Virel

Overview

Virel Tessaro wields Nahm for Haverloch as a high-level active mage. He works for the Axial Concord as a high-speed diplomat, scout, commander, and planner, carries Nahm's geometric shard, and carries out Nahm's work as a primary mortal agent for the god.

Virel prizes precision, symmetry, and disciplined service. He is formal and analytical. He protects allies, keeps diplomatic promises, stays with Vianna during Morozkaya's grief over Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Kyrana's deaths, and openly grieves Remus after the Battle for Cyndarel.

Appearance and Personality

Virel has white or crystalline white eyes, a slender frame, and carefully maintained hair and robes. He favors immaculate Haverloch clothing, especially symmetrical black-and-white or pale formal robes, and uses vector magic for small corrections to clothing, hair, and movement. During his Thalassai infiltration, he roughens his appearance and wears red Pyrenis-style clothing to pass as a local.

His speech is polite, exact, and often diplomatic. He thinks in terms of alignment, logic, calculations, and clean outcomes, making him a strong strategist. He is socially awkward in personal matters. His fixation on symmetry extends to uneven clothing, city layouts, flight paths, and even hairstyles during stressful situations.

Abilities

Virel's main discipline is vector magic. He uses it to fly at extreme speed, redirect attacks, alter trajectories, guide allies, amplify outside force, and perform fine adjustments. His redirection can turn aside or repurpose lightning, air blasts, cosmic beams, ice, debris, and similarly large battlefield attacks when he can calculate the vectors in time.

He is also a strong cosmic mage. He creates layered barriers, beams, missiles, glyphs, maps, and meteor attacks, and he uses cosmic barriers for flight, protection, heat, and battlefield shielding. At Rimvold and Cyndarel, he redirects allied attacks into enemies, guides meteors away from civilian targets, and protects allied mages under severe pressure.

During his Thalassai infiltration, Virel hides his vector and cosmic magic and poses as a level-seven fire and divine mage. His fire knowledge later guides Vianna toward hotter fire and plasma principles after studying Thalassai methods.

As Nahm's wielder, Virel carries the geometric shard in his palm. Nahm speaks through it, returns divine essence to it, descends near Virel, and uses Virel's position for intelligence and relay work. Virel's attunement to Nahm is disrupted by Varnhallow's temporal collapse and later requires realignment.

History

Isaac trains Virel in Haverloch as part of the preparation for the Symmetry Trials, and Virel becomes Nahm's wielder because he is the strongest candidate. Isaac's Haverloch work intersects with Thalena, Hrzai, and Tal'Massar's effort to end Jorhan and the darkness: Thalena sends Hrzai to direct Isaac toward Vianna in Brighthaven and Virel in Haverloch, and Isaac is already training Virel when Hrzai reaches Haverloch. Virel grows into Nahm's Haverloch envoy and Axial Concord commander after Ozaith's sea barrier falls. He visits Morozkaya to warn Vianna and Pyrathalor about Thalassai, asks Morozkaya to join the alliance, and repeatedly tries to investigate Varnhallow.

Virel infiltrates Thalassai by posing first as a lost fisherman and then as a promising fire and divine mage. Hadrian recommends him to the Thalassai legions, where Virel rises to centurion and then legatus through tactical skill and restrained magic. He serves in Chronasis under Aelius, oversees colosseum duties, studies Thalassai politics and technology, and tracks Thalena closely. His mission collapses when Pyrathalor attacks Thalena near Chronasis and Thalena's prepared trap exposes the infiltration.

After the failed Thalassai Invasion, Virel returns to Haverloch with the surviving Haverloch and Morozkayan mages. He goes with Vianna and Maia to Morozkaya, trains with Vianna during Kyranthos's rebuilding after Pyrathalor's destruction, and keeps Varnhallow on the diplomatic agenda with Skarnheim and Kaldaryn. He later travels with Vianna and Maia to Haverloch and Arcanis Village, where Nahm confronts Isaac.

Inside Varnhallow's unstable temporal space, Virel moves among displaced groups that include Deylin, Anshar, Felix, Isaac, Vianna, and Zhang as they converge on Astralynne and the Grand Court. Under Isaac's orders, Virel rescues Lysander and turns Vianna's attack back against her as part of the plan to return specific displaced people to their proper time. When Varnhallow collapses, Virel returns near Arcanis Village three years after his departure and redirects a white-robed attacker's blast back at him.

During the Siege of Rimvold, Virel patrols Haverloch's borders, investigates Brahzûn with Remus, carries Haverloch intelligence between allied leaders, and commands Haverloch-aligned forces against Zain's occupation of Rimvold. He fights beside Thorik, Lythariel, Glin, Remus, and Zayren, redirects attacks, and tries to limit damage to the city.

At Cyndarel, Virel joins Aldar, Garrik, Astheron, Zhang, Maric, and allied mages against Gabriel's faction. He redirects Astheron's beams into Gabriel, amplifies Garrik's strikes, shields allies, and later fights Azarion beside Maric. When Azarion's hurricane grows out of control, Virel rescues Astheron and escapes with Splin. After reaching safety, he mourns Remus and argues that Raphael's death leaves their enemies vulnerable.

Relationships

Nahm is Virel's god, shard partner, and constant strategic voice. Virel serves Haverloch through Nahm, Simon, Remus, Felix, Celia, and the Axial Concord.

Virel's closest cross-national ties include Vianna, Maia, Kren, Kaelion, Aelius, Thorik, Lythariel, Sigurd, Garrik, Aldar, Astheron, Maric, Zayren, Glin, and Splin. His time in Thalassai gives him working relationships with Hadrian, Aelius, Kaelion, and Ignaros, and those relationships persist after the Thalassai Invasion leaves them as uneasy allies.

Isaac is Virel's former teacher and sends him through Nahm, Thalassai, and Varnhallow. He trains Virel because Virel is the strongest Symmetry Trials candidate, and later uses Virel's speed, trust, and Axial Concord standing during the Varnhallow extraction plan.
