Isandro

Overview

Isandro is the emperor of the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, ruling from Maraveth with Rafe and Eamon among his closest advisors. His reign depends on the empire's Maraveth Core and nanite-based spell technology, while Helena Hyperion's essence collapse, the Zarephon breach, and the Proxion evacuation pull him into direct work with Amos and the visitors from the other Valrindor.

Isandro is composed, curious, and almost unfailingly controlled in public. He remains composed after Rafe shoots Helena Hyperion's essence-made body in his palace, then turns immediately to containment orders, technical approvals, and private briefings. His public rule is also heavily managed: prerecorded messages carry his image across the empire, autonomous systems direct much of civic life, and imperial security can act with extreme force when a threat is classified as dangerous.

Appearance and Manner

Isandro has short silver hair, gray eyes, gray imperial clothing, and a familiar, "eternal" smile that is Thalena's last image when her essence-made body dies in his arms.

He is protective of the empire and drawn to dangerous knowledge. He hides threats that could cause panic, restricts access to classified systems, and keeps operating even when the Proxion emergency, the Zarephon breach, and Maraveth Core instability overlap. He also listens to criticism from people under his command and personally guides Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion after they arrive from the other Valrindor.

Abilities and Technology

Isandro uses Malverand's engineered spell technology. The empire's spells are nanite-mirrored versions of ancient cosmic, divine, and elemental magic. Helena led the empire's immortality research because she refused to let him die, and the empire later copied and altered ancient magic through nanotechnology. Isandro uses a blue-stranded effect that freezes the room for a moment, calling it a minor reversal spell, and he creates a liquid glass-like shield during a private discussion with Rafe, Mike, and Amos.

His body is extensively machine-altered. He belongs to a modified inner circle whose bodies carry heavy nanite alterations, additional internal technology, and can interface directly with the Maraveth Core, though they avoid interfacing with the core. Isandro's own composition repels essence and is as much machine as human.

Isandro has direct authority over the empire's core systems, void research, gate work, security designations, and high-clearance scans. He authorizes comparisons between the Maraveth Core, the void entity later named Oktlix, Helena, and Thalena; grants Amos restricted core data; and gives Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion limited advisor access, wrist devices, essence-containing clothes, and dark interface glasses. After studying the visitors' origin magic, he classifies it as an overgrown form of Malverand technology and offers to teach counters once more urgent problems are handled.

History

After Thalena arrives in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, Isandro, Rafe, and Eamon already have heavily nanite-altered bodies and direct access to imperial technology. During the forbidden Atraxis-system trip, the empire's expansion policy, prerecorded imperial messages, autonomous civic systems, and aggressive enforcer authority prioritize external progress while citizens lose unity and direction. Thalena later goes to Isandro's palace in Maraveth during the crisis around the breach beneath Zarephon.

Thalena reaches Isandro's palace in Maraveth as an essence-made copy. Isandro scans her; the palace system lists Helena Hyperion as a missing goddess. He embraces her and promises to send her message to the friends trapped in the void. Rafe shoots her because he believes she is threatening the emperor. Isandro is devastated, but he immediately joins Amos, Rafe, Eamon, Mike, Luke, and Elias in preserving what remains of her essence and investigating why it is being pulled toward Zarephon.

The investigation forces Isandro to respond to the Zarephon breach, core instability, the attack on Proxion, and the Spiral Mandate threat at once. Isandro refuses to shut down the core because Proxion's evacuation and navigation systems depend on it, then authorizes Amos's repeated dives into the void to recover Thalena and the other capsule-bound survivors.

After Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion emerge through the Zarephon breach, Isandro welcomes them into the Malverand Intergalactic Empire despite their strength and the security risk they pose. He studies their bodies and abilities, traces their origin magic to Malverand nanite technology grown beyond its original limits, discusses the two Valrindors with Amos and Ozaith, and explores whether the visitors and their gods can restore Thalena and defend the empire.

Xarion believes Ozaith can restore Thalena and the other capsule-bound survivors, but Isandro refuses to attempt the restoration in the Malverand world and wants them taken home first. While the Proxion emergency continues, Isandro keeps the Zarephon breach open because it may let the empire push back the attackers. He also authorizes experimental countermeasures against the Spiral Mandate, including reflective nanite defenses tested through Vespera.

Relationships

  • Helena Hyperion: Helena led the immortality research that saved Isandro's life; later Malverand researchers copied and altered ancient magic through nanotechnology. Thalena's return as Helena triggers Isandro's attempts to recover her and the capsule-bound survivors from the void.
  • Rafe and Eamon: Isandro's closest advisors, both deeply involved in core security, Zarephon operations, and classified core-and-breach response.
  • Mike: A leading Maraveth medic and researcher who handles Helena's essence with Isandro, runs void-gate experiments, and develops defensive nanite technology.
  • Amos: An atraxi scientist whom Isandro grants increasing trust and access during the void recovery.
  • Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion: Visitors from the other Valrindor whom Isandro studies, equips, and guides after their arrival through the breach.
  • Spiral Mandate: The external enemy attacking Proxion.
