Character Network Timeline

Tazarin is the emperor of Thalcoris on Xolterra. Formerly King Therion of Soltheris, he was summoned away from Xalmyrra by Xoh’Tenol. He is the father of Aurion and Kaelion, and a former wielder of the sun shard.

Appearance

Tazarin has graying hair and grayish blue eyes. He wears robes in the colors of the sun.

Personality

Tazarin is an authoritative ruler who initially demanded service from foreign visitors. Behind that severity, he had spent years resisting the Tenari's mind control while concealing his opposition from those watching him. He is protective of his family and was willing to help Kaelion find Isrynn and Eira.

Magic

Tazarin wields cosmic magic. He strengthens others with cosmic enchantments.

As Xoh’Tenol's wielder, he conjured suns that nourished crops and strengthened people, and fought with sunfire and sun spears. He taught these powers to Kaelion before transferring the shard to him. His cosmic magic remained his own after the transfer.

History

Soltheris and the Tenari

As Therion, he ruled Soltheris and had Aurion with his first wife. After her death, he formed a relationship with Isrynn, who was pregnant with Kaelion when he disappeared. A celestial beam left no remains, leading Soltheris to believe its king had died. Aurion inherited the throne while still young.

Xoh’Tenol had instead summoned him to Xolterra. As Emperor Tazarin, he ruled the Tenari from Tequaltor. He recognized the songs controlling their minds and protected himself with a mental shield. He tried to break the control, even killing a wielder of the moon shard, but Xoh’Metztli chose another. Unable to free the people and watched closely afterward, he concealed his resistance for fear of a bloodbath.

When Kaelion and his companions arrived, Tazarin required their help in the supposed war against darkness. Xoh’Tenol chose Kaelion as his next wielder, and Tazarin trained him. After Cassian broke the control by killing Meliora, Tazarin revealed his identity and discovered that Kaelion was his son. He transferred the sun shard to Kaelion and directed recovery at Xalatun. He defended Razen and Zayren from Kaelion's anger over their actions under the spell, and promised help in finding Eira and Lythariel.

Relationships

  • Kaelion: His son with Isrynn, his student, and his successor as Xoh’Tenol's wielder. Tazarin supports his search for his mother and his bond with Eira.
  • Aurion and Isrynn: His elder son and his later partner. He hopes to reunite with both of them.
  • Xoh’Tenol: The god who summoned him to Xolterra and entrusted him with the sun shard. Tazarin believes the god intended him to help free the Tenari.
  • Cassian: He ended the control Tazarin had failed to break, earning Tazarin's gratitude and a promise of help from the Tenari.

Recovery and cooperation

Tazarin agreed to lend aether and divine mages to Thalassai through talks with Zephyra and arranged exchanges that would help rebuild Thalcoris and improve its roads. He welcomed Kaelion back to Tequaltor and supported his intention to find Isrynn and Eira. A proposed duel without the sun shard was postponed when renewed darkness drew their attention to Chronasis. Tazarin ordered Razen to gather their best mages at Xalatun so that the Tenari could help.

During the attack by Virel, he fought beside Silas and received healing from Arinella. Silas rescued them when Virel attacked Arinella; Tazarin later took her back toward the city. He and Silas helped shield Chronasis during Lunorax's fatal overload against Nahm.

After the battle, Tazarin accepted Thalena's proposal that Thalcoris join Thalassai while retaining its independent government. He became archon of cosmos and pledged to follow Cassian's leadership. Back in Tequaltor, he proposed renaming his pyramid the Palace of Cosmos and discussed roads, trade and reunions with his family.

He later joined the effort to recover Thalena after her confrontation with Raphael. Traveling with Aldar and Ilyra on Glin through Haverloch, he used cosmic barriers to lift injured mages while Ilyra healed them. He also redirected waves near Valalav. War and family losses

Kaelion brought Tazarin news that Isrynn had died protecting him. Tazarin subsequently visited Aurion in Soltheris, where the family mourned her together. He asked Aurion not to risk himself unnecessarily.

During the invasion of Erenmyr, Tazarin arrived with Thalcoris reinforcements. His starfield barrier protected the army from Gabriel's cold, and he shielded Brynor during the fighting. With Seralyth and Orin, he strengthened the barrier around the explosion Brynor contained beneath the battlefield.

Tazarin later attended Aurion's deathbed and held his dying son. After losing both Isrynn and Aurion, he received Kaelion, Eira and Xoh’Tenol at his pyramid in Thalcoris, where he looked forward to visits from Feryon and Orin.
