Overview
Julian is Vianna's older brother, a Brighthaven-born fire mage, and the son of Marcus and Vivian. He guides Vianna through her first day at Radiance Prime Magic School, knows the school's class system well, and expects to become a fire mage.
History
After Vianna enters Isaac's class, Julian remains part of her family life and begins working alongside Marcus. He reacts with concern as Isaac's training grows harsher, praises Vianna when she becomes a fire and ice mage, and expects her to surpass him.
Julian escapes Brighthaven with Marcus, Vivian, Vianna, and Isaac during the Brighthaven Civil War. The family settles in Hengzhou, where Julian still wants to return to Brighthaven. During the shaper attack on Hengzhou, he and Vianna's parents go out to fight while Vianna hides, and Vianna later believes all three are dead.
Julian survives and later reaches Vianna in Kaldaryn. He lures her away with a false story that he returned to Brighthaven, the Brighthaven Civil War is over, and he can take her home. The journey exposes the reunion as a trap: Julian brings her to a Brighthaven construct boat from Alistair, uses Damian's name to draw her onward, refuses to return to Kaldaryn, and orders the crew to seize her. Pyrathalor kills the crew and maims Julian, and Vianna kills Julian after he admits his bitterness toward her.
Abilities
Julian is a level eight fire mage. During the abduction attempt, he keeps pace with Vianna's escape over the ocean and throws fire magic at her. He also survives a return journey to Brighthaven after Hengzhou and crafts a boat by hand.
Relationships
Julian begins as Vianna's protective older brother, but his resentment over the family's exile turns him against her. His death remains part of Vianna's grief and later doubts. His final crew includes familiar faces from Vianna's past.
