Overview
Tequaltor Magic School is a training institution in Tequaltor, formerly called Tequaltor War School. Tazarin sends Eira, Kaelion, Cassian, and Lythariel there to learn Tenari ways under Razen and Amaril. The school trains Tenari in combat and magic, hosts public duels, and keeps the library where Eira researches Thalassai, the Wanderer, and The Eleven Stories of Old.
Layout
The school stands among Tequaltor's golden-stone buildings, near the city's central pyramid and close to nearby homes. Its grounds include a large main building, small arenas, open training spaces, classrooms, dueling grounds, a courtyard, and a library.
The dueling grounds are reached through an archway carved with flowing water and fire. The library contains towering shelves, old books, a concealed room for neglected texts, and a version of The Eleven Stories of Old.
School Life
Razen teaches at the school and commands the Tenari army. His lessons cover Thalcoris history, Xolterra geography, resonance magic, dual magic, the Tenari view of the false war around Xalatun, and Thalcoris's history with Xalmyrra. Amaril is the school's head librarian, a respected teacher, and a trusted healer.
Students include both children and adults. They attend lessons, spar, watch public demonstrations, and train under protective barriers raised by divine mages. Moon priestesses sometimes visit the school, and their resonance singing stops activity around them.
History
Before Eira's group arrives, Jin Leiyun spends several weeks in Tequaltor. He duels Razen, Ziyara, and Zayren, studies in the city's libraries, copies another edition of The Eleven Stories of Old, and gives it to Amaril in the Tequaltor War School library.
During the visitors' stay in Tequaltor, they return to the school each day for instruction, training, duels, and research. Cassian and Kaelion both duel Razen there. Eira uses the library to research Thalcoris, Thalassai, Xalmyrra, and the Wanderer's writings.
When the long-running control over the Tenari breaks, the school is affected along with the rest of Tequaltor. Fallen students lie near the training arena. Amaril moves among them with weakened divine healing. By the later recovery period, Tenari usage has shifted from Tequaltor War School to Tequaltor Magic School.
