Valrindor Atlas

Velundra is a fortified port city in southern Teryndal, in Xalmyrra, near Lythenmere Lake. The Land of Darkness lies just beyond its southern border.

City and defenses

Velundra has stone walls and defensive towers, a fortified southern gate, and districts of stone and wooden buildings. Its streets divide into separate routes towards the docks. Fishing boats and larger ships use the harbor, while merchants sell essence cores in the city’s market. The city has numerous essence towers.

Nythenfall Apex is a fortified structure west of the city. Its walls border a chasm on one side; Lythenmere Lake lies toward the opposite flank. An essence tower nearby extends partly into the lake.

The advancing darkness threatens the city’s food supply.

Xarion and Maric discovered an abandoned settlement beneath Lythenmere. Its cavern contains a second lake, a gate, and the underground base of Nythenfall Apex.

History

The Land of Darkness advanced towards Velundra, threatening its food supply. Maelis fled to the city after darkness creatures consumed a village; they followed her, and most of Lythenmere Lake was swallowed. Xarion ordered Teryndal’s army mobilized and sent reinforcements to defend Velundra.

Kaelion, Zayren and Ilyra helped defend the city. Zayren forced the darkness back from the southern gate with aether magic, while Ilyra shielded and healed him. Kaelion drove the attacking creatures back with solar magic. Maric held the docks.

During Kaelion’s fight with Jorhan, Jorhan released his hold on Xalmyrra. Much of the darkness receded and the surrounding storms ended. Thalassai sent its first ships to Teryndal after the storms cleared.

Transport

Velundra is connected to Thalmyris and Irrathis by railway. The line from Thalmyris enters a tunnel before reaching Velundra, then continues north towards Irrathis. Beyond the city, ground exposed by the retreating darkness remains blackened beneath a grey and purple haze.
