Overview
Raindawn is a river city in Thundermarch with skilled water mages. It lies near the western mountains on the route to the pass toward Xalmyrra, making it the target of Zharrek's westward shaper assault on Raindawn.
Geography and Defenses
Rain-kissed stone bridges cross Raindawn's waterways, rivers, and channels. On rare clear days, Raindawn glitters in the distance from Cloudrift Temple's mountain outcrops. The surrounding area includes farms, villages, livestock, docks, a large river winding north toward Cloudrift, and routes east toward Shaoying.
The city's defenses use its rivers and channels. Water mages can turn those waterways into torrents, carve channels, reinforce barriers, flood trenches, and prepare traps. During the Battle of Raindawn, earth and water magic form a defensive wall outside the city. Tower platforms give cosmic and divine mages firing positions.
Government and People
Raindawn belongs to Thundermarch under Emperor Feng. Yingshui commands Raindawn City, receives Jin when Feng sends him to defend it, and directs soldiers, mages, and allied responders during the Battle of Raindawn. The city shelters soldiers, mages, refugees, and civilians as nearby villages are evacuated ahead of the shaper army.
Shaper Attack
When Zharrek threatens Thundermarch's western region, Raindawn becomes Feng's urgent priority. Emperor Feng asks Jin to save the city before Kaldaryn's army can arrive, and Jin travels there with Zhang, Master Han, Isrynn, and Kren; Kren splits off to defend the nearby pass.
During the Battle of Raindawn, Yingshui, Master Han, Isrynn, Zhang, and Raindawn's mages hold layered defenses against Zharrek's meteors and shapers. Jin fights Zharrek outside and above the city. Raindawn survives. Its walls collapse in places, its streets are scorched or split, and bodies are left in the ruins. Master Han overloads his essence to shield the city from the worst backlash of Jin and Zharrek's clash. Afterward, Zhang, Isrynn, and Yingshui remain for rebuilding. Jin pursues Zharrek toward Skarnheim.
