A timerift took Ivan from a meeting in Kyranthos to Varnhallow. He fought Svanhild in its tournament, but her blinking allowed her to strike him from behind and defeat him. He later escaped Varnhallow's temporal bubble with Thalion's group and reached ancient Malverand. Although Vianna objected, he offered Thalion his strength against the guardians and adopted the name Igor.
In Rimvold, Ivan and other earth mages built a hidden docking bay inside a mountain for the Order's skyships. He also constructed a road at Aelius's request. At Isandriel's request, he built the wall near Kyranthos to keep the region out of the guardians' war. His extensive construction of villages, towns, fortifications and cities made him known as Igor the Builder.
Igor tunneled the Order's forces beneath battlefields and raised walls to trap retreating enemies. During the attack on Jazarel, he and other earth mages excavated the lake's edge while Benedict and the ice mages held its water back. Their work prepared the great wave released by Thalion and Isandriel. Igor later found the defeated Jeremiah underground and brought him to Isandriel. He subsequently traveled through the former Jazarel Empire rebuilding its devastated settlements.

The Plains of Eternity and stasis
Igor accompanied Isandriel's expedition into the Plains of Eternity to find Vianna, then known as Viviana. In Qarezh, he lowered the seawall with permission to let the expedition's vessel enter the city. He trained with Vashir and Drashir as he adjusted to the plains, but found fighting without access to the ground difficult.
After the expedition found Viviana and Gren, Igor refused to leave without her. He helped Isandriel fight Thamrielle, raising a wall against her tidal wave and catching Isandriel on a stone monolith after a blast. During the conflict with Myrravel, he trapped its advancing army in a landslide and later held Ranan in a prison of rock.
Thalion required Igor, Vianna and Kren to return with the group despite Igor questioning whether they were being forced. Beneath Maraveth, Igor and John excavated the buried vault, which Eira opened. Igor volunteered to enter a sealed case after Eira tested her stasis spell on Abraxas. He remained preserved when Eira awoke in 5369 AX to wake the group.

Ivan and Liana were initially reluctant to accept Radomir's changes to Morozkaya, but Ivan eventually acknowledged their success. He refused to join further wars and concentrated on managing Kyranthos. Vianna supported him as Morozkaya's representative on the new council, and he attended its meeting, greeting Xarion and conveying Vianna and Radomir's regards.
