Overview
Rafe is Maraveth's overseer and an advisor to Emperor Isandro in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire, working beside Eamon and Mike after Helena Hyperion reaches Isandro's palace, during the Zarephon breach work, through Amos's void dives, and when essence threatens the imperial core. He has white hair and icy eyes, and he responds to threats with a mix of command authority, technical skill, and severe caution.
Authority and Technology
Rafe has authority over imperial officers, researchers, and restricted palace technology. After Thalena's essence-made body dies in Isandro's palace, he removes Luke and Elias from their Chronasis designations and places them directly under the emperor's advisors. He works through scanners, wrist devices, capsules, consoles, lightcasters, and green guns, and he prepares containment equipment when essence threatens Maraveth's core.
Rafe belongs to Isandro's long-lived inner circle. His immortality and high palace rank make him a target of internal criticism, especially from Luke. His fingers reshape and release black particles when he alters machinery, and he understands the empire's nanite-based spell technology, including reflective nanites, core feeds, and essence-repelling defensive constructs.
History
Rafe is in Isandro's palace when Thalena reaches it as an essence-made copy of Helena Hyperion. Believing she means to kill Isandro, he shoots her with a green gun and immediately apologizes for killing Helena Hyperion's essence-made body. He then joins Mike in preserving her disintegrating particles in a specialized capsule and insists on protecting her memories.
When Thalena's essence triggers a core emergency, Rafe, Isandro, Amos, Mike, Eamon, Luke, Elias, and imperial researchers stabilize the core and cut dangerous feeds to Zarephon. Rafe prepares capsules and a lightcaster for Amos's void dives, receives recovered essence traces, and tracks Thalena's essence and the additional traces held in a secure case.
At Zarephon, Rafe and Mike build a black defensive construct designed to pass through the breach, repel essence, and protect the other side. When Eira, Kaelion, and Xarion emerge through the breach, he scans them, warns against magic near the core, clears researchers away from them, and monitors their movements in the empire. Isandro later sends Rafe to escort Xarion toward Earth.
