Valrindor Atlas Character Network Timeline

Vianna is a fire and ice mage from Brighthaven who became close to Kren. She also uses earth, water, and air magic.

She met Garrik's army during the shaper attack on Hengvaris. After being rescued, she tried to kill herself; the mages healed her, and she followed their army. Her brother Julian later took her away, promising to return to Brighthaven.

Vianna has since visited Kaldaryn again and claimed to be living peacefully in Brighthaven. Garrik does not believe her account, but he does not know where she is now. Kren still hopes to find her after the war.

Vianna Kairo is the new leader of Morozkaya and the former wielder of Pyrathalor. Born in Brighthaven, she escaped its civil war, lost her parents to shapers, and joined the army that founded Kaldaryn. Her brother's betrayal brought her to Pyrathalor, whose followers welcomed her into Kyranthos. After the deaths of the god and Morozkaya's two diarchs, its council asked her to lead.

Appearance

Vianna has orange and white hair and mismatched eyes. Other children singled her out for her appearance, and she dyed her hair while growing up in Radiance Prime.

Personality

Vianna wanted a quiet life studying magical theory, but her abilities repeatedly drew attention. Her parents' deaths left her struggling to live until Khoradyn and his companions gave her a reason to continue. Julian's betrayal and the persecution in Brighthaven turned her toward revenge. Pyrathalor offered comfort as well as power, and she felt able to share the anger and loneliness she concealed from Garrik. The welcome she received in Morozkaya made her determined to help its people after its leaders died.

Magic

Vianna uses fire, ice, earth, water, air, and plasma magic. Isaac forced her fire and ice awakenings during childhood training. Kyrana and Ivan later taught her earth magic, and Liana helped her learn water magic. Virel taught her plasma before the invasion of Thalassai.

Pyrathalor's pact strengthened her fire and ice. The glaive given to her by the Morozkayan council could channel both, with the god guiding its creation. His capture weakened their connection, and his destruction ended it. She retains her own elemental abilities.

History

Brighthaven and Kaldaryn

Vianna grew up in Radiance Prime with her parents, Marcus and Vivian, and her older brother, Julian. Other children singled her out for her appearance. She hoped to work quietly with magical theory, but her exceptional progress at the Radiance Prime Magic School brought her into Isaac's special classes. His training repeatedly injured and healed her until her fire and ice awakened. At sixteen, she reached level five and won a tournament, drawing the attention she had tried to avoid.

Alistair Voss believed her combination of fire and ice marked her as Pyrathalor's reincarnation. Isaac helped her family escape Brighthaven during the civil war, shielding their departure while he remained to oppose Alistair. The family settled in Hengzhou. Two years later, shapers attacked Hengvaris and killed her parents. Believing Julian dead as well, Vianna attempted to kill herself after being rescued by Khoradyn, Garrik, Kren, and Zhang. They healed her, and Khoradyn urged her to live for her parents.

She stayed with their army and helped establish Kaldaryn, where she built a home. Khoradyn became a mentor, while Kren and Zhang helped train her. She accompanied their campaigns and later spent time in Skarnheim with Kren. Their friendship became romantic. When Julian unexpectedly returned, he claimed that Brighthaven's civil war had ended and persuaded her to go home with him. She left Kren behind, trusting her brother's promise that the journey was safe.

Pyrathalor and Morozkaya

Julian's ship instead carried men prepared to chain her. He pursued her when she tried to escape across the ice. Pyrathalor descended and defeated the crew, leaving Julian unable to flee. Julian claimed that Alistair had ordered the abduction and blamed her for the loss of the life he had enjoyed before the family fled. Vianna killed him.

Vianna accepted Pyrathalor's pact and went to Kyranthos. The god was both a source of power and a companion who comforted her. Kazimir and Kyrana trained her, while Ivan and Liana helped her learn earth and water magic. The council gave her a glaive designed to channel fire and ice, with Pyrathalor guiding its creation. Their welcome made Morozkaya her new home.

When Isaac returned, Vianna joined him and Pyrathalor in an attack on Brighthaven. She struck Alistair down at the Spire of Triumvirate and believed she had killed him, while Isaac took control of the country. On a subsequent visit to Kaldaryn, she told Garrik she was living peacefully in Brighthaven with Julian. She concealed the betrayal, her brother's death, and her new life even though Garrik had always welcomed her.

Pyrathalor's capture in Thalassai broke that security. Vianna joined Virel, learned plasma magic from him, and helped seek cooperation from Haverloch and Morozkaya for an invasion. At Chronasis, she fought Thalena alongside Kazimir and Kyrana. Both diarchs died in Thalena's black hole; Isaac intervened before it could kill Vianna as well.

During the final battle, Vianna recognized Pyrathalor's power in Cassian. Cassian used the god's core against Ozaith, after which Thalena exhausted and shattered it to destroy the asteroid threatening the island. Pyrathalor was gone, and Vianna's shard disappeared. Back in Kyranthos, Ivan and Liana asked her to take the place of the fallen leaders. With the council's support, she began repairing the city, training mages, and seeking relations with its neighbors. Virel and Maia helped her through the loss.

With Virel and Maia beside her, she awaited delegates from Kaldaryn and Skarnheim, including Garrik and Kren.

Relationships

  • Kren: He trained with Vianna after the shaper attack and became her lover. She trusted Julian's promise of a safe return to Brighthaven and left Kren behind. She still wants to see him again.
  • Family: Marcus and Vivian fled Brighthaven to protect her. Their deaths drove her desire for revenge against the shapers. Julian's return seemed to restore her family until he tried to abduct her, ending with Vianna killing him.
  • Isaac: His training forced her fire and ice awakenings. He also protected her family, opposed Alistair, and joined her return to Brighthaven. During the battle at Chronasis, he saved her from Thalena's black hole.
  • Pyrathalor: He saved her from Julian and offered her companionship as well as a pact. She trusted him with the grief and anger she concealed from other people. His capture drew her into the Thalassai invasion, and his destruction ended their connection.
  • Morozkaya's council: Kazimir and Kyrana trained her and helped make Kyranthos her home. After their deaths, Ivan and Liana asked her to lead the country. Their practical support helped her begin rebuilding.
  • Virel and Maia: Virel taught her plasma magic and helped arrange the invasion. He and Maia supported her after the loss of Pyrathalor and the diarchs, remaining in Kyranthos as her friends.
  • Khoradyn, Garrik, and Zhang: Their army rescued her, helped her establish a home in Kaldaryn, and trained her. Khoradyn urged her to survive for her parents. She later lied to Garrik about living peacefully with Julian in Brighthaven.

Vianna Kairo is a diarch of Morozkaya and a former wielder of Pyrathalor. Born in Brighthaven, she found a new home in Kyranthos after her brother betrayed her. Searching for friends taken by a temporal rift led her into the ancient past, where she used the name Viviana and helped awaken Pyrathalor himself. She is traveling with Kren and Ozaith's army in the Plains of Eternity.

Appearance

Vianna has orange and white hair and mismatched eyes. She dyed her hair as a child to avoid the attention its divided colors attracted. While concealing her identity in the ancient past, she dyed it white and used the name Viviana. Her arms and legs bore scars from the burns suffered during the Thalassai invasion.

Personality

Vianna once wanted a quiet life, preferring magical theory and ordinary work to the attention her abilities brought. Losing her parents, being betrayed by Julian, and losing Pyrathalor made revenge central to her decisions. She can turn violently on people she believes have abandoned or deceived her, as she did when Virel left Varnhallow.

Her loyalties can change when she understands what happened. Dorian and Rowenna's kindness weakened her desire to punish Cassian, and she forgave Virel after recognizing why he had left her in the past. She remains attached to Morozkaya and the people who gave her a home there.

Magic

Vianna uses fire, ice, earth, water, air, and plasma magic. Isaac forced her fire and ice awakenings during childhood training. Kyrana and Ivan later taught her earth magic, while Liana helped her learn water magic in Morozkaya. Virel taught her plasma before the invasion of Thalassai, drawing on his understanding of its theory even though his own fire magic was weaker than hers.

Her pact with Pyrathalor strengthened her fire and ice and allowed her to channel his power through the council's gift of a glaive. His capture and destruction ended that connection without taking away her own magic. In the ancient past, she gave her glaive to the obsidian being and guided his awakening while holding the core.

She combines fire and ice in combat, uses plasma against stronger opponents, and employs air magic for movement.

Isaac later questioned whether Alistair had sent Julian at all, suggesting her brother might have arranged the scheme himself.

At Chronasis, she fought Thalena alongside Kazimir and Kyrana. Both diarchs died in Thalena's black hole; Isaac intervened before it could kill Vianna as well.

Back in Kyranthos, Ivan and Liana asked her to take the place of the fallen leaders. With the council's support, she began repairing the city, training mages, and seeking relations with its neighbors. Virel and Maia helped her through the loss.

Varnhallow and the Order

Vianna supported Radomir's appointment as the other diarch. Her reunion with Kren and Zhang was soon interrupted when a temporal rift took them, Ivan, and Svanhild away. She left with Virel and Maia to investigate Varnhallow. Along the way, a report that Alistair Koss ruled in Ulzathir unsettled her belief that she had killed Alistair Voss. At Arcanis Village, Isaac revealed that Hrzai had delivered a bargain requiring him to find and protect Vianna. She feared that her life had been shaped by plans involving Isaac, Alistair, and Thalena.

The expedition entered the anomaly, but its members were separated. Vianna reached Varnhallow with Isaac and met Dorian and Rowenna, Cassian's adoptive parents. She initially wanted to punish Cassian through them for Pyrathalor's loss. Their kindness gradually changed her feelings, and she taught them rudimentary fire and ice magic. She also became close to Aurelia, another woman trying to escape the village. An arena encounter with Zhang finally reunited Vianna with Kren and the other missing travelers.

When Virel departed with Isaac and Zhang, she treated his departure as another betrayal and attacked his ship. He reflected her plasma back at her, and she survived with help from the others. The remaining travelers escaped after Eltaru overloaded and reached ancient Astralem, where Thalion renamed the city Rimvold and declared Skarnheim independent. Vianna served in his Order and helped fight the forces of Malverand.

Under the name Viviana, she joined a staged attack on Jazarel intended to support the Order's claims about a Dark Lord. She killed civilians as well as defenders. Jeremiah overwhelmed her, but Kren caught her when she fell. She threatened further destruction of the city until Jeremiah allowed them to withdraw. Later, as Dorian and Rowenna chose to remain in ancient Kyranthos, Vianna promised to pass their love to Cassian. She came to understand that Isaac and Virel's departures had helped preserve the history leading to her own life and forgave Virel.

Awakening Pyrathalor and Naming Helena

Aurelia secretly drained her sleeping companions to maintain a copied spell. When Isandriel exposed her, Vianna and Kren restrained her until she explained her actions. Vianna agreed to forgive her and help find Ozaith, on the condition that Aurelia stop lying to them.

At Radiance Prime, Isandriel showed them an obsidian being built around a god core that he could not awaken. Vianna gave it her council-forged glaive, which was reshaped into a much larger weapon. Holding the core, she asked the being to place its palm over hers and channel its essence into it. The eruption destroyed Radiance Prime and awakened Pyrathalor. Vianna realized that she had helped create the god whose supposed reincarnation had caused her persecution. She brought him to Dorian and Rowenna in Kyranthos, leaving him to live among and help the villagers.

She accompanied Aurelia to Ishtanûr, where Ozaith accepted Aurelia as his wielder while Nadun remained the current wielder. Aurelia's baby still lacked a name. Vianna suggested Helena; Aurelia accepted it, and Ozaith supplied the surname Hyperion. This was the human child who would become Thalena.

Leaving Aurelia and Helena with Nadun, Vianna and Kren joined Ozaith's expedition toward the Plains of Eternity. The unfamiliar essence initially made Vianna's magic unstable. After a year adapting, she helped the other travelers adjust before the army continued deeper into the plains.

Relationships

  • Kren: Kren trained with Vianna and became her lover before Julian took her away. Reunited in Varnhallow, they remained together through the escape, their service in the Order, and the journey into the Plains of Eternity. He saved her from Jeremiah during the Jazarel attack.
  • Family: Marcus and Vivian fled Brighthaven to protect her, and their deaths drove her desire for revenge. Julian's return restored her hope of family before his abduction scheme ended with her killing him.
  • Isaac / Isandriel: Her teacher injured her during training but protected her family and helped her oppose Alistair. His bargain to find and protect her left her questioning how much of her life he had arranged. In the past, they worked together to awaken Pyrathalor.
  • Pyrathalor: He saved her from Julian, chose her as his wielder, and comforted her. His capture drove her against Thalassai. In the ancient past, she gave her glaive to the obsidian being and helped awaken him, learning that their shared fire and ice did not make her his reincarnation.
  • Morozkaya's council: Kazimir and Kyrana trained and welcomed her. Ivan and Liana supported her succession after their deaths. Radomir became her fellow diarch, and she left him and Liana to care for the country while searching for the missing travelers.
  • Virel and Maia: Both helped her after Pyrathalor's death and joined the Varnhallow investigation. Virel taught her plasma magic. She attacked him when he left the village, then forgave him after understanding why he had gone.
  • Khoradyn, Garrik, and Zhang: Their army saved her after the shaper attack and gave her a place to live and train. Khoradyn's care made him a fatherlike figure. She concealed her new life from Garrik but remained attached to them.
  • Dorian, Rowenna, and Cassian: Cassian's adoptive parents undermined her wish to hurt him for Pyrathalor's loss. She taught them magic and promised to carry their love to him when they chose to remain in ancient Kyranthos.
  • Aurelia and Helena: Aurelia became her close friend in Varnhallow. Vianna forgave her for secretly draining their companions on the condition that she stop lying. She suggested Helena as the name for Aurelia's baby, then left mother and daughter with Nadun while joining Ozaith's expedition.

Learning that Thalena had arranged her rescue helped her accept that the Thalassai invasion had been a mistake. After killing Aurelia, she accepted her enjoyment of killing and planned to use it to protect villages after returning to her own time. She remains attached to Morozkaya and the people who gave her a home there.

After giving her glaive to the obsidian being that became Pyrathalor, she spent years refining a fighting style built around two conjured plasma blades. She combines them with ice attacks, barriers, and air-assisted movement. Her fire and air also helped her escape from the Myrravel army with Kren.

Myrravel and Aurelia

At Myriandel, Vianna and Kren found a flourishing Myrravel city, contradicting Aurelia's account of its destruction. They became suspicious of the war Ozaith's followers intended to wage. When Nadun arrived, he reported that Helena had turned seven and was studying in Ulzathir. Vianna and Kren warned him about their suspicions. Vianna then witnessed Sharuzh, Ranan, and Nuvyra turn on Nadun. She tried to intervene, but Kren prevented her from entering a fight they could not survive. Sharuzh subsequently claimed that Abraxas had killed him.

Unable to leave the army safely, Vianna and Kren continued with it until she proposed escaping south across the lake toward Ereshval. Thamrielle rescued them from creatures in the lake and told them that twenty-two years had passed outside their journey. While she continued toward the source, they followed the shore south and were eventually found by a retrieval fleet including Isandriel, Kallion, and Ivan, who was using the name Igor. Kallion told Vianna that Helena had grown up as Thalena and that Thalena and Eira had arranged the rescue. She forgave Thalena, accepting that the invasion in which Pyrathalor had died had been a mistake.

Vianna then helped Isandriel reach Thamrielle's source, cooling the lava in his path and holding back Myrravel's pursuers with Kren and Ivan. During their confrontation with Aurelia, she demanded an explanation for Nadun's death and Aurelia's treatment of Helena. Aurelia dismissed her daughter as one mage among many. Vianna tortured and killed her, then accepted Kren's comfort.

After Isandriel was recovered and the travelers returned to Rimvold, Vianna admitted what she had done. Thalion insisted that she, Kren, and Ivan return to their own era, threatening them if they refused. They left for the Maraveth vault, where Eira placed Vianna and the other returners in temporal stasis.

Relationships

  • Kren: Kren trained with Vianna and became her lover before Julian took her away. Reunited in Varnhallow, they remained together through the escape, their service in the Order, and their escape from Myrravel. He stopped her from entering the hopeless fight to save Nadun, then supported her after she killed Aurelia. They entered stasis to return to their own era.
He later helped retrieve her and Kren from Myrravel.
Ivan, using the name Igor in the past, helped retrieve her from Myrravel and fought beside her against its pursuers.
  • Aurelia and Thalena: Aurelia became her friend in Varnhallow, but her repeated deception ended in Vianna killing her in Myrravel. Vianna named Aurelia's daughter Helena and later learned that the child had become Thalena. Thalena's part in rescuing her helped end her resentment over the Thalassai invasion.

Vianna Kairo is a diarch of Morozkaya, ruling from Kyranthos alongside Radomir. Born in Brighthaven, she became Pyrathalor's wielder after her brother betrayed her and found a home among the god's followers. Her journey into the ancient past later brought her to the creation of Pyrathalor himself. She returned through stasis, resumed her rule, and fought in the war against Raphael.

Appearance

Vianna has orange and white hair and mismatched eyes. As a child, she dyed her hair to avoid the attention its divided colors attracted. She also dyed it white while concealing her identity in the ancient past, when she used the name Viviana. After returning, she lets its natural colors show, with orange and white strands blending through its waves. She cuts it short during the fighting against Zhulkar.

Personality

Vianna once wanted a quiet life, preferring the theory of magic and ordinary work to the attention her abilities brought. Losing her parents, being betrayed by Julian, and losing Pyrathalor made revenge central to her decisions. She can turn violently on people she believes have abandoned or deceived her, as she did when Virel left Varnhallow and when Aurelia's lies about Nadun and Helena came to light.

Her loyalties can also change when she understands what happened. She forgave Virel after recognizing why he had left her in the past, accepted Thalena's part in rescuing her, and regretted blaming Cassian for Pyrathalor's loss. She remains attached to the people who gave her a home in Morozkaya. Returning to Kyranthos, she accepted that she enjoyed killing and chose to use that inclination to protect her country and its allies. She has decided against having children. After the war, she declines a place on the Valrindor Council and prefers to investigate a threat near Jazarel alone, despite Kren offering to accompany her.

Magic

Vianna uses fire, ice, earth, water, air, and plasma magic. Isaac forced her fire and ice awakenings during her childhood training. She later learned earth magic with Kyrana and Ivan and water magic with Liana in Morozkaya. Virel taught her plasma magic before the invasion of Thalassai; his understanding of its theory allowed him to teach it even though his own fire magic was weaker than hers.

Her pact with Pyrathalor strengthened her fire and ice and let her channel his power through the glaive given to her by the Morozkayan council. She lost that connection when he was captured and destroyed. Her own magic remained. After giving her glaive to the obsidian being that became Pyrathalor, she spent years refining a fighting style built around two conjured plasma blades.

She combines those blades with ice projectiles, barriers, and air-assisted movement. At Ishtanûr, she followed ice attacks with blue fire, turning the ice into steam against the city's shields. She also helps Kren maintain protective barriers. Her ability to disperse heat gives her protection against hot attacks, but prolonged heat and powerful cosmic beams remain dangerous. After stasis, she needed practice to regain control of her magic before returning to battle.

Isaac later questioned whether Alistair had sent Julian at all, suggesting her brother might have arranged the scheme himself.

Cassian used the god's core against the reborn Ozaith, after which Thalena exhausted and shattered it to destroy the asteroid threatening the island.

She accompanied Aurelia to Ishtanûr, where the original Ozaith accepted Aurelia as his wielder while Nadun remained the current wielder. Aurelia's baby still lacked a name. Remembering a name she had heard Ozaith speak, Vianna suggested Helena; Aurelia accepted it, and Ozaith supplied the surname Hyperion.

Return and War Against Raphael

Eira ended their stasis in the Malverand vault, and Lysander carried the weakened Vianna and Kren out. She returned to Kyranthos and regained her magic through practice with Kren and Zayren. Radomir was still ruling, with Ivan and Liana helping manage the country. Through Nahm, she arranged for Dorian and Rowenna's final message to reach Cassian.

When war resumed, she sent Morozkayan forces to Garrik and chose to fight with Virel's allies. She joined Kren, Lysander, and Aelius on the Ulzathir front. At Zhurakûn, she and Kren were ordered to neutralize the local leadership, but the leaders had already fled to Ishtanûr. The occupying army left civilians unharmed. She continued toward Ishtanûr and fought Zhulkar with Kren and Aelius. His magic overpowered her until her companions intervened. They later besieged Ishtanûr, but its defenses resisted their attacks and the army eventually withdrew. In the wider battle, Vianna helped defend against Eliona and worked with Kren to maintain shields during the hurricane on Gin.

News of Khoradyn and Zhang's deaths left her grieving with Kren. After the hurricane, she went to check Borovia and Morozkaya. Following the war, Garrik invited her to join the Valrindor Council. She declined and proposed Ivan as Morozkaya's representative. Back in Kyranthos, she spent time with Kren and their friends before setting out alone to investigate a rogue mage reported to be stealing from villages near Jazarel.

Thalena's Later Account

In Thalena's later account in Shores of Eternity, Garrik reports that Vianna and Kren died defending Kyranthos when a volcanic eruption engulfed the city in lava.

Relationships

  • Kren: Kren trained with Vianna and became her lover before Julian took her away. Their reunion in Varnhallow led to a shared journey through the past, Myrravel, and stasis. He restrains her when a fight would be hopeless, supports her after Aurelia's death, and repeatedly protects her in battle. They remain together in Kyranthos, though she also wants time alone.
  • Family: Marcus and Vivian tried to give her a quiet childhood and fled Brighthaven to protect her. Their deaths drove her first desire for revenge. Julian's return briefly restored her hope of family before his abduction scheme ended with her killing him.
  • Isaac / Isandriel: Her teacher injured her during training but also protected her family and helped her oppose Alistair. His secret bargain left her questioning how much of her life he had arranged. In the past, they worked together to awaken Pyrathalor; he later helped retrieve her and Kren from Myrravel.
  • Pyrathalor: He saved her from Julian, chose her as his wielder, and offered companionship as well as power. His capture drove her against Thalassai. In the past, she gave her glaive to the obsidian being and helped awaken him, learning that their shared fire and ice did not make her his reincarnation.
  • Morozkaya's council: Kazimir and Kyrana became her teachers and welcomed her into their home. Ivan and Liana taught her, supported her succession, and helped preserve the country during her absence. Radomir became her fellow diarch. She trusts Ivan to represent Morozkaya on the Valrindor Council.
  • Virel and Maia: Both helped her after Pyrathalor's death. Virel taught her plasma magic and accompanied her search for the missing travelers. She attacked him when he left Varnhallow, then forgave him after understanding why he had gone. Maia helped her confront the uncertainties surrounding Alistair and her own past.
  • Khoradyn, Garrik, and Zhang: Their army saved her after the shaper attack and gave her a place to live and train. Khoradyn's care made him a fatherlike figure. She remained close to Garrik and Zhang, and Khoradyn and Zhang's deaths deeply affected her.
  • Dorian, Rowenna, and Cassian: Kindness from Cassian's adoptive parents undermined her wish to hurt him for Pyrathalor's loss. She taught them magic and carried their farewell message back to the present. After returning, she regretted having blamed Cassian.
  • Aurelia and Thalena: Aurelia became her friend in Varnhallow, but repeated deception ended in Vianna killing her in Myrravel. Vianna named Aurelia's daughter Helena and later learned that the child had become Thalena. Thalena's part in rescuing her helped end the resentment left by the Thalassai invasion.
