Kyranthos is the capital of Morozkaya, standing at the threshold of its peninsula in Valrindor. The city lies below a massive volcano surrounded by smaller frosty peaks. A great volcanic wall protects the peninsula, with monumental blackstone gates opening onto a broad road.
Layout and civic buildings
Buildings and walkways are made from dark volcanic stone polished to a smooth, reflective finish. Controlled lava channels heat the streets and buildings, keeping the city warm through winter. Water flows down from the mountain, while ice and water channels run beneath the streets. Mages maintain the heating and water supply with earth, fire, ice and water magic.
The Ember Spire stands on a slope at the rear of the city. Its dark stone is threaded with amber veins. The diarchs and council govern from its hall, where a round table and ornate chairs include two seats marked by orange and icy blue patterns. A volcanic arena behind the spire is used for combat training.
Volcanic archives lie deep beneath the city.
Agriculture and transport
Fertile volcanic soil supports farms around the city. Boats use the city's harbor. Kyranthos trades with Skarnheim.

History
Loss of Pyrathalor and recovery
The invasion of Thalassai cost Morozkaya Pyrathalor and its diarchs, Kazimir and Kyrana. Pyrathalor’s death and the absence of the mages who maintained the rivers and lava channels disrupted the city’s water supply and heating. Vianna gathered the council and organized the training of new fire, earth, water and ice mages. The rivers and lava channels recovered, allowing Kyranthos to stabilize. Virel helped guide the work and made the heating channels more symmetrical.

History
Village and fortifications
Kyranthos began as an unnamed village of wooden homes, fishing and modest cultivation at the foot of the mountain. Dorian named it Kyranthos, while Balthazar called it Kyranthos Village. Dorian and Rowenna remained with the villagers and became Morozkaya's first diarchs. They proposed routing the river through the settlement and using lava to heat it.
Igor later built the great wall to keep the peninsula outside the wider continental war.

New diarchy and the timerift
Vianna supported Radomir as the second diarch during a diplomatic gathering in Kyranthos. A timerift subsequently swallowed Ivan, Zhang, Kren and Svanhild in the Ember Spire. Sigurd ruptured the rift, producing a shockwave that shattered the spire and damaged nearby buildings. Radomir organized repairs, while Liana assessed injuries. After Vianna left to find the missing mages, Radomir and Liana kept the city running.
The harbor also sheltered refugees from Bjarnholt, whose longships lay alongside construct vessels.

Dorian and Rowenna introduced a funerary tradition in which the dead were burned, with Pyrathalor’s fire and ice enriching the soil. When they died, the growing settlement honored them and recorded them as its inaugural diarchs.

The timerifts had been cast from the void by Deylin and a future Sigurd, through a tear opened by Silas and enlarged by Thalena. Horol’Khai directed the taken mages into Varnhallow, but her weakening magic could not guarantee their arrival time or place.

Thalena’s account
In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, Garrik reports a volcanic eruption far stronger than expected. Vianna and Kren defended Kyranthos but were swallowed by the lava and died.
