Overview
Lunorax is an ancient chronarc of Chronasis, a former archon of air, and a close friend and student of Thalena. For centuries, he works as her second-in-command in Stella Aeterna, handling administration, agriculture, exports, security assignments, and sensitive travel arrangements. He is formal, dryly humorous, intensely loyal to Thalena, and uncomfortable enough in casual settings that Zephyra often teases him for it.
Origin and Copy Nature
A written message left on the floor of Stella Aeterna gives Thalena Lunorax's name. Years afterward, a child named Lunorax arrives inside the Nexus Research Center with no memory of where he came from. Thalena and Lunorax keep the incident secret and create a cover story in which she recruited him from his parents' home.
In the void, Horol’Khai ejected Lunorax as a copy, "the youngest and first." Sigurd recalls Horol’Khai's old promise that she would have a gift for Thalena, and Thalena accepts Lunorax as that gift. Lunorax accepts the explanation as the answer to his impossible arrival and his unusually natural movement through the void.
Chronasis Service
Thalena makes Lunorax a chronarc in his twenties, and he becomes a senior official in Chronasis. He studies temporal magic and the mechanics of her anti-aging spellwork under Thalena, and grows into a formidable Thalassai mage. After the older archons of air and water retire, Lunorax becomes archon of air and takes Marcellus, who shares his air and temporal affinity, as a gifted student.
Lunorax later resigns as archon so he can remain close to Thalena as her chronarc. He serves in the same Chronasis governing circle as Nethira, Astryx, Aelius, Zephyra, and Cassian, supervises Cassian on Thalena's orders, organizes essence-core distribution, oversees Chronasis agriculture and exports, and escorts Kaelion toward Thalcoris by arranging transport through Thalmyris and Xolterra.
Abilities
Lunorax is a master temporal mage with additional talent in air magic. His magic includes high-speed blinks, timerifts, temporal collapse effects, and a rare technique that locks temporal copies away in time so he can call on them for essence or spells. His anti-aging training leaves him looking nearly unchanged across long spans of Thalassai history.
During the Thalassai invasion, Thalena assigns Lunorax to stop Nahm if the god descends near Chronasis. Lunorax overloads his stored essence and combines temporal and air magic fast enough to evade Nahm's vector control, halt or collapse incoming attacks, cut apart a massive meteor, and damage Nahm. Lunorax's temporal magic has the potential to surpass most gods, but his limits prevent him from reaching that level.
Void Survival
Lunorax's apparent death against Nahm is part of Thalena's hidden plan. Before Lunorax fights Nahm near Chronasis, Thalena directs him to blink into the Chronasis gate before he fully breaks apart. He survives inside the void in a fragmented state, unable to exit safely, and slowly stabilizes himself by drawing on his stored temporal copies.
While trapped, Lunorax protects travelers moving between gates, warns that gate travel has become unsafe, and guides Thalena, Deylin, Sigurd, Silas, and Horol’Khai through the gate network. He uses Horol’Khai's power to cast repeated timerifts from inside the void so the correct people reach Varnhallow. Afterward, he remains with Thalena, Deylin, Sigurd, Silas, and Horol’Khai near the Chronasis gate for years, keeping watch for the hostile entity in the void.
When safe exit becomes impossible for the Chronasis-gate survivors, Thalena creates an essence-made copy and sends it out through another breach to arrange rescue. Amos later recovers their capsule-bound essence traces in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, leaving Lunorax preserved there while allies seek a way to restore them.
