Aether Magic

magic

Function

Aether magic is an advanced magic school that manipulates gravity, space, and magnetism. Mages use it for flight, levitation, propulsion, pressure fields, shields, object control, body support, aether artifacts, gravity waves, and singularities.

Capabilities

Aether spells can move almost anything if the mage is strong enough. Skilled mages collapse gravity for speed, pull targets through the air, redirect attacks, pin opponents, hold damaged bodies together, and carry groups or vessels.

Thalassai trains use aether artifacts to fall forward with essence-engine propulsion and opposing magnetism. Zayren propels vessels and groups by collapsing gravity. Thalena uses aether and gravity for rapid flight across Thalassai. Pyrenis ships use gravity lifts.

Aether magic develops through aptitude, training, essence control, and the mage level system. Young mages begin with small-object lifting. Advanced users fly, fight with wide gravity fields, maintain aether shields, and cast singularities. Zayren is a level-nine aether mage.

Spells

Gravity Wave

Gravity Wave is an aether technique that releases broad crushing force across an area. It slams targets downward, pins bodies, cracks stone, shatters shields, distorts air and space, interrupts attacks, and counters other force waves.

Thalena uses gravity waves in training, combat, and the War of Scars. Jin Leiyun combines gravity waves with lightning, wind, and resonance shockwaves. Zayren, Zain, Maia, and Thalion also use gravity waves in combat.

Singularity

A singularity is an aether spell that collapses gravity into a black-hole-like force. Black hole spells consume matter, air, light, weapons, shields, spells, explosions, essence, and living bodies. Release, destabilization, overload, or interruption can turn the spell into a detonation. Extreme gravity collapse can open rifts through the void.

Zayren and Thalena use black hole spells. At Morindel, Zayren traps Eremion in a singularity while Kallion brings down a sun-like attack. The black hole consumes rubble, structures, air, light, magic, Eremion's weapons, and part of the falling sun before it erupts. The blast destroys ancient Morindel, creates the Morindel Sea, and leaves Eremion reduced to his surviving heart. Morindel's later market-square fountain produces faintly salty water from a narrow hidden point. Thalena uses a singularity against Pyrathalor near Chronasis.

Ozaith is the singularity god. His aether power collapses gravity at a single point until the veil between worlds breaks. Ozaith used this power to leave his original world through the tear that became the source beneath Zarephon. Ozaith also breaks Thalion and Abraxas out of the void after their displacement. Through Ozaith's pact, Thalion gains aether magic, gravity manipulation, and cosmic magic.

History & Origins

Xolterra is the origin of aether and resonance magic. Thalcoris has a strong blend of resonance and aether magic, and Zayren comes from that region. Thalcoris, Thalassai, and Ulzathir use aether mages for flight, travel, scouting, combat, and transport.

Runic magic develops in part from Zero and Sylvia in early Skarnheim. Zero's aether magic is why later rune-marked objects can fly, propel themselves, reduce weight, or make heavy objects easier to carry.
