Kharvos

god

Overview

Kharvos is an ancient Malverand fire-and-earth god created largely from Thamrielle's essence through Malverand's early god-core work. His fire-and-earth shard makes him Thamrielle's god and empowers her while she takes the source essence core from Zarephon. After Nerissa saves him, he lives in Thiravos and Theryssa as Pyragos under her protection. He later becomes Renneth after memory erasure and passage through the storms; Renneth's missing memories, weakened essence, and human body separate him from the old god he used to be. Renneth's pact with Maric makes Maric the wielder of Kharvos's shard.

Nature and Powers

Kharvos is an earth and fire god. Through the shard in Thamrielle's palm, he speaks to her, strengthens her magic, senses divine presences, and channels fire, earth, lava, and protective stone through her while she reaches the source.

As Pyragos, he can descend in human or childlike forms, suppress his divine essence, and withdraw into essence. His known human disguise has fire-brown hair and a brown robe marked with red flame patterns. Kharvos's power later lets Maric combine his own water magic with fire, earth, ice, heat, and dense stone manipulation, giving him a direct counter to Gabriel and Raphael.

Lava Shard

Kharvos's shard rests in the wielder's palm as a lava or fire-and-earth shard. Thamrielle carries the early form, while Maric later receives a burning slab of earth in his palm through Renneth.

History

Thamrielle's essence was largely used to create Kharvos, and Thamrielle and Kharvos took part in forging the core that became Pyrathalor. Kharvos belongs to the same ancient god-core generation as Gabriel, Khauren, and Nerissa.

During the expedition toward Zarephon, Kharvos receives information from a strange being that can reach the God Realm. The being directs him toward a moment when Abraxas will be occupied elsewhere and Thamrielle can claim the source; Thamrielle later believes the chosen are fighting the Oracles over the source while Myrravel and Ulzathir traitors advance from another side. The being's plan sends the source to "the chosen," but Kharvos and Thamrielle decline that plan and consider taking it to Isandriel or keeping it away from everyone else.

Kharvos guides Thamrielle to Zarephon, points her toward the source deep below the mountain lake, and stays with her as she enters the strangely undefended city. After she takes it, he advises secrecy, warns her to keep the source from Isandriel, and becomes unreachable to Tal'Massar. After Abraxas kills Thamrielle, an outside force invades and alters Pyragos's essence during the God Realm's origin-magic breakdown.

The attempt ends when Isandriel overpowers Thamrielle and prepares to unmake Thamrielle, Kharvos, and the source together. Before he can finish, Abraxas appears, stops him, takes the source, and disintegrates Thamrielle. Kharvos survives as Pyragos after Nerissa saves or protects him.

As Pyragos, he becomes a god of Thiravos and Theryssa alongside Nerissa. His statues, local worship, and island history preserve his place there, and Lucilla credits him with stabilizing the island nations. He avoids the God Realm and seeks Isandriel for answers about the damage. Origin-magic damage later reaches Jorhan, spiral shards, the God Realm, and non-Valrindor worlds such as Vireen, Atraxis, and Earth.

Kharvos/Pyragos later becomes Renneth. Kharvos and Pyragos are Renneth's earlier selves, while his erased memories, weakened essence, and human body change him from the old god he used to be. Through Renneth's pact with Maric, the fire-and-earth shard returns in a new form. After losing to Maric near Rimvold, Gabriel knows Maric as Kharvos's shard wielder.

Relationships

  • Thamrielle is Kharvos's first known wielder and closest early bond. Malverand used much of her essence to create him, and his shard empowers her when she takes the source essence core from Zarephon.
  • Nerissa saves or protects him after Abraxas takes the source at Zarephon and later grants him some of her followers in Thiravos and Theryssa.
  • Renneth is Kharvos/Pyragos after memory erasure and passage through the storms, and Maric becomes Kharvos's shard wielder through Renneth's pact.
  • Isandriel is the person Pyragos seeks for answers about the Zarephon expedition and its aftermath, while Abraxas kills Thamrielle and steals the source.
