Kaelion Saeryth is a temporal and sun mage from Soltheris, a member of the Council and Eira's partner. He formerly advised Aurion and is the new wielder of Xoh’Tenol's sun shard. His mother is Isrynn, and his father is the former King Therion, now known in Thalcoris as Tazarin. Aurion is his half brother.

Kaelion has dark blond hair and green eyes. The sun shard is embedded in his palm, where its light forms the mark of the sun.

He traveled to Maraveth with Eira and Jin Leiyun, where Garrik's forces were holding ground against Eremion. Kaelion supported Garrik in the battle, attacking from behind divine shields. He was injured, and Eira healed him. During the later stalemate, he continued teaching Eira temporal magic.

Kaelion challenged Garrik to a duel, but Garrik turned as he blinked behind him and knocked him out of the circle with one punch. Garrik told him his blink was slightly too slow and could be countered by trained senses; Kaelion agreed to work on it.

Kaelion grew up in Zeydrith with Isrynn, an accomplished temporal mage and advisor to Aurion. He studied at the city's magic school, where his temporal talent appeared early. Astheron taught him and encouraged him to study cosmic magic, but Kaelion preferred illusions, which he thought might explain Arcanis's defeat of the armies in the War of Scars. Isrynn taught him when her duties allowed and never told him who his father was.

Aurion received Kaelion at the Luminary Halls when he was 16. After Isrynn joined the Council in Irrathis, Kaelion took her place among Aurion's advisors, working alongside Astheron, Kaelric and Daryas. He became increasingly critical of the king's pursuit of enlightenment.

When Isrynn disappeared on a Council mission, Kaelion sought admission to the Council himself. Aldar initially refused to discuss her work. After Kaelion joined, he learned that she had been surveying the waters beyond northern Keldara. He followed her trail and questioned Feryon and Durvek, who had last seen her, but found no sign of her. He remained with the Council, fighting darkness and carrying out its missions while looking for her.

Eira and the Temple of No Return

Kaelion met Eira through the Council and came to admire her deductions. In the previous Xalmyrran cycle, he traveled with Eira and Lirien to the Temple of No Return, promising Eira that they would spend time together after returning to Irrathis. In the final Xalmyrran cycle, he went to the temple with Lirien without Eira. Lirien entered alone and did not return; Kaelion waited outside for days. After Eira returned from the previous cycle, their memories of each other no longer agreed. During a colosseum duel, temporal magic restored his own memory of Eira and the promise he had made. He renewed their relationship.

When foreign skyships approached Kaldaryn City, Kaelion, Eira and Zayren inspected them on Splin. Kaelion warned the city guard. The attack struck as they prepared to leave aboard Drendyll's skyship. Isrynn overloaded her magic while protecting their escape and died. Splin was wounded. Kaelion ordered Drendyll to escape, then a misfired solar spell destroyed Drendyll's skyship. Nahm intervened, and Remus caught Kaelion with air magic. Xarion later brought him back to his companions.

Kaelion visited Tazarin in Irrathis and travelled with him and Lirien to Zeydrith, where they reunited with Aurion. He remained close to his brother after Aurion surrendered the throne to Daryas and later held his hand at his deathbed.

Novaris, Xoh and the Malverand heart

Kaelion accompanied Eira to the obelisks on Novaris. His hand was burned when he touched an obelisk, and he raised a cosmic shield against the blast. Eira healed him. He disappeared briefly during the expedition and returned with a solar core inside him. Recordings later confirmed the disappearance, but did not establish who implanted the core.

During the Spiral Mandate's attack on Proxion, Kaelion fought beside Xarion. His temporal solar spear destroyed the attacking force. They were left in space without a ship; Xarion shared oxygen with him until they were rescued.

After Alistair made the gods human, Xoh’Tenol became a woman known as Xoh. Kaelion helped her adjust to life without her former senses and power. She stayed close to him, and the core in his body drew him toward her, though he continued to love Eira.

Thalena arranged to place Eremion's heart in him without his consent. Eira and Xoh held his arms, Ozaith restrained his legs and Thalena forced the heart into his chest. The wound healed around it. Kaelion resented being denied a choice, but later forgave Thalena when she apologized.

Thalena met Kaelion, Eira, Xoh and Splin before their expedition to the obelisks in the Navan Sea. She intercepted them and asked them to join the Valrindor Council's planned mission in Ithyreon. They returned to Chronasis with her.
