Overview
Vianna Kairo uses the name Viviana during her time-displaced years. She is a Brighthaven-born fire and ice mage, former wielder of Pyrathalor, and leader in Morozkaya after the Thalassai invasion. Isaac trains her at Radiance Prime Magic School, and Alistair uses her resemblance to Pyrathalor against her family, driving them out of Brighthaven.
Vianna survives the fall of her first homes, joins the forces that become Kaldaryn, becomes Pyrathalor's wielder in Kyranthos, and later returns to Brighthaven with Isaac, Pyrathalor, and Morozkayan mages to kill Alistair. Varnhallow's temporal collapse pulls her into Varnhallow, Myrravel, the Eternal War in the Plains of Eternity, and temporal stasis. After Raphael's revival, she fights in the Attack on Ishtanur and near Kaldaryn.
Appearance and Demeanor
Vianna has distinctive orange-and-white hair. As a child in Brighthaven, the coloring draws ridicule and attention; later, after she stops dyeing it, the white and orange mix together. Her resemblance to Pyrathalor turns her into a flashpoint for Brighthaven's old fears around Alistair, Isaac, Damian, and Olivia.
She is guarded, blunt, and loyal to the people who earn her trust. Betrayal and loss make her increasingly willing to kill. Her strongest attachments remain steady: Kren / Gren, Pyrathalor, Isaac, Garrik, Virel, Maia, and Morozkaya.
Magic and Combat
Vianna reaches level five as a sixteen-year-old fire and ice mage under Isaac's harsh training, an unprecedented rise at Radiance Prime Magic School. After bonding with Pyrathalor, she channels frostfire power through his shard and the Glaive of Frost and Fire, then trains in Morozkaya with Kazimir, Kyrana, Ivan, and Liana. After Pyrathalor's destruction, Vianna returns to Kyranthos with a bare palm and a severed divine bond. The glaive is her carried relic of Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Kyrana.
Her magic broadens beyond fire and ice. Morozkayan training adds earth and water techniques, Kren carries and shields her with air magic in joint fights, and Virel's study of Thalassai fire principles pushes her toward plasma. After Raphael's revival, she fights with ice shields, blue flame, fire-and-air movement, and plasma weapons.
Plasma Blades
Vianna's plasma blades are close-combat weapons formed from plasma magic. She develops them after giving the glaive to Pyrathalor and trains the technique with Kren until she can form, dismiss, throw, extend, and detonate the blades.
The blades usually form paired swords or cutting weapons with thin, intensely hot centers and white-scarlet edges. In the Plains of Eternity, Vianna uses them against Myrravel's forces, cutting through stone, intercepting lightning, and detonating blades among enemy formations. During the Attack on Ishtanur, she fights with plasma blades, ice, blue flame, and air-assisted movement against Ulzathir defenders before Zhulkar overpowers her.
History
Vianna grows up in Radiance Prime with her parents, Marcus and Vivian, and her older brother Julian. Isaac's private training awakens her fire and ice magic and draws enough attention for Alistair to use Brighthaven's false history of Pyrathalor against her. Isaac gets the family out by construct boat when the Brighthaven Civil War begins.
After two years in Hengzhou, shapers from Shroudvale devastate the city. Vianna believes Marcus, Vivian, and Julian are dead and is taken in by Khoradyn, Garrik, Kren, Zhang, and the army that becomes Kaldaryn. Kren looks after her after the Battle of Hengzhou, and Kaldaryn becomes her first adopted home.
Julian later returns and tries to deliver Vianna to Alistair. Pyrathalor rescues her, Vianna kills Julian, and she accepts a pact with the god. Pyrathalor brings her to Kyranthos, where Morozkaya's leaders train her and welcome her. With Pyrathalor, Isaac, Kazimir, and Morozkayan mages, Vianna later returns to Brighthaven and kills Alistair.
When Thalassai captures and destroys Pyrathalor, Vianna returns to Kyranthos with a bare hand and a severed divine bond. Kazimir and Kyrana are dead, and Vianna leads Morozkaya's recovery with the council behind her. She publicly backs Radomir as the second diarch, restoring the diarchy. Radomir takes on much of the country's practical governance.
Varnhallow's failing temporal space draws Vianna, Kren, Maia, and Virel into the displaced groups around Astralynne and the Grand Court. In the past, she uses the name Viviana and swears loyalty to Thalion's Order. She travels with Kren and Aurelia through Ulzathir and Myrravel while Myrravel and Ulzathir forces move to take the source and kill the Oracles, and she fights beside the forces opposing Myrravel after Nadun is betrayed and killed.
During the Eternal War, Vianna confronts Aurelia over the betrayal and kills her. She survives the aftermath, spends time in Skarnheim with Kren and Thalion's Order, enters temporal stasis, and later awakens in the present. After recovering, she returns to Morozkaya, trains with Kren and Zayren, attends the Axial Concord planning in Axanaxa, fights near Ishtanur and Kaldaryn, and plans to check on Borovia and Morozkaya after Azarion's hurricane.
Relationships
- Family: Vianna is the daughter of Marcus and Vivian and the younger sister of Julian. She believes all three are lost after Hengzhou, and Julian's later betrayal ends when Vianna kills him.
- Kren / Gren: Kren is Vianna's lover, closest companion, and most consistent partner across Kaldaryn, Morozkaya, Myrravel, stasis, the Attack on Ishtanur, and Kaldaryn after Azarion's hurricane.
- Pyrathalor and Isaac: Pyrathalor rescues Vianna, chooses her as his wielder, and gives her a second home in Morozkaya. Isaac trains her, protects her family, joins the Morozkayan return to Brighthaven that kills Alistair, and remains deeply invested in keeping her alive.
- Morozkaya and Kaldaryn: Vianna's closest political and military ties run through Morozkaya, Kaldaryn, Garrik, Radomir, Ivan, Liana, Kazimir, Kyrana, Virel, Maia, Zhang, and later Thalion's Order.
- Enemies: Alistair hunts Vianna in Brighthaven and drives her exile. Later enemies include the Shroudvale shapers, hostile Myrravel and Ulzathir forces, Aurelia after the source betrayal, Ranan, Nuvyra, Sharuzh, Zhulkar, Zain, Raphael, and their armies.
