Character Network Timeline

Razen is a Tenari mage who teaches at Tequaltor War School and organizes Thalcoris's soldiers and mages under Tazarin. He helped train Kaelion, Cassian, Eira and Lythariel during their stay in Xolterra.

Magic

Razen combines water and temporal magic. He draws water from nearby canals or rivers, freezes it into attacks and shields, and strengthens his ice with temporal magic. His temporal defenses can stop powerful blasts or slow incoming strikes.

History

Teaching at Tequaltor

Years before the Xalmyrrans arrived, the Wanderer of Xolterra defeated Razen and the other high level mages at Tequaltor. Razen later taught the newcomers about Thalcoris, its history and magic. He arranged private training space for Eira and Lythariel and organized public duels. Cassian defeated him, but Kaelion yielded after failing to break through his defenses.

Xalatun and its aftermath

Razen organized forces for the war at Xalatun, unaware that Xoh'Metztli's mind control was making the Tenari kill their own people. Under that influence, he and Zayren attacked Eira and Lythariel. After Zayren gravely injured Eira, Razen fought Lythariel with ice and temporal magic. She shattered his defenses and hurled him away.

Cassian's destruction of the moon goddess broke the control. Despite Tazarin's assurance that they were not at fault, Razen accepted responsibility for what they had done. He helped direct the army and redirected the river to restore Xalatun's water supply.

Relationships

  • Amaril: Razen's wife is Tequaltor's librarian and a fellow teacher. She healed him after his duel with Cassian.
  • Tazarin and Kaelion: Razen serves Tazarin and recognizes Kaelion as the future emperor. He tried to protect Kaelion at Xalatun.
