Beams from their offshore constructs caused heavy losses, particularly among the legions, while most civilians survived. The fleet retreated during the battle in which Ozaith’s asteroid descended on Thalassai. Cassian ordered Hadrian to bring spare legions from Aetherion and begin rebuilding Pyrenis, with mages of level seven and below assigned to the work.

Libraries and internal wars
Before Thalena’s reforms, Pyrenis was a small, unwalled city defended by its surrounding volcanoes. It had three major public libraries. Working under the name Helena, Thalena destroyed their records of Malverand, toppled shrines to Ozaith and burned the largest library after purging the other two.
Pyrenis honored its former archon of fire, Ignatius, with a festival in 2375 AX. Ozaith’s remaining followers drew Pyrenis and Terranova into war, which Aetherion ended by enforcing peace.
Thalena instigated Thalassai’s greatest internal war by murdering Chronasis’s leaders and spreading false accusations against the other regions. Pyrenis’s ships destroyed Thalmyris’s ports during the fighting. Thalena’s army eventually defeated the warring factions, and Thalassai began rebuilding.

Ulzathir’s counterattack
After Thalassai’s forces took Solvarria, Zain launched a counterattack on Pyrenis with Zhulkar, Qadir and other aether mages. Gabriel had given Qadir an essence crystal. The fighting collapsed the volcanic ocean wall that sheltered the port and left the port in ruins.
Qadir’s stored essence began to detonate after his battle with Jin. Abraxas tried to consume the blast through voids and died defending Thalassai. The explosion severed volcanic peaks and shattered the coast. Earthquakes, landslides and a tsunami devastated villages across the region and killed tens of thousands.
Pyrenis City survived. Ignaros and Marcellus led rescue efforts, assisted by Ilyra and troops from Solvarria. A vast crater partly filled with seawater replaced part of the volcanic landscape. Mages continued working in the area, and fishermen continued hauling their catches.
