Valrindor Atlas Character Network Timeline

Eira Caedris is a scholar from Irrathis and the wielder of the Spiral Shard. She worked for the Xalmyrran Council with Lirien before claiming the shard in the Temple of no Return. She is the daughter of Deylin and Ilyra and the partner of Kaelion.

Appearance

Eira has long dark amber hair, green eyes flecked with gold and pale skin. Her body became stronger and leaner after she took the spiral shard. Before that, she had blond hair and wore practical clothes for her Council expeditions. Lythariel later provided her with robes of purple and silver.

Personality

Eira enjoys books and the discovery of old records and artifacts. She wanted to become a scholar like Deylin and found Aldar's restrictions on her work frustrating. She asks questions about the places she visits and searches their libraries even when her companions want to concentrate on returning home.

She becomes attached to the people who teach and protect her. She misses Lirien after the temple mission, relies on Lythariel and wants to understand why her parents left her in an orphanage. She tried to stop Aurion and Xarion fighting and blamed herself for the deaths when her shard overwhelmed their armies. Cassian and Lythariel reassured her that the destruction had escaped her control.

Magic

Eira can find hidden artifacts, read unusual texts and open doors that others cannot see or move. This ability distinguished her during Council expeditions.

The spiral shard gives her darkness and life magic. She forms tendrils to move through forests, pull objects and attack opponents, and she casts disintegration beams and broad waves of darkness. Lythariel taught her to control these powers. During the Irrathis tournament, Rhyzmar recognized her as a level eight darkness mage and called her the Master of Tendrils.

The shard's power can exceed her control. At the Soltheris border, it drained the lives of soldiers and turned their essence into vegetation. Eira survived the injury Zayren inflicted through her chest, and her wounds healed as Lythariel carried her through the void.

History

Childhood and Council work

Eira was born to Deylin and Ilyra in Erenmyr. Deylin had come from Earth, while Ilyra was a healer from Xalmyrra. A golden mage persuaded them to let their daughter grow up in Irrathis, where Aldar and the Council would prepare her to end Xalmyrra's cycles. Her parents watched her from a distance rather than raising her themselves.

Eira grew up in an orphanage and attended Irrathis Magic School. She befriended Cassian there, but he later left to travel. Lirien raised and taught her and became her companion on twelve years of Council work. Eira found artifacts and records that other explorers had missed, including a page near Lake Velisyth connected to her spiral mark, visions and Arcanis. Deylin had placed many of these finds on the golden mage's instructions. He also saved Eira and Lirien from a corrupted bear.

The Temple of no Return

In the previous Xalmyrran cycle, the Council sent Eira on a mission with Lirien and Kaelion. They crossed the Land of Darkness, protected by Kaelion's illusions and Lirien's device. Eira found the Heart of Oblivion and a hidden route into the Temple of no Return.

The first door disappeared when Lirien opened it. Eira entered through a second door invisible to her companions and claimed the spiral shard. She emerged alone with the powers of a darkness mage. Outside the temple, she killed stalkers with her new magic but could not control it well enough to purify a corrupted tree. The darkness then pulled her away.

Lythariel found and sheltered her and taught her to concentrate and control her darkness magic. When Deylin arranged their return to Irrathis, Aldar described a different mission. In the current Xalmyrran cycle, he had sent a different Eira to Lythenmere, while Kaelion and Lirien went to the temple. Lirien entered alone while Kaelion waited outside for days. She did not return.

While Eira remained inside the temple, Deylin crossed into the current Xalmyrran cycle. The golden mage told him to repeat his life without having another child. The mage took Eira's place in the world while she remained inside the temple. After she claimed the shard, the two courses of Xalmyrra began combining. The black smoke from the temple marked the earlier world's intrusion into the new one.

The tournament and the border war

Eira entered the tournament in Irrathis, where her new magic defeated Astheron. Cassian and Ilyra intervened to block her final darkness wave before it could kill him, and Astheron yielded. Kaelion later defeated Eira with illusions. During their fight, his magic recovered his memories of the mission they had shared.

The tournament was interrupted by black spikes and the collapse of the surrounding city. The courses of Xalmyrra merged, and memories of earlier lives returned. Mages defended the survivors and rebuilt the damaged streets and buildings.

Eira accompanied Xarion's army toward Soltheris. Aldar sent Silas to take her to Aurion in Zeydrith, hoping that she could persuade him to surrender. Aurion instead asked her to use his celestial orrery to restore the Land of Darkness and prove that the machine worked. He showed her the connection between her spiral mark and the Aethrendar Gate and told her about the golden creature that had guided him. Eira wanted to stop the war and return to her Council work.

When Aurion and Xarion faced each other at the Soltheris border, Eira asked them not to fight. The shard's darkness erupted beyond her control, broke their defenses and killed most of both armies. The stolen life became plants across the battlefield, and the orrery collapsed. Deylin blinked in, took Eira away and fled on Glin to Erenmyr.

Flight to Xolterra

Shadows pursued Eira. Cassian and Lythariel came to protect her and took her west through Valcirae, where Orin stayed behind to defend the city. When she remembered the army's destruction, Eira broke down and Lythariel carried her until she could travel herself again. During the journey, Cassian told her that Deylin and Ilyra were her parents. Eira recognized how much she had already understood from their earlier meetings but still wanted to know why they had kept their relationship hidden.

They crossed to Xolterra, where Kaelion caught up with them on Splin, and reached Thalcoris. Eira and Lythariel stayed in a house provided for them and attended Tequaltor War School. Eira searched its records for the history of Arcanis, The Eleven Stories of Old, the Wanderer and the gods influencing Kaelion. She wanted to find Thalena and return home rather than remain in Thalcoris's wars.

Escape through the gates

Eira and Lythariel went looking for Kaelion near Xalatun. Zayren attacked them with aether magic, tearing through Eira's chest. Lythariel fought Zayren and Razen, carried Eira toward a gate and followed the spiral's voice through the void. Eira's wounds healed while Lythariel carried her through the void.

Jareth tried to lead them into a facility. Lythariel refused to enter, repelled his companions and broke the gate activators, bringing them out onto barren ground.

Relationships

  • Kaelion: Her partner and companion on the temple mission. His illusions protected their journey and later recovered his memories of it. Eira missed him when they were separated and wanted to find him rather than leave him in Thalcoris.
  • Lirien: Her childhood mentor and companion on twelve years of Council expeditions. Lirien raised and taught her. She was missing when Eira returned from the temple, and Eira wants to know whether she is still alive.
  • Lythariel: Her darkness teacher and protector. Lythariel sheltered her after the temple, helped her return to Irrathis and carried her away from danger in Xalmyrra and Xolterra. Eira relies on her guidance and care.
  • Deylin and Ilyra: Her parents, who gave her to the golden mage for the plan against the cycles. Deylin guided her discoveries without revealing their relationship and later rescued her from the battlefield. Ilyra healed her after a vision and protected Astheron from her darkness wave.
  • Aldar: The Council head who supervised her upbringing and work. Eira resented some of his restrictions but continued seeking his explanations and support after the temple mission.
  • Cassian: Her friend from Irrathis Magic School. He helped protect her during the tournament and her flight west, and he told her who her parents were.
  • Xarion: A friend who supported her during the tournament. His conflict with Aurion brought Eira to the battlefield where she tried to stop their armies fighting.

Eira created Lythariel and introduced darkness magic to Xalmyrra while struggling to survive. The shard altered Xalmyrra and gave its inhabitants memories of Lythariel's life. Jareth tried to lead them into a facility. Lythariel refused to enter, repelled his companions and broke the gate activators, bringing them out into the frozen landscape of Valrindor.

Journey through Valrindor

Eira and Lythariel reached Ashenford, where Eira learned the language, studied maps and explored the library. They showed Victor their darkness magic in exchange for support, then left at night to avoid his further plans for them. Eira wanted to return to Xalmyrra, but she and Lythariel avoided the gates for fear that Jareth and his companions would return.

Silas visited them and revealed that he was a shaper. He explained that he had implanted Eira's heart outside the temple and that darkness magic had not existed in Xalmyrra before she introduced it. Eira feared that Lythariel was only a creation of the shard. She defended her mentor's life, healed Lythariel's wounded palm with life magic and affirmed their love.

They continued through Vintergard, Kaldspire and Skarnheim. In Kaldspire, Svanhild detected their unfamiliar essence and learned how Eira had acquired her darkness magic. She let them continue. Eira still searched for routes home and for information about the powers guiding her.

Visions and captivity

Eira entered visions of the God Realm, where she saw Ozaith, Pyrathalor, Nahm and Hrzai. The gods mistook her for a goddess. Eira withheld her identity and learned about their plans, including their interest in Thalena. Her body remained in Valrindor.

Three shadows took Eira from an inn in Rimvold while she slept. They brought her to Atraxis Prime and Jorhan. Eira initially thought she could leave, but she had no safe route through the void. Eshmir rescued her after she plunged into a river to wake from what she thought was a dream. Jorhan's disciples guarded and studied her, while the heart protected her from the shard's drain.

Jorhan wanted Eira to become his wielder and find a way to sustain the atraxi. By examining the town's essence tower, Eira understood that towers across Xalmyrra, Xolterra and Valrindor drained essence through the void to feed Atraxis Prime. The Temple of no Return also served as a void gate. She demanded that Jorhan remove Xalmyrra's storms and darkness. He promised to do so if she found a solution and withdrew the offer if she left. Eira agreed to stay and work with Amos and Jareth so that she could free her home.

She worried that naming Arcanis had endangered her friends and that Lythariel would come looking for her. She also wanted to find Xelthys to understand the powers guiding her.

Abilities

Eira can find hidden artifacts, read unusual texts and see doors and mechanisms that others cannot perceive. She retained these senses after severing the spiral shard. They allow her to find routes through gates and detect concealed instructions inside artifacts.

She inherited divine and temporal magic from her parents, but Hrzai restricted it while she carried the spiral shard. Hrzai has released those powers and ended the visions that accompanied Eira's life. Kaelion helps her control temporal magic, while Rhalyn offers divine instruction.

The spiral shard formerly gave her darkness and life magic. She formed tendrils for travel and combat, cast disintegration beams and released waves of darkness. At the Soltheris border, the shard drained the lives of soldiers and turned their essence into vegetation. Eira lost its magic and most of her essence when she severed her connection to it. The Heart of Oblivion, a Malverand heart implanted by Silas, still heals her injuries and sustained her while the shard consumed her life.

Severing the spiral

Xelthys instructed Eira to sever her connection to the spiral. She cut off her shard hand with a disintegration blade and lost most of her essence. She could no longer use darkness magic, but she could still perceive hidden mechanisms. She hid in a closet so that Jorhan's guards would not detect her.

Eshmir offered to reattach the hand and let Eira follow Jorhan home. Eira instead asked her to leave with her and offered protection in Xalmyrra. After finding the Dravemir and Aethrendar gates destroyed, Eshmir accepted and carried her through the void. Eira gave her severed hand to Aldar. Ilyra restored Eira's hand, while the spiral bonded with Aldar.

During the fighting against Jorhan, Eshmir protected Eira and stopped Thalena's sword from killing Jorhan. Zayren ferried them through the battle. Eira reunited with Kaelion and returned to Zeydrith with him on an astragon.

Hrzai and the return to Irrathis

Hrzai revealed that she was Xelthys and that Eira's visions showed the god's travels. She released the magic Eira had inherited from her parents and stopped the visions. Eira began learning to use divine and temporal magic. Kaelion helped steady her uncontrolled temporal power, and Rhalyn offered to teach her.

Eira reunited with Lirien, who had returned to Council work after her disappearance in the temple. She also returned to Irrathis with Kaelion and met her parents and Thalena there. She learned that Thalena had been using the name Arcanis and recognized her as the author of The Eleven Stories of Old. Lythariel decided to travel with Silas and learn who she was beyond her role as Eira's protector.

Hrzai joined Eira's palm as her god. Eira left Xalmyrra with Kaelion, Astheron, Rhalyn, Khoradyn and Splin to travel to Valrindor.

  • Eshmir: Jorhan's disciple who comforted Eira during her captivity and carried her home. Eira offered her safety in Xalmyrra despite the attacks by the atraxi.
  • Hrzai: Her god and the golden mage Xelthys who guided her upbringing. Hrzai sent her visions and restricted her inherited powers, then released them after Eira severed the spiral.
  • Rhalyn: Offered to teach Eira divine magic after Hrzai released her powers. She accompanied Eira and Kaelion on their journey to Valrindor.

Eira Caedris is a scholar from Irrathis, the daughter of Deylin and Ilyra and the partner of Kaelion. She formerly wielded the Spiral Shard and is now Hrzai's wielder. She travels through Valrindor with Kaelion and their companions and has joined the Order.

Appearance

Eira has long dark amber hair, green eyes flecked with gold and pale skin. Her body became stronger and leaner after she took the spiral shard. Before that, she had blond hair and wore practical clothes for her Council expeditions. Lythariel provided her with robes of purple and silver after the temple mission. She later kept the black robes Jorhan gave her on Atraxis Prime.

Personality

Eira enjoys books and the discovery of old records and artifacts. She wanted to become a scholar like Deylin and found Aldar's restrictions on her work frustrating. She asks questions about the places she visits and searches their libraries even when her companions want to concentrate on returning home. Her curiosity led her to examine the unfamiliar gates and mechanisms she found in Valrindor.

She becomes attached to the people who teach and protect her. After the temple mission, she missed Lirien, relied on Lythariel and wanted to understand why her parents left her in an orphanage. She tried to stop Aurion and Xarion fighting and blamed herself for the deaths when her shard overwhelmed their armies. Cassian and Lythariel reassured her that the destruction had escaped her control.

Kaelion helps her control temporal magic, while Hrzai and Rhalyn teach her divine magic. She makes divine barriers and enchants her hands and body for combat. She practiced fighting Jin and learned enchantments and shields from Garrik while training with the Order.

History

Childhood and Council work

Eira was born to Deylin and Ilyra in Erenmyr. Deylin had come from Earth, while Ilyra was a healer. Hrzai, appearing as the golden mage Xelthys, persuaded them to let their daughter grow up in Irrathis, where Aldar and the Council would prepare her to end Xalmyrra's cycles. Hrzai infused part of herself into Eira as an infant, restricted her inherited magic and sent the visions that followed her childhood.

The shard began consuming her life. Silas found her and implanted the Heart of Oblivion to keep her alive.

Eira created Lythariel and introduced darkness magic to Xalmyrra while struggling to survive. The shard altered Xalmyrra and gave its inhabitants memories of Lythariel's life. Lythariel found and sheltered her and taught her to concentrate and control her darkness magic. When Deylin arranged their return to Irrathis, Aldar described a different mission. In the final Xalmyrran cycle, he had sent Hrzai posing as Eira to Lythenmere, while Kaelion and Lirien went to the temple. Lirien entered alone while Kaelion waited outside for days. She did not return.

While Eira remained inside the temple, Deylin crossed into the final Xalmyrran cycle. Hrzai, appearing as the golden mage, told him to repeat his life without having another child.

The Heart of Oblivion healed Eira while Lythariel carried her through the void.

The Order and Maraveth

Eira traveled through Keldara and Thundermarch with Kaelion and their companions. She listened to Khoradyn's history of the region and questioned Hrzai about Malverand and the spiral. She joined Jin's journey through eastern Valrindor and helped look for Isrynn.

During the march through Shroudvale, Eira sensed the concealed ruins of Maraveth. She also detected the danger around them and enchanted Garrik's men for the battle. Jin carried her out of the fighting. She helped heal the wounded afterward and sought help for Kaelion's injuries.

Garrik invited her into the Order and its concealed work. Eira accepted and trained with him, Jin and Kaelion. Hrzai advised her on divine magic while Kaelion taught her temporal control. Garrik appointed her the Order's loremaster and sent her to research ancient history in Valrindor's major cities.

The archives of eastern Valrindor

Astryx gave the group a windweaver for their travels. Eira used the journey to visit archives, including those in Linzheng, Durakarn, Borovia, Drozhvenya and Kyranthos.

The Kyranthos records revealed that Dorian and Rowenna, Cassian's parents, had founded Kyranthos and become the first diarchs of Morozkaya. Eira also identified Xarion as Thalion. She, Kaelion and Jin kept their findings private and planned to consult Thalena. In Jazarel, Eira met Astheron, who defeated her in a practice duel. She then helped the officials maintain the arena's barriers while he fought Jin and Kaelion. The group continued toward Kaldaryn.

She was missing when Eira returned from the temple. They reunited after Lirien returned to Council work.
  • Lythariel: Her darkness teacher and protector, whom Eira created with the shard. Lythariel sheltered her after the temple and traveled with her through Xalmyrra, Xolterra and Valrindor. Eira defended her life after learning how she had been made.
  • Deylin and Ilyra: Her parents, who gave her to Xelthys for the plan against the cycles. Deylin guided her discoveries without revealing their relationship and rescued her from the battlefield. Ilyra healed her and later regrew Eira's missing hand.
  • Aldar: The Council head who supervised her upbringing and work. Eira resented some of his restrictions but continued seeking his explanations and support. She gave him her severed spiral hand when she returned from Atraxis Prime.
She later identified him as Thalion through the Kyranthos records.
  • Silas: The shaper who took her to Aurion and implanted the Heart of Oblivion outside the temple. He later explained the heart's origin and her creation of Lythariel and introduction of darkness magic to Xalmyrra.
  • Jorhan: The atraxi god who held her on Atraxis Prime and wanted her as his wielder. Eira escaped by severing her connection to the spiral and leaving with Eshmir.
  • Jin Leiyun and Garrik: Her companions and combat teachers in the Order. Jin carried her out of the Maraveth fighting; Garrik invited her into the Order and taught her enchantments and shields.

Eira Caedris is a scholar and mage from Irrathis, the daughter of Deylin and Ilyra and the partner of Kaelion. She formerly wielded the Spiral Shard and is now Hrzai's wielder. As Aruviel, she worked with Arcanis in the Malverand Empire, helped develop Malverine and piloted the expedition to Vireen. Her journeys through timerifts took her into Valrindor's ancient past, where she lived for centuries before returning to her companions.

Appearance

Eira has long golden hair and teal eyes. She has worn the black robes Jorhan gave her on Atraxis Prime. Before taking the spiral shard, she had blond hair and green eyes. The shard changed her hair to dark amber, and golden flecks appeared in her eyes. Her hair gradually brightened again during her later training.

Personality

Eira searches libraries, ruins and unfamiliar places for information. She asks persistent questions even when her companions want to leave, and she follows discoveries herself when the answers given by teachers and rulers are insufficient. Her wish to become a scholar began during her Council work; it later led her to engineering, piloting and the study of Malverand's gates.

She readily comforts and heals others. She defended Lythariel's life after learning how she had been created and tried to stop Aurion and Xarion fighting. She blamed herself for the armies' destruction when the spiral overwhelmed her. She enjoys teasing her friends, but her centuries away from them still trouble her.

Abilities

Eira's origin magic lets her perceive hidden doors, instructions and the internal construction of bodies and artifacts. She retained these senses after losing the spiral shard. They allow her to examine gates and Malverand technology, detect concealed essence signatures and open mechanisms that other mages cannot operate. Abraxas taught her origin motions while they crossed the lost passage beneath Thundermarch.

She combines rapid blinking with enchanted physical blows and divine shields. Her healing can restore severe injuries and severed limbs, while her temporal magic allows her to suspend bodies and preserve separated shard hands. She designed the long stasis in the Maraveth vault and maintained it during periodic awakenings. Her Malverand heart repairs injuries and kept her alive while the spiral drained her.

The spiral shard formerly gave her darkness and life magic, including tendrils for travel, combat and healing. Its uncontrolled power could drain armies and rewrite people's memories. She lost those powers when she severed its connection. Hrzai later released her inherited divine and temporal magic and taught her to use it. She can preserve Hrzai in her severed shard hand under temporal stasis and regrow her own hand. She used that arrangement during her centuries as Aruviel.

History

Childhood and the spiral shard

Eira was born to Deylin and Ilyra in Erenmyr. Deylin came from Earth, while Ilyra was a Valrindorian healer. Hrzai, appearing as the golden mage Xelthys, persuaded them to place their daughter in Irrathis so that the Xalmyrran Council could prepare her to end Xalmyrra's cycles. Hrzai infused part of herself into Eira as an infant, restricted her inherited magic and sent the visions that accompanied her childhood.

Eira grew up in an orphanage under Aldar's supervision and attended Irrathis Magic School, where she befriended Cassian. Lirien raised and taught her, then took her on Council expeditions for twelve years. Eira was a weak combat mage but could find hidden objects and open unusual doors. Many of the texts and artifacts she found had been placed by Deylin on the golden mage's instructions.

In the previous Xalmyrran cycle, she went on a mission with Lirien and Kaelion into the Land of Darkness, found the Heart of Oblivion and reached the Temple of no Return. The first door disappeared when Lirien opened it. Eira entered through a second door invisible to her companions and claimed the spiral shard. She emerged alone with darkness magic, but the shard began consuming her life. Silas found her outside the temple and implanted the Heart of Oblivion to keep her alive.

As she struggled to survive, Eira used the shard's power to create Lythariel, a mentor who could protect and teach her, and introduced darkness magic to Xalmyrra. This altered Xalmyrra and gave its people memories of Lythariel's life. Lythariel found Eira, sheltered her and taught her to control her new magic. Deylin arranged their return to Irrathis.

While Eira remained inside the temple in the previous Xalmyrran cycle, Deylin crossed into the final Xalmyrran cycle. Hrzai, appearing as the golden mage, instructed him to repeat his life without having another child and took Eira's place. The two courses of Xalmyrra later merged, restoring memories of the earlier lives. During the Irrathis tournament, Kaelion's illusions also recovered his memories of their shared mission.

War and departure from Xalmyrra

When Aurion and Xarion faced one another at the Soltheris border, Eira tried to stop them fighting. The spiral shard's power escaped her control. Darkness overwhelmed both sides, killed most of their armies and converted the drained life into new vegetation. The orrery collapsed under the force. Deylin blinked in, took Eira away and carried her to Erenmyr on Glin.

The disciples of Jorhan pursued her. Cassian and Lythariel helped her escape west through Valcirae, where Orin stayed to defend the city. During their flight, Cassian told her that Deylin and Ilyra were her parents. The three crossed into Xolterra, where Kaelion caught up with them on Splin.

Eira searched Thalcoris for information about Arcanis, The Eleven Stories of Old and the influence over Kaelion. While she and Lythariel searched for him near Xalatun, Zayren struck her with aether magic and tore through her chest. Lythariel fought Zayren and Razen, carried her to a gate and took her through the void to Valrindor. The Malverand heart healed her during the void journey.

Valrindor and captivity

Eira and Lythariel stayed in Ashenford, where Eira learned the local language and researched a route home. She helped Victor animate his constructs with darkness magic in exchange for support, then left with Lythariel at night to avoid his further plans for them. Outside Ashenford she summoned Silas with the orb he had given her. He accompanied them through Vintergard toward Skarnheim.

Silas explained that Eira had created Lythariel and introduced darkness magic to Xalmyrra through the shard. Eira accepted Lythariel as a real person and promised to care for her. Their roles changed as Eira began protecting the mentor who had protected her. In Kaldspire, Eira showed her magic to Svanhild and received permission to continue south.

In Rimvold, Jorhan drew Eira into a vision while Eshmir, Jareth and Amos took her through a gate to Atraxis Prime. Jorhan sought her help in sustaining the atraxi and wanted her as his wielder. He offered to let her leave, but delayed his answers and kept her under Eshmir's supervision. By examining the town's essence tower, Eira understood that towers across her world were draining essence through the void to feed Atraxis Prime. She agreed to work with Amos and Jareth in exchange for Jorhan removing Xalmyrra's storms and darkness if they found a solution. The shard continued draining her; the Heart of Oblivion kept her alive. She also entered visions of the God Realm and overheard the gods' plans against Thalassai.

Following Xelthys's instructions, Eira cut off the hand containing the spiral shard with a disintegration blade. She lost most of her essence and her darkness and life magic, but retained her unusual senses. She persuaded Eshmir to take her back to Xalmyrra so they could find Jorhan. At Irrathis, Eira gave the severed hand to Aldar, and Ilyra regenerated her missing hand. The shard bonded with Aldar.

Zayren carried Eira and Eshmir to the battle at Dravemir. Eira reunited with Kaelion, while Eshmir escaped with Jorhan. Hrzai subsequently disclosed that she was Xelthys, freed Eira's inherited divine and temporal magic and ended her visions. Eira became her wielder. In Irrathis, she reunited with her parents and both mentors and met Thalena. She learned that Thalena had been using the name Arcanis and recognized her as the author of The Eleven Stories of Old. Eira then left for Valrindor with Kaelion, Khoradyn, Rhalyn and Astheron.

The Order and Maraveth

Eira learned divine magic from Hrzai and Rhalyn and temporal magic from Kaelion and Isrynn. She accompanied Garrik's forces into Maraveth, where her senses found a deep chamber beneath its central tower and warned the group of approaching enemies. During the battle against Eremion and Blackcrag's skyships, she enchanted Garrik's mages and treated wounded soldiers behind the lines. Jin carried her out of the city, and she remained with the army during the stalemate.

Seeking the history Garrik had withheld, she agreed to join the Order of Thalion Zenith with Kaelion and Jin. Garrik explained its work against Malverand's immortals and its secrecy. He trained Eira in enchantments and shields and appointed her the Order's loremaster, while she continued practicing with Hrzai and her companions.

Astryx gave them a windweaver for their journey through southern Valrindor. Eira searched the archives of the cities they visited. In Kyranthos she found that Dorian and Rowenna, Cassian's parents, had founded the city and become the first diarchs of Morozkaya. With Kaelion and Jin, she connected the ancient records to the disappearance of their companions and identified Xarion as Thalion. They kept the discovery private and planned to speak with Thalena.

Varnhallow

Thalena trained Eira in Chronasis before the expedition to Varnhallow, repeatedly forcing her to heal herself and resume their fights. She taught her timerifts and the temporal heartbeat spell. Eira entered Varnhallow's tournament under the name Arcanis, attracting Michael's attention. Michael accepted her, Kaelion and Jin as patriarchs; Eira and Kaelion served in Halcyra for years while she continued learning temporal and divine magic. Eira invited Michael into the Order and gave him The Legacy of Thalion Zenith.

She learned that Hrzai was a manufactured god core rather than a goddess born from belief as she had claimed. Eira used temporal magic to carve openings in Varnhallow's boundary. She let Kazehiro, Kaelion and Jin leave, but Horol'Khai stopped her following them and pushed her through a different opening. She emerged in Valrindor's ancient past, before Varnhallow existed.

Aruviel and the Vireen expedition

An essence wisp followed Eira and learned from her. She found shelter with Moranna in Zarephon, where the wisp took the form of a young boy resembling her and chose the name Orin. Eira had asked it to avoid making an exact copy of her. She taught him divine magic and later asked an astragon to take him south.

At the source lake, Eira used divine shields to enter the water and widened the source. She received messages about Barachiel, the destroyer and home, but an approaching red line disrupted her divine magic. She traveled to Ashenford in 1401 BX and used the name Aruviel while studying its records. Arcanis recognized the unusual instructions she could perceive and made her his assistant.

Eira taught divine magic, learned engineering and piloting, proposed the Morozkaya gate and helped Arcanis and Eremion redesign Malverine. She preserved Hrzai in her severed hand under temporal stasis, regrew the hand and used the god's power only as needed. Eremion courted her and invited her to Morindel. They married while she waited for a way back to Kaelion.

As the Vireen expedition's main pilot, Eira worked with Dhalvor and supplied hair for the enchanted hull. The expedition established its colony and opened its gate in 1011 BX. Eremion crossed from Valrindor, and a red line struck him as he left. Barachiel arrived without his shard before the gate failed. Eira could not heal him; he later dissolved, leaving his Malverand heart.

Arcanis arrived fractured and dying. His gate designs had used Eira's temporal instructions, and he acknowledged her as his successor before dissolving. She retained his heart and geometric core. After Dhalvor killed two atraxi over Barachiel's disappearance, Eira tried to heal their bodies. She left Vireen alone with the bodies and the gate, leaving a hidden message. The force of her skyship's takeoff destroyed nearby buildings.

Eira implanted the two retained hearts into the dead atraxi and restarted them with Thalena's heartbeat spell and divine essence. They became Belanor and Jareth. She carried Belanor into the void and hurled him toward a distant gate. She then placed Arcanis's geometric core in Jareth's pockets and hurled him after Belanor before powering down her gate.

Earth and the long return

Back in Valrindor, Eira spent years finding the timerift near Lirathen and eighteen days adjusting it. She concealed a gate in an excavated cave and sank her protected skyship into Lake Velisyth, then crossed to Earth. In ancient Greece, Abraxas found her and brought Thalion to her. She arranged their return with Ozaith to Valrindor in 2114 AX.

The group excavated Thundermarch's lost passage, where Abraxas taught Eira origin motions. Crossing Jorhan's darkness veil stripped Abraxas of his memories and power. Eira and Thalion met Isandriel, asked him to claim that he had created the passage and to conceal their meeting. They took Abraxas south and found Kaelion in Stormbrook. Five years had passed for him and six centuries for Eira. She admitted she had not remained faithful; Kaelion forgave her, and they resumed their relationship.

Varnhallow was being broken from outside, making entry unsafe. Eira and Thalion instead chose the Maraveth vault for the return to their own time. Igor and John helped excavate it, and Eira opened it using the instructions in her heart. She built a powered stasis system, preserving the travelers' bodies and keeping their severed shard hands in separate cases. She recognized that the signatures she had sensed during the earlier siege were their own.

Eira stayed awake with Thalion for his remaining tasks before putting them both into stasis. Ozaith remained awake and woke her every five centuries to maintain the system. He woke her finally in 5369 AX, while the others remained suspended.

Relationships

  • Kaelion: Eira's partner and temporal teacher. They became close during their Council mission and resumed their relationship after her return from six centuries in the past. He forgave her for not remaining faithful during that absence.
  • Deylin and Ilyra: Her parents. They surrendered her to Xelthys for the plan against Xalmyrra's cycles and watched her upbringing from a distance. Eira learned their identities during her flight west. Deylin repeatedly protected her, while Ilyra regrew Eira's missing hand.
  • Lirien and Aldar: Lirien raised Eira, taught her and accompanied her on twelve years of Council expeditions. Aldar supervised her upbringing and work. Eira regards Lirien as a mother and Aldar as the closest father she knew while growing up.
  • Lythariel: Eira created Lythariel from the spiral shard's power as a protector and mentor. Learning this did not diminish Eira's love for her. They traveled together through Xalmyrra and Valrindor, and Eira later accepted Lythariel's wish to explore with Silas and find her own place in the world.
  • Hrzai: Her god and the golden mage Xelthys who guided her upbringing. Hrzai restricted her inherited magic, then released it after Eira severed the spiral. Eira learned divine magic from her. During her centuries as Aruviel, Eira kept Hrzai in stasis inside her own severed shard hand.
  • Arcanis and Eremion: Eira worked as Aruviel beside Arcanis and helped develop his language and technology. He acknowledged her as his successor before his death. Eremion courted and married her during her stay in ancient Malverand; she returned to Kaelion after centuries apart.
  • Thalion: Eira discovered his earlier identity through the Kyranthos records. They kissed on Earth and kept their intimacy between them. She traveled with him to Valrindor and helped arrange the group's return through stasis.
  • Cassian: Her friend from Irrathis Magic School. He helped protect her during the tournament and her flight west and told her who her parents were.
  • Orin: The essence wisp that learned from Eira and took a boy's form resembling her. She taught him before sending him south with the astragon.
  • Belanor and Jareth: The atraxi Eira revived with the hearts left by Barachiel and Arcanis. She also gave Jareth Arcanis's geometric core.
  • Abraxas: Her origin teacher and a companion from Earth. She and Thalion brought him to Valrindor, where the darkness veil took his memories and powers. Eira included him in the Maraveth stasis.

Eira has long golden hair and teal eyes. She wears the navy and silver robes of Chronasis.

She defended Lythariel's life after learning how she had been created, cared for Xarion during his recovery and spared Eliona after defeating her. She also punishes people who hurt her companions: she tore off Azarion's arms after his treatment of Splin and required Raphael's death as part of an agreement to close the source.

Abraxas taught her origin motions, which she later practiced as red discharges strong enough to break a tree.

Her Malverand heart has become integrated into her body, repairs injuries and prevents her from aging.

Eira no longer has Hrzai's power; the shard left after the god's death is inert.

She left Vireen alone with the bodies and the gate, leaving a hidden memorial to Arcanis and Barachiel.

He woke her finally in 5369 AX. With Brynor, Lysander and Ozaith, Eira then released the group, restarted their hearts and helped restore their original shard hands. The long suspension had depleted their essence and left them unable to move normally.

The source and the intergalactic empire

Eira cared for Abraxas and for Xarion, who had been injured and traumatized in Ulzathir. When Azarion attacked Kaldaryn, she stayed with Astrid to heal its citizens. Later, she confronted Azarion and Eliona over Isrynn, Kaldaryn and Splin. She defeated Azarion, tore off his arms for hurting Splin and sealed his wounds before allowing them to regenerate. She also stopped Myrelia from attacking Kaelion.

Eliona asked for the source to be closed. Eira required Raphael's death in exchange and negotiated the surrender of Eliona's shard. Eira, Kaelion and Xarion descended to the source while Nero remained above. She examined and synchronized the spell as Ozaith altered its opening. When the mountain collapsed, she chose to escape through the source and aligned the passage to the world on its other side. They left a small opening as their route home.

The passage brought them into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire. Eira registered as Eira Chronoshaper and received limited access under Isandro's advisors. She practiced adjusting her divine shields against his nanite attacks and examined the particles used in the empire's technology.

On Vireen, Eira found the memorial she had left and confirmed that her ancient expedition had reached the same planet. She visited Novaris on Meridian and studied its obelisks. Kaelion activated one and was injured; Eira healed him. During the fighting in Proxion she remained aboard the ship while Kaelion and Xarion acted outside. Isandro honored all three afterward. Eira piloted their custom ship back, with Xarion and Ozaith opening the veil to their Valrindor.

Hrzai's death and Chronasis

On returning, Eira learned that Aldar had died. During the battle against Gabriel, she helped unmake him while Garrik held her in place; Azarion delivered the final blow. Eira then defended Azarion and demanded that the others hear him. She healed Jin and Zayren, spared Eliona and severed Eliona's shard hand. Eira reversed her stasis spell on the severed hand, turning it to dust and exposing the core. She asked Xoh'Tenol to rescue Eliona and treated her afterward.

In the Chronasis gate chamber, Alistair appeared as Astryx and forced the gods into human bodies. He ordered Cassian to sever their connections to the God Realm. Hrzai offered herself to prevent further deaths. Eira protested, and Alistair shot her through the chest; Ilyra healed her while Deylin supported her. Alistair killed Hrzai. He spared Eira's shard, which had become a dead object.

Eira helped Thalena restrain Kaelion while Thalena implanted Eremion's Malverand heart. She apologized afterward, knowing he would have resisted. When Kaelion and Xoh'Tenol later suffered a joint vision, Eira healed Xoh'Tenol and brought them to Thalena and Nethira for help. She waited while Thalena, Jin and Nethira removed Kaelion's solar core.

Eira retrieved the extended Malverine language book she had written with Arcanis and gave it to Thalena. She planned further travel with Kaelion through Valrindor and the intergalactic empire. Thalena intercepted them near Brahzûn before their journey to the obelisks and the Ithyreon mission. Eira returned to Chronasis with Kaelion, Xoh'Tenol and Splin and read Thalena's Shores of Eternity.

Thalena's account

In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, Eira investigated the artificial treasure island and entered its obelisk chamber. She disappeared while Kaelion and Xoh'Tenol remained near the entrance.

Relationships

  • Kaelion: Eira's partner and temporal teacher. They became close during their Council mission and resumed their relationship after her return from six centuries in the past. He forgave her for not remaining faithful during that absence. She helps him seek treatment when she cannot heal him herself, and they continue planning new journeys together.
  • Deylin and Ilyra: Her parents. They surrendered her to Xelthys for the plan against Xalmyrra's cycles and watched her upbringing from a distance. Eira learned their identities during her flight west. Deylin repeatedly protected her, while Ilyra regrew Eira's missing hand and later healed her after Alistair shot her.
  • Lirien and Aldar: Lirien raised Eira, taught her and accompanied her on twelve years of Council expeditions. Aldar supervised her upbringing and work. Eira regards Lirien as a mother and Aldar as the closest father she knew while growing up; she mourned Aldar after returning from the intergalactic empire.
  • Cassian: Her friend from Irrathis Magic School, whom she regards as a younger brother. He helped her escape Jorhan's disciples and told her who her parents were. Their later affection and teasing retain that closeness.
  • Hrzai: Her former god and divine teacher, also known as Xelthys. Hrzai guided her childhood, restricted and later released her inherited magic, and accompanied her into the past. Eira tried to stop her sacrifice to Alistair.
  • Thalena: Her friend and temporal teacher. Thalena trained Eira before Varnhallow and taught the heartbeat spell she used to revive the two atraxi. Eira seeks her understanding of the centuries she spent alone and promised to return to her with Kaelion.
  • Xarion: Her friend and traveling companion, also known as Thalion. Eira found his name in ancient records and later traveled with him. They kissed on Earth and kept their intimacy between them. Eira cared for him after Ulzathir, and he accompanied her through the source and the intergalactic empire.
  • Arcanis and Eremion: Arcanis employed her as Aruviel, studied Malverand technology with her and acknowledged her as his successor. Eremion courted and married her during her years in the empire. Their work together included redesigning Malverine and preparing the Vireen expedition.
  • Orin, Brynor and Jareth: Eira taught Orin after the wisp took human form. She later revived the two atraxi who became Belanor and Jareth, giving Jareth Arcanis's geometric core. Belanor is also known as Brynor; Eira comforted Mirael after his disappearance and wanted him recovered.
  • Abraxas: Her origin teacher and companion on the journey from Earth. She helped bring him through Thundermarch after he lost his memories and cared for him again following the Maraveth awakening.
