Overview
Ivan is a Morozkayan earth mage, architect, and council member from Kyranthos. He mentors Vianna in earth magic, remains with Morozkaya's council after Pyrathalor is lost and Kazimir and Kyrana die, and later serves Thalion's time-displaced Order of Thalion Zenith as Igor. Morozkayan history later reveres him under the name Igor the Builder.
Morozkayan Council and Service
Ivan trains Vianna alongside Kazimir, Kyrana, and Liana, teaching precision and patience in earth magic. He prepares Morozkaya's armies and fortifications for the invasion of Thalassai, works on construction around Kyranthos, and stands among the leaders who give Vianna the Glaive of Frost and Fire.
After the invasion of Thalassai, Ivan and Liana steady Vianna, push her toward leadership, send messages to allies, and keep Kyranthos's council functioning during Morozkaya's later recovery.
Thalion's Order
Ivan vanishes during a timerift in the Ember Spire with Kren, Zhang, and Svanhild. After the timerift sends him into the past, he becomes Igor, a large-scale earth mage for Thalion's Order, and chooses to serve Thalion's cause.
As Igor, he builds roads, walls, concealed terrain, and hidden skyship docks around Rimvold, including the city's hidden skyship docking bay inside a mountain. During the Jazarel Battle, he coordinates part of the ground assault, raises a colossal wall, reshapes the shoreline of Jazarel Lake, and later uncovers Jeremiah deep beneath the ruined ground. He then travels through the former Jazarel Empire to rebuild towns and regions damaged by the flood.
Magic and Temperament
Ivan's earth magic works at architectural, civic, and battlefield scale. He raises fortifications, shapes volcanic stone, hides skyships beneath disguised terrain, cuts through shorelines, opens tunnels, triggers landslides from below, restrains prisoners in rock, and creates terrain models for military planning. His later work includes the great wall around the Morozkayan peninsula and the wall that keeps Kyranthos sealed away from outside armies.
Ivan is practical, stoic, and loyal. He respects the Order's campaign against Malverand's surviving guardians and repeatedly does what he considers necessary. He sometimes disagrees with Thalion's methods. He is especially protective of Vianna, refusing to leave without her after Myrravel's army and Ulzathir traitors try to seize the source essence core and returning to Morozkaya with her after the Order's final stasis.
Later Life and Remembrance
As Igor the Builder, Ivan becomes a revered builder in Morozkayan history. Kyranthos's archives credit him with the massive wall around the peninsula and with building villages, towns, fortifications, and cities across wide travels.
After Ivan is recovered from stasis, he is alive but aged, with mostly gray hair and no magic extending his life. He considers himself too old for further military service and prefers managing Kyranthos, though Xarion names him as a strong candidate to represent Morozkaya in a future Valrindor council.
