Overview
Remiella was a Malverand guardian, a rare dual water and earth mage, and the ancient wielder of Nerissa's wave shard. She governed Thiravos and Theryssa for the Malverand Empire, and her final wave-shard spell shattered those lands into island nations.
Magic and Rule
As a young prodigious mage, Remiella had water-and-earth mastery that surpassed anything known in Malverand at the time. She used that power for large-scale development, reshaping lakes, rivers, shorelines, barren land, and future settlement sites. She also followed Eremion's controlled burns by turning scorched ground into fertile fields and farmland.
After the guardians received long lives and shard pacts, Remiella led thousands of colonists to the newly reached continent of Thiravos and its northern region, Theryssa. The wave shard strengthened her rule, and the two lands thrived for a time under her magic. Remiella sometimes felt she was losing herself.
Catastrophe
Tensions between Thiravos and Theryssa grew into the Thiravos-Theryssa Civil War after Barachiel's disappearance. Remiella returned to stop the civil war, refused Eremion's offer to send an army to spare the soldiers, and voiced a wish to give up her shard.
Remiella later stopped answering Malverand messengers. Her final wave-shard spell severed Thiravos and Theryssa, broke the region into countless islands, unleashed a massive tsunami over northern Valrindor, destroyed coastal cities as far as Blackcrag and Maraveth, and killed millions. The overload killed Remiella herself. Nerissa manipulated her into the fatal act so Nerissa could seek a new wielder and push Thiravos and Theryssa out from under Malverand's rule; the wave-shard overload deepened the guardian discord that broke Malverand apart.
Relationships
- Nerissa: Nerissa was the goddess behind Remiella's wave shard and the divine force behind her fatal overload. Remiella's death allowed Nerissa to seek a new wielder and weakened Malverand's hold over Thiravos and Theryssa.
- Raphael: Raphael used Remiella's wave-shard overload to justify closer oversight of the surviving guardians. Remiella feared Raphael and became quiet whenever he visited.
- Thamrielle: Thamrielle liked Remiella and reacts strongly to her death after earlier losses involving Abraxas and Jorhan.
