History
Departure from Ulzathir
After Ozaith's death, Anshar informed the council and warned Zain that its members were scheming. Zain attacked its leader, Alistair Koss, and took control of Ulzathir. Anshar had refused to join the invasion of Thalassai and did not want a civil war over the throne. He left with his sister Thea, pretending they were traveling to Haverloch on a diplomatic mission. Instead, they sailed to Chronasis with Felix.
Anshar told Cassian and Thalena about Ulzathir's leadership and drew them a detailed map of Valrindor. He agreed to work for Cassian in return for sanctuary for himself and his close family.
Varnhallow
The timerift attack at Stella Aeterna took Thea away and left Anshar without both legs. Ilyra restored them, with Thalena helping to heal his remaining injuries. He joined Deylin and Felix in searching Varnhallow for the missing people.
Anshar found Thea, but she chose to stay with Thalion. When the others escaped, two mages ambushed them near Arcanis Village. Anshar shielded the group and fought alongside Zhang, but their opponents overwhelmed them.

Departure from Ulzathir
Anshar grew up under the harsh teachings of Ulzathir's ruling family. His wife, children and grandchildren lived in Khaladun, north of the capital. He wanted to keep his family safe rather than compete for power.

Anshar also recognized that the burning shard Zain displayed did not bear Ozaith's mark.

Emperor of Ulzathir
Before the invasion, Anshar helped Jin Leiyun and Aelius rebuild their magic after returning from the void. He also trained Cassian.
Anshar and Hadrian led Thalassai's attack on Solvarria. Zain forced them to retreat, but Anshar then helped plan the attack on Ishtanûr, advising on Ulzathir clothing and local routes. He fought Zain directly, deflecting his fire while Cassian and the others closed in.
After Zain's defeat, Anshar took temporary control of Ulzathir. Cassian persuaded him to accept the throne despite his reluctance. Ishqari and Zhulkar endorsed him, and he was crowned emperor in Ishtanûr. He promised unity and trade, publicly establishing friendship with Thalassai and Haverloch.
Anshar argued that his surviving siblings had been led astray and should be spared. He kept Khezriya confined with Ishqari rather than leave either sister in solitary imprisonment, and sent Zhulkar to the Valrindor Council.
Thalena’s account
In Thalena’s Shores of Eternity, Anshar sent Zhulkar on the Council’s expedition to Ithyreon. After Ishqari’s crystal exploded, the collapsing desert displaced the lake feeding Ishtanûr’s river and flooded the city. At a later gathering in Chronasis, Anshar urged the other leaders to hear Thalena out when she ordered them to remain in Chronasis.
