Zeydrith

Overview

Zeydrith is the capital of Soltheris and the home of the Luminary Halls. The city houses Soltheris's monarchy, cosmic mages, the Artisan Guild, Soltheris-made airships, orreries, rail travel, and defenses against the Land of Darkness.

Geography and Layout

Zeydrith stands east of Irrathis on road and rail routes through Teryndal and into Soltheris. Airships, trains, windweavers, and roads connect the capital to the rest of Xalmyrra; the train station stands outside the city near the road to the Luminary Halls.

The Luminar River splits the capital into gleaming strands below the Luminary Halls. An eastern bridge crosses the city's crystalline river toward rocky slopes and the Soltheris mountains, where the kingdom later builds tunnels and rail passages toward Thundermarch. During the cataclysm, the river seethes, foams, and spills over its banks. The surrounding land burns and erupts. To the south, Dravemir shields the approaches from the Land of Darkness.

Design

Zeydrith uses dark stone, angular forms, spires, towers, elegant arches, polished tiles, and cosmic-inspired patterns. Constellations inscribed in the main-road tiles glimmer as maps for newcomers. Astral glow and the crystalline spires of the Luminary Halls dominate the skyline.

Under King Thurion, the Atraxi build parks and much of the Luminary Halls. Later Soltheris reconstruction echoes the same style in fortified walls, obsidian-accented structures, and cosmic-inspired repairs.

Society and Government

Zeydrith is the seat of the Soltheris monarchy. Aurion rules from the Luminary Halls during the cataclysm aftermath, the Dravemir threat, and the renewed darkness-creature attacks from the Land of Darkness against Soltheris, with Seralyth, Daryas, Kaelric, Astheron, and Thalvian serving in or around the court. Daryas handles much of the kingdom's practical administration before becoming king, then continues ruling Soltheris from Zeydrith after Aurion abdicates.

Court ceremony takes place in the Luminary Halls. Cosmic mages, engineers, and essence-technology specialists staff the Artisan Guild, the Zeydrith magic school, city defenses, and rebuilding projects. Its people include court officials, mages, soldiers, merchants, artisans, instructors, students, citizens, and travelers moving through markets, plazas, residential districts, and the Luminary Halls. It also has a Zeydrith magic school, where Kaelion studies temporal magic and pursues illusion magic.

Artisan Guild

The Artisan Guild handles Zeydrith's magical engineering and essence technology during Aurion's reign. It operates from a dark-stone building with sleek angles, broad arched doors, and a cavernous workspace filled with engineers, mages, machinery, burnt iron, and machine oil.

Under Aurion's patronage, the guild develops defensive enchantments, experimental essence devices, and the orrery project. Thalvian is its master engineer. Aurion pours scarce Soltherian resources into the guild because he wants a defense method that preserves the kingdom's remaining essence. These experiments are dangerous: Thalvian's amplifier is followed by an uncontrolled essence explosion involving an Artisan Guild engineer, and the orreries become entangled with the cataclysm.

History

In the Malverand Empire's earlier rule, Zeydrith is Xalmyrra's provincial capital. Sariel visits the city during his preparation for oversight of the region. Isandriel searches Zeydrith's streets, markets, residential districts, and high plazas to find him. The city is already vast and prosperous, with locally adapted airships unlike standard Malverand craft.

During the atraxi period, King Thurion uses atraxi knowledge in Zeydrith. The capital keeps atraxi design in its palace district, public spaces, and later cosmic-inspired repairs.

Under Aurion, Zeydrith houses Soltheris's monarchy, Soltheris-made airships, cosmic barriers, the Artisan Guild, and the orrery project during the kingdom's fight against darkness. A deadly essence explosion strikes the plaza near the essence tower, and the cataclysm leaves towers broken, city districts scarred, and mages restoring the streets and buildings.

When Dravemir falls and darkness threatens the south, Soltheris leaders consider evacuating Zeydrith and its surrounding areas because over a million people are at risk. The city survives behind cosmic defenses, layered barriers, and massive stone walls shaped around it by Khoradyn.

After the cataclysm and the renewed darkness-creature attacks from the Land of Darkness against Soltheris, Zeydrith is restored and continues as Soltheris's capital. Daryas leads rebuilding, diplomacy, and practical governance from the Luminary Halls. Airship and train routes link the city with Irrathis, Dravemir, and Thundermarch.
