Overview
Ilyra Caedris, titled Lightbearer of Hope, is a level nine divine mage from Erenmyr and a legendary healer across Xalmyrra. She is the wife of Deylin and the mother of Eira. After Deylin reaches Thalassai, Cassian appoints both of them as chronarcs of Chronasis, gives them permanent residence in Stella Aeterna, and assigns Ilyra to train and organize healers.
Ilyra follows Xelthys's cycle plan with Deylin. She carries overlapping memories from the cycle that produces Eira and from earlier lives arranged by Hrzai's plan. She acts on the golden mage's guidance because Eira is the person Hrzai's plan needs to break the cycles.
Appearance and Temperament
Ilyra has platinum-blond hair, sometimes worn in a braid, and silver-blue eyes. She uses golden divine light for healing, shields, and enchantments.
Ilyra is compassionate, perceptive, protective, and willing to confront authority. She challenges kings, council leaders, and powerful mages when Eira is in danger, and she keeps healing through battlefield injuries and magical emergencies.
Magic
Ilyra is famed for healing grievous wounds and restoring lost limbs. She heals Eira at Lythenmere Lake, repairs Eira's broken arm during the Xalmyrran tournament, creates a new hand for Eira after Eira severs the hand carrying the spiral shard, and reconstructs Anshar's legs after the timerift attack in Stella Aeterna.
Her divine magic also reinforces shields, rapid-travel enchantments, and battlefield triage. She reinforces colosseum barriers with Cassian, raises shields during gate work, saves Haverloch mages after the fighting near Varnhallow, and heals Pyrenis survivors after the Attack on Pyrenis.
Ilyra's healing has limits. She cannot heal Lirien's mind alone, though she later stabilizes Lirien's essence with Aurion's orreries. When darkness reaches Velundra, she also cannot heal Maelis's fatal essence overload.
History
Ilyra comes from Deylin's Village, the small Erenmyr settlement where she and Deylin are living when shadows attack them. Orin comes from the same village, taught Ilyra when she was young, and knows Deylin well; Lythariel also comes from Eira's village. By the time Eira begins drawing Xalmyrra's attention, Ilyra is already famous across the realm for divine healing.
When Eira collapses at Lythenmere Lake, Ilyra arrives at the shore, introduces herself to Lirien, heals Eira, and warns about the struggle between Eira and the darkness. She enchants herself, Lirien, and Eira for rapid travel back to Velundra, then continues working across the front lines.
Ilyra and Deylin marry across more than one cycle. In the cycle where Eira is born, Hrzai's plan forces them to let the old mage take their infant daughter so Eira can be placed on the path that leads to the Temple of no Return. Ilyra later understands enough of the plan to know that Eira is meant to break the cycles.
When shadows attack Deylin and Ilyra's village, Deylin uses the artifact from the Aethrendar Sea to send Ilyra away. The golden mage guides her through the void, and she becomes trapped for weeks in the hidden ruins beneath Lythenmere Lake until Xarion and Maric reach her during their investigation of the ruins and the gate below the lake.
After her rescue, Ilyra joins Aldar's circle's search work with dual memories, knowledge of Deylin's Earth origin, and knowledge of the cycle plan. She joins searches for Eira and Deylin, investigates gates with Aldar's circle, stabilizes Lirien's essence with Aurion's orreries, and joins the response when darkness overruns villages near Velundra.
In Chronasis, Ilyra becomes a chronarc and healer organizer under Cassian. She remains in Stella Aeterna for Cassian's resonance-stone mobilizations while Deylin is repeatedly pulled into gate, void, and Varnhallow-related events. Later, she heals wounded Haverloch mages after the fighting near Varnhallow and Pyrenis survivors after the attack on Pyrenis.
