Overview
Kaelion Saeryth is a Soltheris-born council mage, the Voice of the Veil, and the chosen wielder of Xoh’Tenol. At the Xalmyrran tournament, he competes as a level eight illusionist. After Xoh’Tenol chooses him in Thalcoris, Kaelion becomes the future emperor in Tenari eyes while Tazarin remains the living emperor, and develops sun magic alongside his existing illusion and temporal talents.
Tazarin / Therion is Kaelion's father, making Aurion his half-brother. During the Varnhallow displacement, he lives in the ancient past as Kallion, Hand of the Star, and becomes an honored mage in Ereshval. After the Zarephon breach, he crosses with Eira and Xarion into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, where he lives as Kaelion Sunbreaker.
Appearance
Kaelion begins with dark-blond hair, green eyes, and the polished bearing of a Soltheris council mage. His bond with Xoh’Tenol makes him increasingly sun-marked: his hair becomes brighter and more radiant, his body gives off heat, and his eyes can blaze with molten red and orange when he channels sun power.
His clothing changes with his travels: Soltheris and council attire early on, Chronasis-style robes in Thalassai, white and bronze robes in Ereshval, and essence-containing black clothing in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire.
Personality
Kaelion is composed, observant, protective, and dryly humorous. He is comfortable in council politics and formal settings, but he carries private uncertainty around Soltheris, Aurion, Isrynn, and his obligations to Xalmyrra, Thalcoris, Ereshval, and Malverand.
He often slows Eira's more impulsive choices, questions dangerous plans, and prefers to understand a situation before committing. When his friends are threatened, he acts decisively. His closest bonds include Eira, Jin, Splin, Isrynn, Tazarin, Xoh’Tenol, and allies from Thalassai, Valrindor, and the Order.
Abilities and Magic
Kaelion begins as a level eight illusionist and is later announced as a level ten sun and temporal mage after defeating Aldar in a duel. His illusion background comes from Soltheris and the Xalmyrran Council, while his temporal magic comes from Isrynn's lineage and Thalena's training. He uses blinks, temporal shields, temporal instruction, and precise temporal work such as making the severing of shard-bearing hands painless during the Varnhallow return plan.
After Xoh’Tenol chooses him, Kaelion fights with sun spears, miniature suns, solar flares, solar barriers, intense heat, and stabilizing sun essence. With Xoh’Tenol's power, the god's essence can merge with Kaelion's own essence, and his combat strength draws on both trained magic and shard power.
Kaelion also develops cosmic magic through Tazarin's lineage. As Kallion, he combines cosmic and sun magic during the Morindel battle: Zero traps Eremion in a singularity, Kallion drops a sun-like attack into it, and the resulting detonation destroys Morindel and creates the Morindel Sea from the lake.
Outside direct combat, Kaelion is a capable teacher and cook. In Ereshval, he teaches temporal magic, joins the northern expedition planning, cooks for the dockyard crews, feeds workers and officials with local cuisine, and earns honorary standing in the sultan's magecorps.
History
Kaelion is born in Soltheris. His mother, Isrynn, is a powerful temporal mage, and his father is Therion, known in Xolterra as Tazarin. Kaelion inherits Isrynn's advisor position before joining the Xalmyrran Council, where he serves under Aldar alongside Brynor, Mirael, Lirien, and Maelis.
In Thalcoris, Xoh’Tenol chooses Kaelion as his wielder. Tazarin and the Tenari name Kaelion the future emperor while Tazarin remains the active ruler. Kaelion uses that standing to protect his friends, then trains under Tazarin and later under Thalena, Ignaros, and Hadrian in Thalassai.
Kaelion travels through Valrindor with Eira and Jin while searching for Isrynn. He reunites with her in Laizhou, begins an uneven reconciliation, and joins Garrik's forces as Garrik's coalition moves against Shroudvale and Maraveth and later defends Kaldaryn. After returning from stasis, he is targeted during the Attack on Kaldaryn. Isrynn dies protecting him from Azarion, Eliona, and their skyships.
During the Varnhallow displacement, Kaelion becomes Kallion, Hand of the Star. He joins Zero, Ignatius, John, Isandriel, Viviana, Gren, Rhys, Thamrielle, Drashir, and Vashir among the displaced mages in the ancient past. After the Morindel battle, he spends years in Stormbrook with John, Zero, and Ignatius before Eira returns. For the Varnhallow return plan, Xoh’Tenol is removed from Kallion with the shard-bearing hand and kept safe until the restored timeline.
After the Zarephon breach, Kaelion remains with Eira and Xarion in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire. Imperial systems briefly classify him as a "sun-entity" before Isandro overrides the result, and Kaelion gives the empire's researchers information about the displaced Valrindor survivors and the capsules holding them, including Thalena's capsule.
