Character Network

Liana is a water mage of the Morozkaya Council and a mentor and friend of Vianna.

Magic

Liana is a water mage. She directs flowing water to quench molten material and divert debris.

History

Liana helped Kyrana, Kazimir and Ivan make Vianna's elemental glaive. She joined Ivan and Kazimir's reinforcements at Brighthaven when Isaac moved against Alistair Voss; their mages used barriers to isolate the Spire of Triumvirate and keep reinforcements away.

After Pyrathalor disappeared, Kazimir ordered Liana and Ivan to prepare their armies and send word to other nations. Liana urged the grieving Vianna to use her anger to help Pyrathalor. She joined the invasion of Thalassai to recover Pyrathalor and fought Lunorax and Astryx alongside Ivan. When Isaac detonated Thalena's black hole, Liana's water quenched molten debris and diverted it from the surviving mages. Isaac later brought the survivors back to their fleet.

Following the deaths of Kazimir and Kyrana, Liana and Ivan supported Vianna as Morozkaya's leader. Liana gathered the Council to restore Kyranthos's rivers and lava channels after Pyrathalor's loss and promised to train new water mages.

Relationships

  • Vianna: Her pupil in water magic and her friend. Liana encouraged her to help Pyrathalor and supported her as Morozkaya's ruler after the invasion.
  • Ivan: Her Council colleague. They prepared for Pyrathalor's rescue, fought together in Thalassai and supported Vianna's rule.

The timerift

Liana disliked Radomir's growing control over Morozkaya. A timerift took Ivan during a gathering in the Ember Spire, and Sigurd's spell against it destroyed the building. Liana carried Vianna after Sigurd put her to sleep, handed her to Virel and led mages to assess damage and injuries nearby. After Vianna woke, Liana asked Virel to find Ivan before he left. She slapped Vianna to get her attention, then embraced her as she cried.

When Eira later examined Kyranthos's archives, Liana confirmed that Dorian and Rowenna had founded the city more than three millennia earlier.

Relationships

  • Vianna: Her pupil in water magic and her friend. Liana supported her through Pyrathalor's loss and her appointment as ruler, then comforted her after the timerift took her friends.
  • Ivan: Her Council colleague. They fought together in Thalassai and supported Vianna's rule; his disappearance prompted Liana to ask Virel to find him.
  • Radomir: Liana resented his dominance while Vianna ruled and disliked being left with him.

Liana is a water mage of the Morozkaya Council and a diarch of Morozkaya alongside Radomir.
