Overview
Xoh’Tenol is the sun god of Thalcoris, the deity of the sun shard, and the divine power behind Kaelion's sun magic. Tenari religion pairs him with Xoh’Metztli, the moon goddess, and reveres him across Thalcoris, especially through Tequaltor and the imperial succession around Tazarin.
After Thalena frees him from Xoh’Metztli's control, Xoh’Tenol accepts Thalena and Hrzai's plan to strengthen Kaelion against Xol'Zahir and descends when Kaelion breaks Jorhan's gate. After the Varnhallow return, Kaelion's reattached shard-bearing hand sends Xoh’Tenol back to the God Realm; he and Ozaith then use the gods' renewed network while searching for Tal'Massar and Nahm. In the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, Kaelion's contact with a Meridian obelisk leaves Xoh’Tenol faint and unresponsive. The sun sigil remains visible.
Appearance
In full descent, Xoh’Tenol is a colossal humanoid of molten gold and sunlight. His skin burns with deep golden heat, his garments look like rays of light, and warmth spreads through the area around him. He carries a solar hammer and can take the form of a miniature molten-gold figure with eyes bright with solar fire and a smaller flaming hammer. These forms dissolve into light or essence when he withdraws.
Sun Shard
Xoh’Tenol's shard is a radiant sun mark, sun sigil, or embedded golden mark in the wielder's palm. Tazarin carries it before Xoh’Tenol chooses Kaelion; when the shard passes to Kaelion, a small radiant sun circles him and enters his hand.
Personality
Xoh’Tenol is booming, theatrical, proud, and openly amused by mortal audacity. He calls Kaelion his chosen one and Lord of the Sun, teases him as "human," and presses him toward courage when fear or grief slows him. He also withholds information, speaks cryptically, and follows long divine strategies, especially around Kaelion's training, Thalena's plan, and the fight with Jorhan.
Abilities
Xoh’Tenol uses divine essence, belief, and the sun shard. He chooses and empowers mortal wielders, speaks through the shard bond, projects his voice to nearby people, descends as a full divine form, and communicates with allied gods across vast distances once his network recovers.
His sun power includes radiant heat, miniature suns, solar barriers, sunlit shields, solar essence, and a massive hammer. In divine combat he redirects black beams, splits ground into molten veins, turns night into daylight, releases radiant waves, and conjures a sun large enough to challenge Jorhan's ice. His power also enters baking and farming in Valrindor: he descends in Viregrad, joins the baking, and creates miniature suns that nurture crops and accelerate their growth, earning public devotion and statues.
Xoh’Tenol's power has limits. Full descents can leave him diminished, shattered back into essence, quiet, or in need of rest. Followers and accumulated essence extend how long gods can remain active.
History
In Tenari tradition, Xoh’Tenol and Xoh’Metztli answered Thalcoris's ancestors when darkness covered the land, chose wielders, and fought the darkness. Their sun and moon shards pass through chosen wielders; Tazarin rules Thalcoris with the sun shard, Kaelion becomes its future emperor in Tenari eyes, and Xoh’Metztli's moon wielders control the Tenari through priestess songs.
In earliest Thalcoris history, Xoh’Tenol and Xoh’Metztli meet Therion (Founder) and Xandor in Tequaltor after previous-cycle refugees escape Xalmyrra. Therion (Founder) became Xoh’Tenol's first sun-shard wielder. In the current cycle, Xoh’Tenol summons King Therion of Soltheris to Thalcoris, where he becomes Tazarin and tries to free the Tenari from Xoh’Metztli's control. After Cassian breaks that control, Xoh’Tenol regains strength as the hollowed Tenari recover.
Xoh’Tenol chooses Kaelion unusually quickly after the outsiders reach Thalcoris. The choice gives Kaelion divine sun power and makes him Thalcoris's future emperor in Tenari eyes. Xoh’Tenol then directs Kaelion through training in Thalassai, shares news through the gods' network, and accepts Thalena's plan to make Kaelion strong enough to break Jorhan's hold on Xalmyrra.
When Kaelion and Aurion confront Jorhan / Xol'Zahir in Xalmyrra, Xoh’Tenol descends in full form, shields them, battles Jorhan directly, and collapses back into Kaelion's palm after a massive clash. He survives by resting in the shard and remains Kaelion's companion afterward.
In the Varnhallow-displaced past, Kaelion lives as Kallion and channels more of Xoh’Tenol's power. Xoh’Tenol lives inside Kaelion through the shard-bearing hand, and Kaelion protects it until Eira prepares the return to the present. The hand containing Xoh’Tenol is removed and preserved in a glass case with the hands containing Tianlei and Hrzai until the present can be restored.
After the return, Xoh’Tenol resumes activity, uses the gods' recovered network, searches with Ozaith for missing gods such as Nahm and Tal'Massar, guides Kaelion, and takes a miniature molten-gold form. He remains communicative after the breach into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire until Kaelion touches a Meridian obelisk and Xoh’Tenol falls silent.
