Overview
Sun magic is a radiant heat-and-light school practiced by Xoh'Tenol's shard wielders, especially Kaelion. Tazarin teaches Kaelion to shape small suns, bless fields, and form sun spears during the period when he carries Xoh'Tenol's shard in Thalcoris. After Xoh'Tenol chooses Kaelion, Kaelion uses the school as his main combat power beside temporal magic.
Forms and Uses
Sun spells produce golden light, sunfire, solar essence, miniature suns, sun spears, solar flares, solar barriers, and beams or waves of solar energy. Kaelion uses the school for direct attacks, defensive shields, heat, illumination, cooking, map projection, and limited wound repair.
The magic has civic and restorative uses as well as combat uses. Tazarin and Xoh'Tenol use miniature suns to nurture crops, and Kaelion uses sun-forged heat for campfires, food, and warmth. In combat or recovery, sun essence can seal or stabilize wounds in Kaelion's hands. Divine healing uses divine magic.
Sun magic overlaps visually with fire magic. It is its own school. In Pyrenis, Kaelion practices heat control, barriers, and solar attacks through fire-aligned sparring, military drills, and palace training.
Spells
Sun Spear
Sun spear is a combat spell that creates held or thrown weapons from sun or solar essence. Kaelion forms sun spears in his hands, between his hands, and through projected duplicates, then hurls them as burning, piercing, or explosive attacks.
Kaelion combines sun spears with blinking, attacking from sudden angles or layering temporal force into the strike; temporal sun spears fuse the spell with temporal magic. Tazarin also uses the spell during Kaelion's lessons, and Zayren compresses Tazarin's spear with aether magic to produce a controlled explosion.
Strong defenses can block, redirect, or blunt sun spears, including ice walls, divine shields, rock barriers, air barriers, golden shields, and liquid-glass defenses. Repeated use drains essence and can burn through essence cores. Kaelion's strongest versions draw on Xoh'Tenol, the sun shard, and his own technique.
Training and Development
Kaelion's first sun-magic training comes through Tazarin's Thalcoris instruction and Xoh'Tenol's choice. He begins with small suns, sun spears, radiant heat, and solar essence, then develops the school through duels, travel, and combat.
Ignaros then takes Kaelion to Pyrenis, where Kaelion practices heat control, barriers, and solar techniques under Hadrian and other fire-aligned instructors.
In Ereshval, sun magic is entirely new to local mages. During the Varnhallow displacement, Kaelion uses it as Kallion, Hand of the Star, and continues to combine it with temporal power. Later, he uses solar flares, solar barriers, massive sun spears, solar healing, and Xoh'Tenol-backed attacks. After the Varnhallow return, he continues using solar barriers and solar essence.
Boundaries
Sun magic is a teachable magic school. The sun shard and Xoh'Tenol give Kaelion his shard-wielder bond. Kaelion casts sun spells through his own technique and essence. The sun shard carries Xoh'Tenol's power and lets the god act through Kaelion. Xoh'Tenol acts directly when he descends, uses the bond, or Kaelion draws on Xoh'Tenol's power.
The school can combine with temporal magic and later cosmic magic. Its limited healing-like effects use sun essence; medical spellwork, life magic, and divine healing use other methods.
