Overview

Jareth is one of three hooded people who met Lythariel and the injured Eira in the void. He offered Lythariel two metal devices for their safety. She fled the group and broke both devices, which carried her and Eira out of the void to an unfamiliar land.

Overview

Jareth is a researcher working with Amos under Jorhan in Atraxis Prime. The two developed much of the settlement's machinery and work to preserve their people.

History

Jareth met Lythariel and the injured Eira in the void and offered them two metal devices. Lythariel broke the devices after fleeing the group, and they carried her and Eira out of the void.

Jareth and Amos later confronted Silas and Deylin, demanding that they surrender Eira. Jareth used air and ice magic against them. Both researchers crushed metal devices and vanished, leaving behind a device that Deylin collected.

After Eira was taken to Atraxis Prime, Jareth met her with Amos and Eshmir. Jorhan proposed that she work with the researchers to find a way to save their people.

Relationships

  • Amos: His fellow researcher in Atraxis Prime. They pursued Eira together.
  • Jorhan: His leader in Atraxis Prime, who assigned Eira to work with the researchers.

Overview

Jareth is an atraxi scientist working with Amos under Jorhan in Atraxis Prime. They developed gate activators and built much of the atraxi settlement after adapting their technology to essence.

History

Migration to Xalmyrra

Jareth and Amos maintained the gate through which the atraxi escaped the destruction of Atraxis Prime Alpha. They arrived above the Aethrendar Sea and settled in Xalmyrra. The new world lacked the materials needed for their former technology, so the researchers began rebuilding their machinery with essence. Jareth travelled through Malverand with Kheran, building essence towers.

With Belanor's temporal magic, Jareth and Amos created devices that stored the spell needed to activate a gate. They built Atraxis Prime and the Temple of No Return, where Jorhan placed the shard that restored Xalmyrra after each cycle of destruction. Jareth continued searching the void for other atraxi expeditions. He also spent time in Haverloch, influencing its symmetrical architecture, before illness forced him to return to Jorhan.

Eira

Jareth met Lythariel and the injured Eira in the void and offered them two metal devices. Lythariel broke them after fleeing the group, and they carried her and Eira out of the void. Jareth and Amos later confronted Silas and Deylin, demanding Eira's surrender before escaping with gate activators.

When Eira was held in Atraxis Prime, Jareth showed her the researchers' tools and explained their gate activators. He sometimes joined her sparring with Amos. He had argued for keeping her alive because she responded well to her shard. After she severed the hand containing her shard, he supported her demand to return to Xalmyrra and pressed Eshmir to take her.

Relationships

  • Amos: His longtime research partner. Together they rebuilt atraxi technology with essence and made the gate activators, Atraxis Prime and the Temple of No Return.
  • Jorhan: His leader, whose healing he needed after falling ill in Valrindor.
  • Eira: Studied the atraxi's tools and sparred with him while held in Atraxis Prime. He supported her escape after she severed the hand containing her shard.

Overview

Jareth is an atraxi scientist working in Chronasis after leaving Jorhan's service. He developed gate activators with Amos and is building trains with Cyrena. As Jarin Jassaro, he led Haverloch's council, organized the Axial Concord and redesigned Axanaxa.

Appearance

Jareth is tall, with angular features and dark streaked hair. When the atraxi illness weakened him, pale opalescent patches spread across his skin.

History

Atraxi technology

Jareth and Amos maintained the gate through which the atraxi escaped the destruction of Atraxis Prime Alpha. They arrived above the Aethrendar Sea and settled in Xalmyrra. The new world lacked the materials needed for their former technology, so the researchers rebuilt their machinery using essence. Jareth travelled through Malverand with Kheran, constructing essence towers and establishing contact with the guardians.

Using Belanor's temporal magic, Jareth and Amos developed devices that stored the spell needed to activate a gate. They also built Atraxis Prime and the Temple of No Return, where Jorhan placed the shard that restored Xalmyrra after each cycle of destruction. Jareth continued searching the void for other atraxi expeditions.

Jarin Jassaro

Centuries of making gate activators bored Jareth. With Amos covering his work, he left Atraxis Prime for Haverloch, where he introduced himself as Jarin Jassaro. The council accepted him, and he organized the Axial Concord. He redesigned Axanaxa around geometric symmetry and built engines for its transport. Nahm supported his work. Jareth also allied with Sylvia and the Order of Thalion Zenith against Malverand.

Isandriel recognized traces of Arcanis in him. Jareth had no memories of the guardian and gave Nahm the geometric core he had carried since arriving on Atraxis Prime Alpha. He preferred his own life to recovering an identity he did not remember.

As Jarin, he met young Helena, who later became Thalena, and accepted her into the Concord after testing her understanding of symmetry. His illness was worsening, and he expected to need Jorhan's healing. Helena used temporal magic to stabilize him. He brought her to Thalion in Rimvold and joined the Order's attack on Morindel. His air magic cut through buildings, and he carried Helena away from Eremion under Thalion's orders to return her safely.

Leaving Jorhan

When Eira was held in Atraxis Prime, Jareth showed her the researchers' tools, explained the gate activators and sometimes sparred with her. He had argued for keeping her alive because she responded well to her shard. After she severed the hand containing her shard, he supported her demand to return to Xalmyrra and pressed Eshmir to take her.

At Thalena's request, Jareth brought Isandriel's people to Atraxis Prime to attack the remaining atraxi while Jorhan was away. Isandriel healed his illness. Jareth then joined Thalena in Chronasis, where he could develop machinery beyond the work needed to keep the atraxi alive.

Work in Chronasis

Jareth operates Chronasis's gate and brought Jin Leiyun through the void to a gate north of Laizhou. His supply of gate activators is limited, and replacements take months to make.

He and Cyrena built a train prototype for Thalena. They prepared construction instructions for the legions laying its tracks, while Jareth worked on an essence engine for the full trains.

Relationships

  • Amos: Jareth's longtime research partner. Together they rebuilt atraxi technology with essence and made the gate activators, Atraxis Prime and the Temple of No Return.
  • Thalena: Met him as Helena in Haverloch, stabilized his illness and arranged his escape from Jorhan's service. He works with her in Chronasis.
  • Jorhan: His former leader. Jareth depended on Jorhan's healing before Isandriel treated him, then betrayed him and left Atraxis Prime.
  • Cyrena: His research partner in Chronasis. They are developing the trains and their tracks.

Overview

Jareth is an atraxi scientist working with Cyrena in Chronasis. He worked with Amos under Jorhan before joining Thalena. He developed gate activators, designed much of Axanaxa as Jarin Jassaro, and helped build the trains connecting Thalassai and Xalmyrra.

His body belonged to an atraxi killed on Vireen. Eira revived him with Arcanis's heart, which preserved traces of the guardian's essence. Jareth is a separate person from Arcanis.

Appearance

Jareth is tall, with angular features and dark streaked hair. When the atraxi illness weakened him, pale opalescent patches spread across his skin.

History

Vireen and the atraxi migration

After Arcanis's body dissolved on Vireen, Eira kept his heart and geometric core. Dhalvor killed two atraxi who emerged from a gate. Eira took their bodies aboard a ship, revived one with Arcanis's heart and the other with Barachiel's, and sent them through the void toward Atraxis Prime Alpha. The man carrying Arcanis's heart became Jareth; the other became Belanor. Neither remembered his former life. Eira put the geometric core in Jareth's pocket before sending him away.

Work in Chronasis

Jareth and Cyrena built the train prototype and prepared the construction instructions for the legions laying its tracks. The completed trains used aether artifacts, essence engines and magnetism. Jareth built panoramic windows so passengers without magic could see the landscape, and the first service connected Chronasis to Irrathis through Thalmyris and Velundra.

After Thalena and Deylin vanished, Jareth and Astryx searched the void from Chronasis. They sensed Thalena and other people before the signatures disappeared. His later searches found no trace of them.

She later told him about his origin in Chronasis.

Jareth built panoramic windows so passengers without magic could see the landscape, and the first service connected Chronasis to Irrathis through Thalmyris and Velundra. He continued work on engines, gate activators and the windweaver docks.

After Thalena and Deylin vanished, Jareth and Astryx searched the void from Chronasis. They sensed Thalena and other people before the signatures disappeared. His later searches found no trace of them.

Cassian gave Jareth the black box containing Abraxas. Its original machinery could not withstand ordinary essence use. Working in the void with atraxi tools, Jareth altered it using amounts of essence small enough to avoid destroying it. The box then responded to its holder's will. He gave Cassian instructions for using it. The box later responded to Cassian's will by taking a woman's shape.

After Abraxas was destroyed, Jareth examined the particles that remained, and Jin Leiyun transferred them into one of Cyrena's empty cores. They sealed the core for storage. Jareth could not restore him.

During the rescue from the void, Jareth used Cyrena's cylinder to activate the Chronasis gate and brought essence cores through it. He later joined Amos in searching for Alistair after Alistair disappeared into the void. They found nothing.

Jareth and Cyrena also built an apparatus from Eliona's schematics to work on surviving Malverand hearts. Isandriel's heart did not respond. Brynor's heart responded when white essence was infused into it, and Jareth reported further progress to Thalena.

Shores of Eternity

In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, Jareth and Amos helped evacuate people from the other Valrindor as the attacking fleet was destroyed. Jareth carried Eamon into the void and returned with Thalena to rescue others. He and Amos later made more gate activators for the evacuation.

Relationships

  • Amos: Jareth's longtime research partner. Together they rebuilt atraxi technology with essence and made the gate activators, Atraxis Prime and the Temple of No Return.
