Kren was one of the mages who accompanied Khoradyn into the northern mountains of Keldara. When Khoradyn returned alone after twenty years, Kren was still missing. Rhalyn had returned from the expedition much earlier, but Khoradyn could not explain what had happened to the others.
Kren is an air mage from Keldara, Rhalyn's brother, and a member of Garrik's army in Kaldaryn. He accompanied Khoradyn into Valrindor and helped train Jin at Cloudrift Temple.
Magic
Kren favors precise air attacks and teaches Keldaran combat. He helped Jin improve his control through sparring and instruction. He also flies to search for enemies.
History
Kren accompanied Khoradyn's expedition through the northern Keldaran mountains. They spent several months at Cloudrift Temple in Thundermarch, where Kren and Rhalyn helped train Jin. Kren stayed close to his sister, but she chose to remain at the temple when he left with Khoradyn and Zhang. Before departing, he asked Jin to look after her.
When Malcairn warned that shapers were attacking Hengvaris, Khoradyn sent Kren ahead with an elite detachment. He led the group through the air while Garrik followed with the main army.
Kren later served in Garrik's army in Kaldaryn. He reunited with Jin in Stormpeak during the shaper invasion and asked about Rhalyn, who had returned to Xalmyrra without her memories. He was relieved to hear she was well, though he feared that crossing the storms to visit her would cost them their memories again.
Kren helped scout for the invading shapers and volunteered to guard the mountain pass to Xalmyrra. When Jin found the attackers and prepared Raindawn's defense, Kren returned to the pass. He later arrived in Raindawn exhausted, reporting that the pass defenders had killed most of the shapers there but that about five had escaped through. He apologized to Jin and planned to report the battle to Garrik.

Kren welcomed her without demanding an account of her past, and they became lovers.
They visited Rimvold on a journey to exchange knowledge of magic. There, they studied an ancient book concerning Arcanis and the gods. When Vianna learned that Julian was alive, Kren offered to accompany her to Brighthaven. Julian said a foreigner would need permission to enter, and Vianna left with her brother.

Varnhallow and the Order
A timerift struck the council meeting in Kyranthos and took Kren, Zhang, Ivan and Svanhild into Varnhallow. In Astralynne, Kren reunited with Vianna again and helped plan an attack on Eltaru. He and Svanhild struck a disguised Thalion instead. Thalion's golden lightning defeated them, and Aurelia healed Kren before the survivors escaped aboard skyships.
The fleet emerged in ancient Skarnheim. Kren joined Thalion's Order and led its air mages with Rhyz during the defense of Rimvold. He then took part in the raid on Jazarel, where the attackers wore Uriandel's colors to implicate him. Kren signaled the assault and protected Vianna when Jeremiah intercepted her retreat. After she forced Jeremiah to return to his city by threatening further attacks, Kren carried her to Isandriel for healing.
Thalion required Kren and Vianna to hide their original names during their travels. Kren became Gren, while Vianna became Viviana. They visited Brighthaven with Isandriel and Aurelia. When Viviana awakened Pyrathalor and the resulting explosion devastated Radiance Prime, Gren tried to steer their group through the air. They left after Alistair ordered them away and brought Pyrathalor to the village of Kyranthos.
Ulzathir and the plains
In Ulzathir, Gren transported supplies and refugees with his air magic. Soon after Aurelia gave birth, he and Viviana met her newborn daughter, Helena Hyperion. Viviana chose her first name.
Gren and Viviana later joined Aurelia and Ulzathir's army on the march into the Plains of Eternity. Near its borders, their magic became difficult to control: Gren's attempt at a simple breeze caused an explosion. They spent a year adapting to the plains and teaching other mages before the army continued deeper into them.

They later joined Aurelia and Ulzathir's army on the march into the Plains of Eternity, spending a year adapting to its effects on their magic and teaching other mages.
The Plains of Eternity
In Myriandel, Gren researched the war and questioned inconsistencies in Aurelia's account. He shared his concerns with Nadun. When Sharuzh, Ranan and Nuvyra murdered Nadun, Gren restrained Viviana because the attackers were too far away and Ranan and Nuvyra were as strong as Gren and Viviana. He carried her away. Sharuzh blamed Abraxas for the murder. Gren and Viviana later fled the army by flying out over Lake Eternity.
Thamrielle rescued them from attacking creatures. After they tried to catch a giant bird's chick for food, Kallion and Rhyz rescued them from its mother. They asked Isandriel to spare the bird. When Thamrielle lost control while carrying an essence core mistaken for the Source, Gren and Rhyz scouted the pursuing Myrravel army. Isandriel enchanted Gren to intercept her, and Gren's air attacks helped create an opening for Isandriel to reach her.
Gren and Viviana then turned to the approaching army. He blasted apart a bridge the enemy tried to build across a valley, delaying its advance, and took on Ranan while Igor and the Ereshval forces joined the fight. After the army's defeat, Gren interrogated prisoners and allowed Viviana to kill Aurelia. Ozaith tried to contact him, but Gren lacked the strength needed for the god to descend through him. After Abraxas seized the core, Gren and Viviana joined Tal'Massar and Drashir in the search for Isandriel. Drashir lifted Isandriel away from approaching lava.
The Malverand vault
Back in Rimvold, Gren helped rebuild cities and asked Rhyz for further instruction. When Thalion insisted that he, Viviana and Igor return with the Order, Gren objected to disregarding Viviana's wishes. Thalion threatened to bring them by force if necessary. The route through Varnhallow had become unsafe, so Eira led them to the Malverand vault beneath ruined Maraveth. Gren cut off the hands containing the gods' shards and cores so Eira could preserve them separately, then entered temporal stasis alongside Viviana.

Return to Valrindor
Lysander carried Kren and Vianna out of the vault. The long suspension left them barely able to move or eat without help. They went to Kyranthos and gradually recovered through practice, with Lysander helping them regain their magic. Kren promised to remain at Vianna's side and accompanied her to the campaign against Ulzathir.
During the advance on Ishtanûr, he cut through enemy mages with air blades and shielded Vianna. When Zhulkar threw her toward the ground, Aelius's glaive forced him to adjust his attack, and Kren caught her with an air cushion. Kren later joined the fighting near Cyndarel and escaped Azarion's hurricane on Gin with Vianna, Aelius and Maric, clearing debris from the astragon's path.
After reaching Kaldaryn, he comforted Vianna over Khoradyn and Zhang's deaths. Garrik sent him to search Cyndarel for Raphael's missing heart. He reunited with Jin and reported that the search had found nothing. During the later advance into Azarion's hurricane, he remained with Astheron and the other mages to intercept approaching enemies while Garrik, Jin and Maric went ahead. He later decided to relocate to Kyranthos.
Thalena's account
In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, Garrik reported a devastating eruption at Kyranthos. Kren and Vianna defended the city but died when the lava swallowed them.
