Malverand Intergalactic Empire

Overview

The Malverand Intergalactic Empire is an advanced imperial polity in the Hyperion Spiral, ruled by Emperor Isandro from Maraveth on Valrindor. It is active in 5368-5369 AX and controls a compact imperial sphere amid surrounding non-imperial governments.

In 5369 AX, the empire faces Thalena's void warning, the Zarephon breach, and the Spiral Mandate attack on Proxion.

Territory and Systems

The empire has charted distant galaxies and fully controls seven systems within a relatively small region of the Hyperion Spiral. Systems beyond those seven belong to races and governments outside Malverand. Valrindor is the imperial homeworld, Maraveth is the capital, and Chronasis, Zarephon, and Zeydrith are imperial locations on the same world.

Worlds and systems in or near the imperial sphere include Atraxis Prime Omega, Vireen, Corthis, the Tyrren system, the Hyperion system, the Proxion system, Callisto, Oberon, and Amalthea. Earth is a restricted observation world, with contact forbidden except under approved research conditions.

The Spiral Mandate attacks the Proxion system, and the empire sends an evacuation order across every planet in the system. Later chart data places Proxion about 313 light-years from the Valrindor system, and Draxil's rich Kytherite deposits supply material for core replacement and energy production.

Technology and Society

The empire is technologically dense and essence-poor. Magic users are rare, ancient gates and magical clothing survive as relics, and most magic users live in Zarephon. High-essence visitors from the essence-rich Valrindor must limit their magic because their essence can damage imperial systems.

Imperial cities use holograms, wrist devices, scanners, self-opening doors, trains, skybridges, public broadcasts, lasers, starports, warpships, and autonomous machines. Malverand particle and nanite systems handle communication, shielding, defense, navigation, spell-like effects, and tasks handled through magic in the essence-rich Valrindor.

The red core beneath Isandro's palace tracks official ships, directs communications, manages evacuation logistics, feeds weapons research and production, and sends protected cabling into cities and autonomous systems.

The core can use the empire's copied spells. Essence contamination can push a core toward sentience, so Isandro's circle relies on shielding, stabilization, and strict limits on essence exposure.

Government and Power

Isandro rules as emperor. His closest advisors include Rafe and Eamon. Local overseers such as Bruno administer imperial jurisdictions. Officers, guards, medics, scientists, researchers, and system operators carry out imperial authority through scanners, wrist devices, public alerts, security forces, and the Maraveth Core.

Through the Maraveth Core, Isandro sends evacuation orders, tracks ships, guides navigation, directs weapons production, and manages communications across imperial space. Shutting down the core would strand Proxion's evacuation and disable ship guidance, communications, weapons production, and core-operated city machinery. Essence contamination can destabilize machines cabled into the core. The Spiral Mandate fears the empire's spells and technology. Spiral Mandate stealth attacks on Proxion evade imperial detection and weapons.

History

Before Thalena's arrival, the empire is already old enough that magic has faded into rarity and ancient gates are preserved as relics. Atraxi survivors live under imperial protection on Atraxis Prime Omega. They share selected breakthroughs and keep much of their gate knowledge hidden.

Thalena first reaches the empire through a gate in a Chronasis museum. Imperial systems flag her ancient-style clothing and impossible readings, then she meets Amos in a Valrindor-like world with familiar names, altered history, altered geography, advanced technology, and lower ambient essence.

In 5369 AX, Thalena / Helena Hyperion reaches Maraveth as an essence-made copy and flies toward Isandro's palace to deliver her warning about the others trapped in the void. Rafe shoots her before recognizing her. The body is a pure-essence copy, and the original Thalena remains trapped in the void. Amos tracks the disintegrating essence toward Zarephon. Mike and Rafe capture the remaining particles in a capsule. The breach lies at the bottom of Zarephon's lake.

The surge widens the Zarephon rift and pushes excess essence into systems around the breach. Rafe and Mike send a low-essence black machine through the widened passage. Eamon goes to Zarephon, and Isandro manages Maraveth Core stabilization from the capital.

At Proxion, the Spiral Mandate attacks imperial worlds and bombards one of the system's suns. Isandro keeps the Maraveth Core running because evacuation, ship guidance, communications, and weapons production depend on it. He refuses a shutdown as essence threatens to destabilize the core.

Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion later emerge through the Zarephon breach after the mountain collapses around the source on their side. Their essence levels make them hazardous to nearby imperial systems, so Isandro, Rafe, Eamon, Mike, and Amos place limits on their magic and give them essence-containing clothing and devices. Isandro grants the three limited advisor access, studies their bodies and powers, and sends them on separate missions: Eira and Kaelion travel with Isandro and Mike toward Vireen and Vespera, and Xarion travels with Rafe to Earth. Isandro and Mike compare Malverand particle systems with altered abilities from the other Valrindor, including Abraxas's void-like powers.

An earlier core intelligence broke its controls and was expelled through the palace gate into the void. In 5369 AX, Amos encounters the void-bound entity while trying to retrieve Thalena's group.
