Rhyzmar

Overview

Rhyzmar is the guild master of the Adventurers' Guild in Teryndal, an air mage, and a long-standing ally of Aldar, Xarion / Thalion, and Renneth. He assigns guild quests, recommends adventurers for council work, announces Xalmyrran tournaments with amplified air magic, and handles missions that require speed or discretion. After being pulled into a timerift, he takes the name Rhys and scouts quickly for the Order of Thalion Zenith.

Appearance and Manner

Rhyzmar is an older man with blue eyes, graying and later nearly white hair, and a steel staff. He often hovers or flies on air currents, spins his staff during speech and combat, and responds to danger with relaxed humor. His manner is casual. Aldar, Xarion, and the guild trust him with sensitive missions and warnings.

Abilities

Rhyzmar is a powerful air mage who uses flight, shockwaves, wind shields, air bubbles, and voice amplification. In combat he shatters incoming attacks, catches falling allies, accelerates allied mages' strikes, scouts from the air, and reaches distant allies quickly. His skill makes him useful as a tournament announcer, battlefield scout, and emergency courier.

History

Rhyzmar leads the Adventurers' Guild while Eira, Cassian, Xarion, and Aldar confront Jorhan's cycles and Xalmyrra's darkness. The guild assigns quests, gathers recruits, sends mages to ruins, and pays adventurers for work, and Xarion turns to Rhyzmar when Teryndal needs information, adventurers, or posted quests. Renneth is badly injured in a cave when Rhyzmar names and raises him, and Rhyzmar lets him live at the guild until Renneth becomes a Teryndal citizen.

After timerifts take Rhyzmar during a walk with Aldar, he spends decades displaced from Xalmyrra: first in Luminaris, where he masters the local language and searches for a way home, then with Xarion, Aelius, and Thea as the group moves through Varnhallow, Rimvold, and Skarnheim during the Order's campaign to remove Malverand's surviving guardians. He uses the name Rhys, carries warnings and intelligence for Thalion, scouts Astralynne and enemy armies, fights for Thalion's Order against Uriandel's army, Raphael, and Eremion, and scouts beside Thea under her Titania name.

After Thalion's Order defeats Raphael and Eremion, Rhyzmar stays in Skarnheim with Titania instead of returning with Thalion's group. After Rhyzmar's departure, Durvek becomes the Adventurers' Guild's new guild master.

Relationships

  • Renneth: Rhyzmar saves, names, raises, and gives him a place in the Adventurers' Guild.
  • Xarion / Thalion: Rhyzmar takes Teryndal guild assignments from him and becomes a trusted Order scout.
  • Aldar: Rhyzmar takes on council work for Aldar and is displaced during a walk with him in Irrathis.
  • Thea / Titania: Rhyzmar scouts beside her for Thalion's Order, and both stay in Skarnheim after Thalion's Order defeats Raphael and Eremion.
  • Jin / John and Deylin: Rhyzmar deals with Jin through Adventurers' Guild work and later announces both Draven and Deylin in Xalmyrran tournaments.
