Morozkaya

Overview

Morozkaya is a peninsula nation in southern Valrindor, with Kyranthos as its capital and gateway city. It is the home of Pyrathalor's followers, the Morozkayan diarchy, volcanic agriculture, and the fire-and-ice traditions surrounding Vianna, Kazimir, Kyrana, Liana, Ivan, and Radomir.

Ancient Morozkaya and Kyranthos

Ancient Morozkaya was an essence-rich Malverand city on the peninsula. After the old city is destroyed, Kyranthos becomes the peninsula's capital.

Geography

Morozkaya is a sprawling southern peninsula with a massive central volcano, glaciers, tall mountains, smaller frost-covered peaks, fertile plains, and mineral-rich volcanic soil. The volcanic soil supports extensive farming, and Radomir's rise in Morozkaya leaves visible traces in the farmlands around Kyranthos.

Kyranthos stands near the base of the immense volcano at the peninsula's threshold. A great volcanic wall surrounds or guards the peninsula, and Igor constructed it.

Kyranthos and Morozkayan Life

Kyranthos is built from dark volcanic stone, with controlled lava channels used for heat and light. Water, ice, earth, and fire mages maintain the city's rivers, lava channels, volcanic stonework, heating, farming, and defenses. The Ember Spire houses the diarchy's council chamber. The city also contains docks, a volcanic arena, and volcanic archives.

Morozkayans revere Pyrathalor and practice elemental magic. Citizens bow to Pyrathalor, mourn his loss, and restore the rivers, lava channels, and fertile ground after his death. The country is also practical: its people rely on local food, volcanic fish, grain farming, mineral wealth, and trade.

Diarchy and Council

Morozkaya is ruled by a diarchy and council. The diarchy is a two-seat office held by powerful elemental mages. The council governs, manages city services, conducts diplomacy, and rebuilds after war damage and the deaths of leaders.

Dorian and Rowenna become Morozkaya's first diarchs after they settle in the village that becomes Kyranthos. Kazimir and Kyrana hold the diarch seats when Pyrathalor brings Vianna to Kyranthos, and Vianna joins the council after receiving her glaive. After Kazimir and Kyrana die during the invasion of Thalassai, Vianna leads alongside Ivan, Liana, surviving Morozkayan mages, and the council.

Radomir, already the flameward sovereign of Drozhvenya, seeks the vacant second seat because Morozkaya's volcanic soil is valuable for grain farming. Vianna backs him publicly, Kaldaryn endorses the choice, and Radomir becomes Vianna's other diarch, responsible for agriculture, economics, trade, and alliance logistics. During Thalena's diplomatic visit to Kyranthos, Radomir and Liana handle talks from the Ember Spire's ornate diarch chairs. Liana keeps records, works as a water mage, escorts visitors to the archives, and sends messages.

History

In the Malverand era, Morozkaya is an essence-rich city and peninsula within the expanding Malverand Empire. The peninsula's location, fertile flat terrain, cold workable farms, mineral-rich earth, skyship materials, and potent essence draw millions of inhabitants to the city and peninsula.

Barachiel's first use of the spiral shard devastates ancient Morozkaya. The shard drains essence from the earth, sky, city, and people, leaving Morozkaya City lifeless. Remiella and Thamrielle raise the volcano as the tsunami approaches, and the catastrophe reshapes the peninsula into a volcanic landscape. No remnants of the old city remain, but the volcanic soil supports abundant farming.

Kyranthos is one of the first villages that emerges after the volcano's creation. Dorian and Rowenna settle there, establish the diarchy, and become Morozkaya's first diarchs. Pyrathalor chooses Balthazar as his first wielder to protect Morozkaya.

When Pyrathalor brings Vianna to Kyranthos, Morozkaya is a powerful isolated peninsula nation. Kazimir, Kyrana, Ivan, and Liana train and accept her there. During Isaac's operation against Alistair in Radiance Prime, Kazimir, Liana, Ivan, and about fifty Morozkayan mages travel with Isaac, Vianna, and Pyrathalor. The deal promises Brighthaven ships and assistance for the future invasion of Thalassai, trade, and Morozkayan metals for Brighthaven constructs.

Morozkaya joins the alliance against Thalassai after Thalena captures Pyrathalor. The invasion of Thalassai ends with Pyrathalor destroyed, Kazimir and Kyrana dead, and Vianna returning to Kyranthos after losing the god's shard.

After the invasion of Thalassai, Vianna gathers Morozkaya's council to restore Kyranthos's rivers, lava channels, and city services. Messengers go to Kaldaryn, Skarnheim, and Bjarnholt, and Vianna waits until Kyranthos is stable before leaving again with Virel and Maia. At the Kyranthos negotiations with Garrik, Sigurd, Radomir, and Bogdan, Radomir completes the diarchy; the same meeting is shattered by a timerift that takes Ivan, Kren, Zhang, and Svanhild.

Resources from Morozkaya, Borovia, and Drozhvenya support Garrik's Maraveth front against Eremion. Morozkaya enters a seed-exchange trade agreement with Haverloch. Vianna, Kren, Lysander, and several Morozkayan mages answer Virel's call through Axanaxa, while Morozkayan forces also appear among the allied troops near Rimvold.
