He sought Morozkaya's support before Pyrathalor was captured, warning that Thalassai threatened the nations of Valrindor that worshipped gods. After the capture, recovering Pyrathalor became Morozkaya's immediate goal.

Haverloch supplied ships, mages, and essence cores for Brighthaven's vessels. Felix commanded the fleet assigned to Pyrenis, while Simon accompanied Virel's strike force. Ozaith and Ozaryn brought Ulzathir's separate fleet, propelled by teams of aether mages.
Garrik kept Kaldaryn out of the war and signed a non-aggression pact with Morozkaya. Haverloch and Morozkaya offered refuge to the people of Stormhaven, threatened by the darkness, in exchange for passage through Stormhaven Strait.

Virel led about a hundred mages of level eight or higher through the southern darkness toward Chronasis. Simon supplied breathing devices for that crossing. Kazimir, Kyrana, and Vianna were assigned to fight Thalena, using fire and ice to interrupt her more complex spells.
The campaign ended in retreat. Kazimir and Kyrana died. Hrzai pierced Ozaith with a golden sword, giving Cassian the opening to kill him. Thalena consumed Pyrathalor's core to destroy the asteroid Ozaith had summoned. Isaac brought the surviving strike force back to its ships. Haverloch lost several hundred men and some vessels; Morozkaya returned without its god or diarchs. Virel sheltered Ozaryn, whose real name was Maia, concealing her survival from Ulzathir.
