra, she wears the deep purple robes of the divine patriarchs after Eltaru's people take her in.
After the Zarephon breach carries her, Kaelion, Xarion, Hrzai, Xoh'Tenol, and Ozaith into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, Eira uses modern Malverand gear. Isandro and his people provide essence-containing outfits, a wrist device, glasses for reading documents and pulling up information, and sleek black clothing suited to Maraveth and the warpships. She likes the sturdy black leather outfit enough to ask whether she can keep it. Later, when she gets access to a clothing synthesizer, she designs a glittering gold-and-silver outfit to match her hair.
Personality
Eira is curious before anything else. She reads whenever she can, chases ruins and hidden histories, studies languages, asks questions people dodge, and gets visibly excited by unfamiliar technology. She likes books, artifacts, gates, machines, and old records because they give her something solid to work with when everyone around her is hiding parts of the truth.
She is also stubborn and direct. Aldar, Deylin, Jorhan, Raphael's circle, and the Malverand scientists all run into the same problem: Eira resents being moved around like a piece on a board. She can be impatient, invasive with her magic, and too calm about danger after living through enough of it, but her bluntness usually comes from wanting people alive and answers in the open.
Her protectiveness is practical. She heals injured allies and captives, shields people under attack, argues for options that preserve lives, and keeps responsibility for the sleepers in the Malverand vault even when the task stretches across centuries. Long life makes her bolder about social rules. Outliving people sharpens the fear of losing them.
Magic and Skills
During the early Xalmyrran tournament, Eira enters as a level three mage, but that number stops describing her once Xol'Zahir's shard gives her darkness magic, Hrzai gives her god-core power, Deylin's inheritance gives her temporal magic, and the Malverand heart keeps her alive. Her first new power set comes through the spiral shard and darkness magic. She uses darkness tendrils, survives contact with the Land of Darkness, and becomes Xol'Zahir's shard wielder before Hrzai changes the shape of her magic.
Eira creates life magic and uses restorative magic before she fully understands divine power. With Hrzai, her healing expands into god-core restoration: golden shields, barriers, enchantments, severe wound repair, body restoration, and enough divine force to save people who would otherwise die. Hrzai's golden tree mark in her palm becomes proof of their bond and a visible sign of the power she carries.
Her temporal magic comes through Deylin's inheritance and lets her blink, make temporal barriers, handle timerifts, work with stasis, and read or adjust temporal spellwork. This magic keeps her alive in Varnhallow, sustains her years in Halcyra, and makes the long stasis plan possible for displaced Order members and god cores in the Malverand vault.
Eira also has unusual origin senses. She can read hidden structures, instructions, essence patterns, spell mechanics, and the inner logic of machines or altered bodies. The ability is extraordinary, and Eira later uses it around gates, the source, the Zarephon breach, Malverand technology, Isandro's machine-altered body, and the capsule systems used to preserve survivors from the void.
As Aruviel, Eira becomes a capable Malverand technician and specialist. She studies under Arcanis, receives technical training from Eremion, redesigns Malverine with Eremion and Arcanis, works on skyship and gate problems, joins the Vireen expedition, and later uses that knowledge to open the Malverand vault and maintain its temporal stasis systems.
History
Eira's early life takes place in Irrathis under the Xalmyrran Council. She works council missions with Lirien, investigates ruins and artifacts, and follows visions after the spiral mark appears in her palm. Aldar sends her into missions involving ruins, Varnhallow, and old Malverand records while withholding parts of the truth, and Eira's frustration with him grows alongside her sense that the mark is pulling her toward the cycles.
The search for Xol'Zahir's shard and the source of the darkness takes Eira beyond Xalmyrra through Xolterra, Thalassai, Thalcoris, and Atraxis Prime. She travels with Kaelion, Cassian, Jin, and Lythariel while learning that Deylin and Ilyra are her parents. Hrzai forms a pact with her and makes Eira the wielder of Malverand's first successful god core.
Varnhallow changes the course of her life. Eira, Kaelion, Jin, and their companions enter the temporal nation seeking answers, but the unstable barrier and Horol’Khai's interference separate Eira and send her far into the past. She survives the displacement through Hrzai's power, the Malverand heart, and her growing temporal skill.
In ancient Malverand, Eira uses the name Aruviel and works as a mage from the Xalmyrra region. She studies and researches under Arcanis, marries Eremion, redesigns Malverine with Eremion and Arcanis, and joins the Vireen expedition as a skyship specialist and pilot. On Vireen, she studies the colony's gate systems and receives Barachiel after he arrives dying. Arcanis later reaches the planet before his death there.
After the Vireen expedition, Eira preserves displaced people, god cores, and Malverand gate knowledge in a Malverand vault. She places Thalion, Kaelion, Jin, Abraxas, and Vianna in temporal stasis, with Ozaith waking her every five centuries so she can maintain the system. When the chosen date arrives, she wakes the sleepers and returns with firsthand knowledge of Malverand, Vireen, and the Order that Valrindor has largely lost.
In 5368 AX, Eira opens the vault for the sleeping Order members as Aruviel and understands both ancient Malverand's failure and the immediate danger around the source. After the attempt beneath Zarephon collapses, Eira, Kaelion, Xarion, Hrzai, Xoh'Tenol, and Ozaith cross the breach into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire. There she studies the other Valrindor with Isandro, Amos, Rafe, Eamon, and Mike, tracks Thalena and the capsule-bound survivors, and weighs whether the breach can be stabilized or closed.
