Varnhallow

Overview

Varnhallow is the advanced eastern Valrindor nation sealed inside the Varnhallow temporal anomaly. Within the anomaly, Eltaru-Ninsath rules as god-king through the divine patriarchs. He, Sigvariel, and Horol'Khai maintain the temporal bubble until Varnhallow's army and its hidden staging ground are needed against the surviving guardians.

The anomaly makes Varnhallow both a functioning country and a sealed temporal space, with centuries of internal history separated from the outside world.

Geography

Varnhallow lies in eastern Valrindor around the Navan Sea, near Haverloch, Arcanis Village, Ereshval, and Ulzathir. Routes beyond Varnhallow's border reach Skarnheim and Rimvold.

Inside the anomaly, Varnhallow includes forests, mountains, plains, desert edges, rivers, coastline, and cities including Astralynne, Astralem, Luminaris, Halcyra, and Lysaraine. The border is a blue, iridescent temporal wall stretching across the horizon and upward out of view.

After the collapse, former Varnhallow lands can be crossed again. Snow-covered mountains, pine forests, rivers, and empty wilderness remain where the bubble once stood.

Cities and Technology

Varnhallow's cities use skyships, airships, constructs, essence lights, rail-like transport, factories, fortified gates, civic complexes, and skyship docks. Astralynne is the capital inside the anomaly. Astralem is a cold western industrial city ruled by Benedict as divine patriarch.

The country keeps patriarchs, elite guards, constructs, airship fleets, prepared civilians, and city defenses throughout civic life.

Rule and Society

Inside the anomaly, Michael rules publicly as Eltaru-Ninsath. The divine patriarchs are priests, city rulers, administrators, tournament officials, and elite combat mages. They govern from Astralynne and the Grand Court, where tournaments select or elevate patriarchs.

Varnhallow's public life mixes prosperity with danger. Cities such as Luminaris and Astralynne have markets, civic order, factories, and public spectacle. Daily reality includes tournament deaths, militarized governance, and recurring timerifts. The common patriarch colors are deep royal purple with silver and gold trim.

Crossing Mechanics

Crossing Varnhallow requires a timerift, a deliberate breach in the temporal barrier, Eira's temporal traversal, Deylin's temporal alignment, or the collapse of the anomaly itself.

Rhyzmar is pulled into Varnhallow by a timerift and spends years in Luminaris. The Chronasis timerift later brings Xarion, Aelius, and Thea into Varnhallow and also takes Zayren, Dorian, and Rowenna, who later operate around Astralynne. Svanhild, Kren, Zhang, and Ivan end up in western Varnhallow and operate under cover. Aurelia is already stranded inside the anomaly after traveling south from Myrravel and Ereshval.

Eira, Kaelion, and Jin enter separately through Eira's temporal traversal. They arrive early, meet Michael and Sigvariel, deliver The Legacy of Thalion Zenith, and later train under Michael: Eira and Kaelion govern Halcyra as the Lord of Cosmos and Lady of Fire. Jin goes to Lysaraine and gains the title Mad Mage of Lysaraine. Eira can open the barrier herself. Horol'Khai sends Eira out separately from Kaelion and Jin. Kaelion and Jin later emerge outside east of Varnhallow. Re-entry requires Eira.

Deylin reaches Varnhallow deliberately from outside and can pass into the boundary because of his temporal alignment. To bring others through, he exposes the barrier, has Vianna and Anshar burn a small point with extreme heat, and synchronizes the anomaly as the breach opens. Virel and Felix enter first, followed by Maia and Lysander, then Isaac, and finally Deylin with Vianna and Anshar. The breach separates them into different positions inside Varnhallow.

During the final collapse, Zhang and Anshar destabilize the outer barrier with heat. Deylin synchronizes the crossing. Felix goes first, followed by Lysander, Isaac, Virel, Anshar, Zhang, and Deylin. They emerge near Arcanis Village after Varnhallow has ended. The way out converges on a single destination.

History

Michael creates the Varnhallow anomaly for Barachiel's mission against the remaining guardians. He and Sigvariel gather their strongest followers into the sealed country, where Varnhallow becomes an army, refuge, and hidden staging ground for the Order campaign against Malverand's surviving guardians led through Isandriel and Thalion Zenith.

The anomaly is already deteriorating when outsiders begin investigating it. Timerifts appear across Varnhallow, the borders shift inward, and parts of the country collapse or send constructs through rifts into the outside world. Michael guides people after they enter. External timerifts pull outsiders into Varnhallow.

Varnhallow collapses during the final events at the Grand Court in Astralynne. Eltaru releases the spell holding the bubble together, draining essence from the city and from people caught in its reach. The land tears apart around timerifts and a void-like outer wall. Thalion's fleet leaves through the collapsing outer boundary with survivors from the anomaly. Deylin's extraction group returns near Arcanis Village after the barrier has vanished.

The collapse removes Varnhallow as a functioning country, temporal route, and regional obstruction. Former bubble lands become empty, crossable wilderness. Travel routes and armies can cross land that the bubble once blocked.
