Character Network

Rhyzmar is an air mage and guild master of the Adventurers' Guild in Teryndal. He works closely with Aldar and Xarion, supplying explorers, helping organize tournaments, and defending Xalmyrra against the darkness.

Appearance and magic

He has blue eyes, graying hair, and a steel staff that he habitually spins. His air magic lets him fly rapidly over long distances, amplify his voice across crowds, and direct powerful winds and shockwaves through his staff. He can heat the air to counter ice attacks.

Personality

Rhyzmar values adventure and the independence of his guild's members. He is relaxed and teasing, inventing extravagant titles for tournament competitors. He resists treating the adventurers as an army under his command and challenges decisions that endanger civilians.

History

As guild master, Rhyzmar helped Aldar and Xarion prepare tournaments in Irrathis and announced matches using air magic.

During the cataclysm, he shattered falling spikes above Irrathis and joined Eira, Lythariel, and Renneth in resisting the meteor's shockwave. He urged Xarion to help survivors before pursuing war against Aurion, but accompanied the subsequent march while asking him to avoid bloodshed. After Eira's power destroyed the opposing armies, Rhyzmar and Renneth held back a shadow attacker threatening the surviving leaders. He later supported Aldar's proposal for an alliance and a joint expedition into the Land of Darkness.

Relationships

  • Aldar and Xarion: Longstanding colleagues whose expeditions and public work draw on the Guild. Rhyzmar cooperates with them while defending the adventurers' freedom, and opposed Xarion's rush to war.
  • Renneth: A trusted adventuring companion whose strength Rhyzmar relied on against the shadow attacker.

Rhyzmar, also known as Rhyz, was an air mage and guild master of the Adventurers' Guild in Teryndal. Displaced into Varnhallow's ancient past, he helped establish the Order of Thalion Zenith in Skarnheim.

Appearance

He had blue eyes and graying hair. He wore dark robes and habitually spun a steel staff, often remaining airborne even during conversation.

Personality

Rhyzmar valued adventure and the independence of his guild's members. His relaxed manner and teasing humor persisted through dangerous work, but he challenged decisions that endangered civilians. He urged Xarion to help cataclysm survivors before pursuing war and to avoid bloodshed when confronting Aurion.

Magic

Rhyzmar specialized in air magic. He flew rapidly over long distances, surveyed enemy territory from above, and carried others in bubbles of air. Through his staff, he directed shockwaves and powerful currents, including heated cones that opposed ice attacks. He also amplified voices across crowds and reinforced allies' attacks by controlling the surrounding air.

History

The Adventurers' Guild

As guild master, he worked closely with Aldar and Xarion, providing explorers and helping with tournaments in Irrathis. He announced matches using air magic and invented teasing titles for competitors. He resisted treating the adventurers as an army under his command, though many experienced members supported Teryndal.

During the cataclysm, he shattered falling spikes above Irrathis and joined Eira, Lythariel, and Renneth in resisting the meteor's shockwave. He accompanied Xarion's subsequent march against Aurion, while asking him to seek a peaceful resolution. After Eira's power destroyed the opposing armies, Rhyzmar and Renneth held back a shadow disciple attacking the surviving leaders. He later supported Aldar's proposal for an alliance and a joint expedition into the Land of Darkness.

When darkness besieged Dravemir, he scouted the threatened villages and carried Aurion's request for help toward Varentis. He subsequently fought near Dravemir and amplified the evacuation warning when Xol'Zahir approached. He also agreed to post Guild quests to support Teryndal's reconstruction.

Displacement and the Order

A timerift took Rhyzmar from Irrathis while he was with Aldar. Stranded alone in ancient Varnhallow, he learned its language and served Wilfred while searching for a way home. After about ten years, he reunited with Xarion, Aelius, and Theia.

He helped Xarion obtain Wilfred's endorsement for a patriarch claim. Rhyzmar and Theia then staged an apparent resistance attack on Benedict, allowing Xarion and Aelius to remove Wilfred. When Xarion became Thalion Zenith, Rhyzmar served among his protectors. He helped evacuate Luminaris and piloted the escaping skyship with Benedict through timerifts. Eltaru granted him patriarch rank.

The refugees reached 2085 AX and founded Skarnheim, with Rimvold as its capital. Rhyzmar joined Thalion's Order, directed air mages alongside Kren, and scouted enemy territory with Theia. He infiltrated Uriandel's army with Svanhild, adopted the name Rhyz, and reported the guardian's doctrine concerning outsiders. During the Order's battles, he caught injured Benedict and Ignatius in air bubbles and strengthened Ignatius's plasma attacks against Jeremiah.

Rhyz continued scouting for the Order after the guardians escaped their enemies. He and Theia investigated Morindel and Maraveth, confirming that their rulers recognized Skarnheim as an enemy.

Relationships

  • Renneth: A trusted adventuring companion whose strength Rhyzmar relied on against the shadow disciple.
  • Aldar and Xarion: Longstanding colleagues whose expeditions and public work drew on the Guild. Rhyzmar opposed Xarion's rush to war, but later helped him build and defend the Order as Thalion Zenith.
  • Theia: His close scouting companion in the Order. He comforted her after Mia died.

History

The Adventurers' Guild

Rhyzmar found Renneth in a dungeon during a quest and understood that he had entered the last Xalmyrran cycle from outside. He formed a private adventuring group with Renneth, Deylin, and John.

Displacement and the Order

Thalena, Silas, and Horol'Khai arranged the timerift that took Rhyzmar from Irrathis while he was with Aldar. Stranded alone in ancient Varnhallow, he learned its language and served Wilfred while searching for a way home. After about ten years, he reunited with Xarion, Aelius, and Theia.

The Plains and retirement

In 2107 AX, Rhyz joined Isandriel's expedition into the Isandriel Plains. He reunited with Kaelion at Qarezh and explained that thirty-two years had passed for him. His long adventuring experience helped him endure the Plains' atmosphere; he underwent Thamrielle's training before resuming magic there.

After Myrravel's forces threatened the expedition's return, he flew ahead to warn Thalion and obtain fleet assistance. He then intercepted Nuvyra, driving her away from Isandriel's evacuation and breaking Benedict's ice monolith into needles against her before the tsunami engulfed her. Skarnheim's fleet brought the survivors to Rimvold.

Rhyz and Theia chose to stay in Skarnheim when Thalion's companions left the past in 2114 AX. He offered to teach Gren and retired from regular adventuring.

History

The Adventurers' Guild

Rhyzmar found an injured, amnesiac child in a dungeon and brought him to the Guild. He named and raised the child Renneth, whose heart barely beat. Renneth became an adventurer in Teryndal; Rhyzmar did not know that he had once been Kharvos. He formed a private adventuring group with Renneth, Deylin, and John.
