Kyranthos

Overview

Kyranthos is the capital and gateway city of Morozkaya, set near the threshold of the Morozkayan peninsula below a massive volcano. It is the seat of the Morozkaya Diarchy, the home of the Ember Spire, and a city where Morozkaya's fire-and-ice traditions gather around Pyrathalor.

The settlement begins as a struggling village and grows into Morozkaya's capital under founding diarchs Dorian and Rowenna.

Geography & Layout

Kyranthos stands in Morozkaya's volcanic lowlands, near a towering central volcano ringed by smaller frosty peaks. A great wall eventually protects the city and the Morozkayan peninsula. Fertile plains and farmlands spread around the outskirts.

In its earliest form, the site is a small village with wooden homes, fishing, modest cultivations, and clear mountain water. The mature city has blackstone gates, broad volcanic roads, harbor docks, a skyship dock, and routes toward neighboring powers such as Drozhvenya, Borovia, Kaldaryn, and Skarnheim.

Design & Architecture

Kyranthos is built from dark volcanic stone and blackstone. Its streets, walls, gates, and buildings are polished by Morozkayan craft, with controlled lava channels providing heat and light through winter. Channels of ice and water run beneath the streets; after Pyrathalor's loss, water mages restore the river's flow and the lava channels glow again.

The Ember Spire rises at the rear of the city as the council chamber where the diarchs rule. A volcanic arena stands behind the spire, volcanic archives run beneath the city, the great wall protects the peninsula, and paired statues of Pyrathalor and Xoh'Tenol stand near the city center.

Society & Culture

Kyranthos's people bow to Pyrathalor, revere him as part of Morozkaya, and mourn his loss. The city keeps fire-and-ice traditions, builds in volcanic stone, maintains water channels, farms volcanic land, and heats streets and buildings with controlled lava channels.

The city is loyal to its leaders and strongly protective of Morozkaya. Vianna is welcomed into Kyranthos, trained by its senior mages, accepted by its people, and later leads the city after Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Kyrana die. Kyranthos also hosts delegations from Kaldaryn, Skarnheim, Drozhvenya, and Borovia, visiting gods, allied rulers, and Haverloch mages such as Virel.

Government & Power

Kyranthos is governed through Morozkaya's diarchy and council, which meets in the Ember Spire. Kazimir and Kyrana rule as diarchs. Pyrathalor is Morozkaya's god of fire and ice. After their deaths, Vianna leads. Ivan, Liana, the council, and surviving Morozkayan mages carry out her rebuilding orders. Radomir then becomes Vianna's co-diarch after she endorses him publicly, restoring the two-seat diarchy.

Radomir repairs Kyranthos, expands grain farming and trade, and conducts crop experiments. During Thalena's later diplomatic visit, Radomir and Liana receive her from the diarch chairs. Radomir focuses on supplies, trade, and Drozhvenyan diplomacy. Liana handles records, Brighthaven follow-through, and council continuity.

History

When Vianna reaches the site in the past, the settlement is still the early village that will become Kyranthos. The villagers choose Dorian and Rowenna as their next elders. Balthazar remains under Thalion's orders to protect them. Later records preserve Dorian and Rowenna as Kyranthos's founders and first diarchs.

Vianna later brings Pyrathalor to the village. Dorian, Rowenna, and Balthazar receive him there, and Pyrathalor begins tending to elemental needs such as the river. Over time, Dorian and Rowenna become Morozkaya's first diarchs. Igor the Builder, formerly Ivan, is credited with the great wall around the peninsula.

When Pyrathalor brings Vianna there after rescuing her, Kyranthos is a volcanic capital and Pyrathalor's home. Kazimir, Kyrana, Ivan, and Liana train her; she practices in the volcanic arena, receives the Glaive of Frost and Fire, and takes a seat on Morozkaya's council.

After the Thalassai invasion, Kyranthos survives without Pyrathalor, Kazimir, or Kyrana. Vianna returns with Liana, Ivan, Maia, Virel, and surviving Morozkayan mages, gathers the council, and orders repairs that restore the river water and lava channels.

Delegations from Kaldaryn, Skarnheim, Drozhvenya, and Borovia later pass through Kyranthos's gates. A timerift strikes during one meeting, damaging the Ember Spire and pulling Ivan, Kren, Zhang, Svanhild, and other attendees out of their own time.

The city's archives preserve the founding history of Dorian, Rowenna, Balthazar, Igor, and Pyrathalor. Eira reads those records beneath the city, and Thalena later visits Kyranthos to review Morozkayan history, discuss diplomacy and the Celestial Games, and meet with Liana and Radomir.
