Astralynne was the capital of Varnhallow. Within the Varnhallow temporal anomaly, it was the seat of Eltaru-Ninsath and housed the Grand Court, where tournaments selected the divine patriarchs.
Layout and Grand Court
The city had a grid of broad roads, tall buildings in iron and gold tones, large residential blocks and spacious parks. Construct carts ran along rails, while other constructs cleaned streets and hauled goods. Skyships used orderly docks around the outskirts.
The Grand Court was a vast arena beside a government district enclosed by tall walls clad in iron. The palace and government complex contained courtyards, parks and buildings fitted with wrought iron and stained glass.
The tournaments were held every other year. Competitors fought with a single essence core, without weapons or draining essence from the world. Patriarchs maintained barriers around the arena, and teams of mages repaired damage between matches.

Before the anomaly, Astralynne was Sigvariel's capital. In 2082 AX, Uriandel's forces devastated much of it and took northern Varnhallow while claiming allegiance to Abraxas. Astralem replaced it as the outer province's capital. When the anomaly's survivors reached ancient Valrindor, scouts found Astralynne in ruins, with Uriandel's army preparing outside it.
Eltaru used the final tournament to gather the essence needed to release the temporal spell. Kren and Svanhild tried to kill him, attacking Thalion while he wore Eltaru's golden mask. Eltaru then emerged from hiding and drained cores and citizens in the stands to power the release. Thalion led surviving patriarchs, citizens and competitors out aboard skyships as the anomaly collapsed.
