The Atraxis system was home to an advanced atraxi civilization, including Atraxis Prime Alpha. A blackness resembling the void engulfed their homeworld and its dying sun, forcing the survivors to flee aboard a spaceship and through a gate to Xalmyrra. Other expeditions had already been sent to find livable planets and build gates there.
The Atraxis system is the ruined home system of an ancient atraxi civilization in the Hyperion Spiral. Its star is dead. Atraxis Prime Alpha, Beta and Epsilon remain as lifeless planets. The Malverand Intergalactic Empire forbids visits to the system; Proxion is its nearest imperial system.
History
The atraxi governed several planets independently and sent expeditions to find livable worlds and build gates. Their worlds included Theta, Gamma and Delta, though the wider group of atraxi planets also included colonies outside the home system. Cities on Theta were built underground.
A blackness resembling the void engulfed their homeworld and its dying sun. Jorhan led refugees from Alpha aboard a spaceship, and Amos and Jareth powered a gate that allowed them to escape to Xalmyrra.
Amos later returned with Thalena. His ship detected Alpha, Beta and Epsilon, and they landed on Alpha to send gate schematics back through time.

Imperial researchers suspected that the Spiral Mandate had destroyed the civilization while exhausting other worlds' resources for its expansion. Eamon shared this theory with Amos, but the empire could not confirm the attacker after more than six millennia.
