Thalena assigned Zayren to work with Cyrena in Chronasis. During the feast in Stella Aeterna, timerifts opened. He was taken with Dorian and Rowenna to the anomaly enclosing Varnhallow. He protected Cassian’s parents for three Springs before Vianna and Isaac found him. He made a flying vessel from metal and furniture to carry them to Astralynne.
During the tournament in Astralynne, he joined Thalion after recognizing him as Xarion. When Virel turned Vianna’s plasma attack back on her, Zayren pulled it away and caught her. He then rescued Dorian and Rowenna while Aelius took Vianna to safety. They escaped aboard Thalion’s fleet as Eltaru-Ninsath broke the anomaly. The ships emerged near Rimvold in Skarnheim in 2085 AX.

His close friendship with Mia became a romance. During the struggle to capture the guardians in Jazarel, Helena saved Zero from Thamrielle’s lava, triggering another reversal through the Abyss. Zero remembered the repeated battle. In the final course, Mia held Helena back while Thamrielle’s lava killed her. Zero threw Helena toward Jarin and the skyship. Helena, Zero and Thalion survived, so the battle did not reset. Afterward, Zero refused to blame Helena for Mia’s choice to protect her.

The god core and his family
Thalion later gave him a second generation god core, greatly strengthening his aether magic. At Morindel, Zero worked with Kallion against Eremion. While Kallion distracted the guardian, Zero formed a singularity around him. Kallion formed a sun with solar and cosmic magic, and Zero carried him away as Eremion was drawn into the singularity. The combined attack destroyed Morindel before the black hole exploded.
Sylvia became his lover and was expecting his child by the time he reached Stormbrook. He waited there with Kallion for five years, following Thalion’s instructions to stay away from the Plains. During those years he taught aether magic and traveled in the region. Sylvia and Zero had a daughter, and he said goodbye to them in Rimvold when Thalion prepared to return to his own time.
Beneath Maraveth, Eira prepared temporal stasis using artifacts from the Malverand vault. Gren severed Zero’s hand containing the god core so Eira could use its power to sustain the machinery. She healed his hand, and he reluctantly entered stasis. He remained suspended for three millennia while Eira arranged their return.

Valrindor
After awakening in 5369 AX, Zayren reunited with Xarion and reaffirmed his loyalty to him. Without the god core, he was initially too weak to fly and had to recover his ordinary magic. He went to Morozkaya, practiced with Vianna and brought news of her support to Thalassai. He also carried messages supporting the proposed Valrindor Council.
He fought with Haverloch’s coalition against Zain at Rimvold. Zayren used gravity to press him down while Remus countered his movement and Lythariel attacked. Once Zain was exhausted, Khauren possessed him and pierced Zayren’s lung. Zayren stabilized his wounded lung and bleeding with aether magic. He carried Lythariel’s darkness barrier away from the fight, preventing blood from escaping Remus’s pierced heart until Lythariel could treat him.
Near Cyndarel, he fought Ravira, Severin and Kjeldan with Lythariel and Remus. Remus redirected Zayren toward Ravira but died when Kjeldan’s bomb detonated beside him. With Lythariel shielding him, Zayren formed a black hole that consumed Kjeldan. He released it and escaped carrying Lythariel as the explosion tore through the battlefield.
At Ishtanûr, Zayren formed a black hole during the assault on Zain. Zain pulled fighters from both armies into it, forcing Zayren to release the spell and destroying part of the city. Zayren then carried Cassian after Zain. Cassian healed him before they resumed the pursuit. Alistair, disguised as Aldar, fought Khauren after he possessed Zain. Cassian then erased Zain’s body, unmaking the god.
During the subsequent battle with Gabriel, Zayren carried the group through the hurricane. He kept his broken wrist together with aether magic and helped propel Cassian to Gabriel’s severed hand, allowing Cassian to unmake the god.
He initially avoided returning to Chronasis because he had promised himself to Zephyra before leaving, but had since fathered a child and grown much older. When they met again, Zephyra embraced him and welcomed him back. Their affection remained mutual.
After the fighting, Zayren helped furnish the Valrindor Council’s headquarters in Melandor and painted a detailed map of Valrindor inside.
