Overview
Uriandel is an ancient Malverand guardian, lightning mage, technical collaborator, and ruler of Ashenford. Barachiel brings him into Malverand's ruling circle after Jeremiah's rise as a promising, reserved mage, and Uriandel joins Arcanis and Jeremiah in Malverand's essence-device work.
When the guardians divide the empire into regions, Uriandel and Sigvariel push east. Uriandel takes dominion over Ashenford. Sigvariel takes Varnhallow. After Barachiel and Arcanis vanish and Malverand fractures, Uriandel swears fealty to Abraxas, attacks Sigvariel's lands, and becomes a chief enemy of Jeremiah during the Fall of Malverand.
Character
Uriandel is reserved and rarely speaks in early council meetings. His observations are valuable. He has blue eyes bright like lightning, and his later combat surrounds him with static, storm force, and extreme speed.
After Barachiel disappears and Malverand begins breaking apart, Uriandel grows suspicious of his fellow guardians, and Sephara's warnings about a prophesied destroyer deepen that suspicion. He respects Barachiel, resents the guardian rivalries that follow Barachiel's disappearance, and blames Malverand's collapse on an outside threat.
Magic and Work
Uriandel uses lightning magic for both civic work and combat. In early Maraveth, he creates electrical fields that clear pests and insects and leave humans unharmed, and he develops rapid travel by electric currents, sharing the method with Michael.
He also assists Arcanis and Jeremiah with essence cores, essence towers, Malverand hearts, shards, crystallized devices, essence storage, and attempts to create or enhance magic. After the guardians receive Malverand hearts, the hearts stop Uriandel's aging and impose their power-draining burden on him. He tries to claim a split spiral shard after Sariel and Eremion fail. The shard stays inert in his grasp.
In combat, Uriandel moves like living lightning, raises crackling shields, summons enormous bolts from the sky, sends arcs of lightning through water and air, shatters meteors and stone constructs, and drains essence from the battlefield during guardian-scale combat. His Malverand heart keeps him alive through the Jazarel Battle until Isandriel destroys him with Tal'Massar's unmaking power.
Fall of Malverand
Uriandel's Abraxas-aligned forces destroy much of Astralynne, seize northern Varnhallow territory, and prepare to fight Jeremiah from Crosford. Crosford is the heart of Uriandel's military production, with weaponized skyships, mages, and soldiers in pale white or brown clothing with blue accents.
Sephara stands beside Uriandel as an envoy of the Oracles of Eternity. Uriandel's command accepts the Oracles' destroyer prophecy and Abraxas-aligned protection of Valrindor through knowledge from the Plains of Eternity. The prophecy turns Uriandel against Sigvariel, Jeremiah, and the outsiders.
Uriandel's fight with Jeremiah escalates across the Crosford plains and then into the Jazarel Battle. Uriandel's lightning clashes with Jeremiah's cosmic magic, meteors, barriers, earth magic, skyships, constructs, and mass essence draining. After the two guardians weaken each other, Zero pins Uriandel with gravity magic while Mia drives Jeremiah into the earth. After the devastation around Jazarel and Thamrielle's intervention, Thalion and Isandriel catch Uriandel as he tries to flee. Isandriel kills him with Tal'Massar's power.
