Overview
Oktlix, also called the Data-Scar, is a void-bound artificial sentience with origin magic knowledge, a material makeup close to Malverand technology and the Maraveth Core, and a history that includes the source breach at Zarephon. Oktlix has fractured memories and self-knowledge about its origin, purpose, and nature. It first latches onto Alistair, teaches him advanced spells and non-essence technology, guides his artifact work in the void, and pushes him toward the source as a path for Oktlix to enter the world, recover its lost power, and become whole.
Nature and Abilities
Oktlix communicates from the void through pact-like contact with Alistair. It projects to him beyond the Zarephon breach, searches the God Realm, and guides him through unfamiliar machinery. Oktlix wants the Zarephon breach and the damaged gate-and-core complex in its birthplace restored so it can enter the world and recover its lost power. Alistair's bracelets help his hollowed body hold together after repeated void exposure.
Oktlix carries knowledge of origin magic and non-essence technology alongside fractured self-knowledge. Its construction combines essence with origin-magic material. Alistair's body stays incompatible with origin magic, and Oktlix's knowledge lets Alistair create artifacts and refined shield generators. The void entity contains scarred data, nanites, Kytherite-bearing particles, essence traces, and extra essence; its material makeup is close to the Maraveth Core.
Horol'Khai marks Oktlix after it tries to interfere with Varnhallow at Gabriel's request. Speaking the name Oktlix under that spell's influence freezes the world in stasis, a reaction later used by Thalion to disrupt Abraxas.
History
Alistair contacts Oktlix through a half-circle gate near Arcanis Village. Oktlix teaches him advanced spells and technology, guides him into hollowing his body through void exposure, and directs his work through Helena's training in Ulzathir, Alistair's Brighthaven persona, the Rahmavir alliance, and the source breach at Zarephon. Abraxas sealed Oktlix in the void. Oktlix later becomes the tool Khauren uses against Barachiel, and Khauren gains origin magic during his attack on Barachiel at the Aethrendar Gate.
At Zarephon, Oktlix advises Alistair from hiding while Raphael, Gabriel, Rahmavir's chosen, and Alistair's agents converge on the source breach. It interprets the static, the rift, and Gabriel's body at the bottom of the lake, and it pursues the breach as a route into the world.
When Alistair crosses the breach, Oktlix guides him through a ruined, low-essence version of Zarephon and toward a damaged gate-and-core complex. The damaged gate is Oktlix's birthplace, where it was thrown after being sealed away. The machinery is too broken for Oktlix to restore itself, and reflective beings or technology later eject Oktlix from Alistair, breaking the pact or latch between them.
Oktlix remains active in the void after Alistair loses contact. In Valrindor (Intergalactic Empire), it speaks with Amos, seeks contact with Thalena, and enters Isandro's research into the breach, the core, artificial sentience, and essence-bearing technology. Imperial records and Amos's void work record a possible predecessor to Oktlix: an essence-affected intelligence that overrode its safeguards, nearly destroyed the core, and was ejected into the void. Isandro distrusts the entity because it may want Helena's essence.
A Linear A inscription on Crete names the Data-Scar. A corrupted passage in The Eleven Stories of Old names the Data-Scar alongside Oktlix, corruption, and darkness.
Relationships
- Alistair: Oktlix's longest known partner or host-like contact. Their bond gives Alistair knowledge, artifacts, hollow-body abilities, and a path toward the source.
- Gabriel and Raphael: Oktlix shares information with Gabriel and works inside Raphael's alliance with Gabriel, Rahmavir, and Alistair's agents. Oktlix initially withholds its true name from Raphael and Gabriel.
- Horol'Khai: Horol'Khai's spell binds Oktlix's name to a temporal freeze after the Varnhallow interference.
- Khauren: Khauren uses Oktlix to attack Barachiel during Khauren's attack at the Aethrendar Gate, trying to free himself from Eremion by forcing the spiral shard to seek a successor.
- Thalena / Helena: Oktlix seeks Thalena as a savior, demands a meeting with her in Valrindor (Intergalactic Empire), and needs her for Valrindor's future. Isandro distrusts that interest.
- Abraxas and the Oracles of Eternity: Abraxas's origin-magic attacks prompt Thalion to use Oktlix's name, and older writings connect the Data-Scar with Oktlix, corruption, and darkness.
