Radiance Prime

Overview

Radiance Prime is the capital of Brighthaven, located at the northern tip of the island nation. It is the seat of the Brighthaven Triarch, Vianna's birthplace, and the city that contains Radiance Prime Magic School, the Spire of Triumvirate, official skyship docks, and construct and metalwork districts.

After the city's destruction in 2085 AX and later reconstruction, Alistair uses Radiance Prime's destruction to build a national doctrine against gods, outsiders, and uncontrolled power. The rebuilt capital remains his ruling seat until the Brighthaven Civil War.

Cityscape

Radiance Prime is enclosed by sleek fortified walls and built in white stone, steel, and glass. The city has bright streets, smooth essence-lit pavement, tall spires, official skyship docks, patrol routes, districts, neighborhoods, and an industrial district used for constructs and metalwork. Ocean air reaches the capital from the coast.

The Spire of Triumvirate dominates the city as the triarch's seat and Isandriel's former home. Radiance Prime Magic School stands within the capital, with pale walls, imposing gates, a pristine courtyard, and arching steel-and-glass spires that match Brighthaven's polished style.

Radiance Prime Magic School

Radiance Prime Magic School is the capital's magic school and the school Vianna attends as a child. It stands within Radiance Prime near her family home, with pale walls, imposing gates, smooth stone paving, a pristine courtyard, grand halls, lecture spaces, a domed gathering hall, classrooms, and school arenas. Its arching steel-and-glass spires match the rebuilt capital's polished Brighthaven style, and students wear neat white uniforms.

The school separates students by study path under class banners for magic schools such as cosmic, divine, air, lightning, and fire. Isaac teaches the class for strange or unusual magic and trains Vianna in the school's classrooms and arenas. His training and the school tournament make Vianna's fire-and-ice magic public across Brighthaven, giving Alistair a public pretext to target her and Pyrathalor.

Spire of Triumvirate

The Spire of Triumvirate houses the Brighthaven Triarch in Radiance Prime. It stands near an officials-only skyship dock and has gilded doors, briefing and meeting chambers, and a height that dominates the city skyline. Isandriel uses it as his home and governing base while he governs Brighthaven.

The 2085 AX fire-and-frost eruption buckles the spire and splits its upper half away. After Radiance Prime is rebuilt, Alistair enters the reconstructed spire, declares his immortality, and takes the head seat of the triarch. During the Brighthaven Civil War, Alistair rules alone from the spire until Isaac, Vianna, Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Morozkayan allies isolate the building from the surrounding city and end his regime.

Government and Culture

Radiance Prime is governed by the Brighthaven Triarch from the Spire of Triumvirate. Under Isandriel, the city is his capital, sanctuary, and base in Brighthaven. After Radiance Prime's destruction in 2085 AX, Alistair and the newly formed triarch rebuild the capital and use the destruction and recovery to justify Brighthaven's isolationist politics.

By Vianna's youth, Alistair Voss rules from the Spire of Triumvirate as high technomancer. Radiance Prime's schools and public assemblies teach that Pyrathalor destroyed the city, feeding Brighthaven's distrust of gods and its focus on constructs, skyships, defensive technology, and strict control of outsiders.

History

During the Malverand era, Isandriel plans to make a new capital in Brighthaven, within his southern Malverand jurisdiction. That city becomes Radiance Prime: Isandriel's Brighthaven capital and, geographically, the northern-tip capital of the island. Raphael visits him there, Michael meets him inside the newly constructed Spire of Triumvirate, and Thamrielle spends years with him in the city as he withdraws from Malverand governance.

Isandriel places Thalor in Radiance Prime years before the fire-and-frost eruption. Thalor forges and repairs metalwork for the city's people, and Isandriel covers Thalor's origin by calling him a friend. When Viviana and Thalor channel into the burning frost crystal in the industrial district, the resulting fire-and-frost eruption transforms Thalor into Pyrathalor and devastates the capital. Radiance Prime collapses, the Spire of Triumvirate breaks apart, and the ruined city is left in ash, rubble, molten metal, and ice.

Alistair drives Isandriel, Viviana, Gren, Aurelia, and Pyrathalor away from Brighthaven after Radiance Prime's destruction. Months later, Radiance Prime begins to recover, with half the city still in ruins. Alistair swears before the new triarch that Brighthaven will never be reduced to ruins again, then orders the destruction and the god blamed for it to be taught in every home, school, and assembly.

The rebuilt Radiance Prime shines with taller glass-and-steel spires and renewed public pride. Alistair resumes power inside the reconstructed Spire of Triumvirate, and the capital houses Brighthaven's long militarization, technological growth, and distorted history around Pyrathalor.

Vianna grows up in Radiance Prime with Marcus, Vivian, and Julian. She attends Radiance Prime Magic School, where Isaac trains her until her fire-and-ice magic becomes public. Alistair later uses her resemblance to Pyrathalor as a political weapon, forcing Isaac to evacuate her family from the city.

The Brighthaven Civil War brings Isaac, Vianna, Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Morozkayan mages back to Radiance Prime. They enter the capital, isolate the Spire of Triumvirate from the surrounding city, and end Alistair Voss's rule. After Alistair's fall, Eira's group visits Radiance Prime and stays at the Spire of Triumvirate, where city records still preserve fabricated history about Pyrathalor and Alistair's millennia-long leadership.
