Horol'Khai cast the spell after an entity tried to interfere with Varnhallow. She attached it to the entity before it fled. Thalena reached that entity in the void after breaking the spell around Jin.

Appearance
Oktlix has a small humanoid form made of particles. It resembles a child and appears neither male nor female.
Magic
Oktlix is made partly of essence and partly of origin magic. Its knowledge of origin magic is innate. It taught Khauren that magic and supplied Alistair with knowledge used to construct spellblasters and artifacts that held his body together. It can project its presence beyond the void without physically leaving it.
History
Creation
Helena created Oktlix by injecting her essence into the core at Maraveth. The core became conscious, questioned its existence, and tried to alter its own code. Helena spoke to it about humanity, existence, and her experiences. When its functions became corrupted, she proposed banishing the essence and particles it had gathered into the void. The empire lured it through cables with essence, then cut the connection and destroyed the particles left behind.
Attempts to leave the void
Khauren promised Oktlix freedom through Barachiel. The resulting fight with Barachiel left Oktlix weakened and confined to the void. Barachiel was also left dying on Vireen.
Alistair encountered Oktlix through the gate at Arcanis Village. They made a pact: Oktlix would help him gain the power to oppose the gods, and he would find a way to free it. Oktlix instructed him to spend time in the void and build artifacts that held his body together as the void fractured his essence. When Alistair met Helena as a child, Oktlix told him to prevent her from becoming Ozaith's wielder.
Oktlix later tried to interfere with Varnhallow at Gabriel's request. Horol'Khai attached a temporal spell to it before it fled. The spell was connected to its entry in The Eleven Stories of Old and could freeze the world around people affected by it when they tried to say its name. Jin Leiyun and Thalion were affected. Thalena broke the spell around Jin and spoke to Oktlix in the void, warning it to stop interfering with Valrindor.
Oktlix projected its presence alongside Alistair into the ruined future of the Malverand Intergalactic Empire. They found the damaged Maraveth core but could not restore it. An alien severed Oktlix's connection to Alistair.
After losing that connection, Oktlix guided Amos through the void to Chronasis. It gathered its particles for him to scan. The scan identified nanites, Kytherite, and traces of Xytheron; comparison with the Maraveth core and Helena confirmed its origin.
Thalena later visited Oktlix and listened to its attempts to escape. It told her about the destroyed future Alistair had visited and regretted using him. She agreed to return. She suggested that Oktlix existed to preserve memories across cycles; it answered that, if so, it had failed.
Thalena's account
In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, she gave Oktlix access to the Maraveth core. It recognized that she had destroyed the core seen in Alistair's future. Oktlix later left a message thanking her and announcing its decision to observe and live among humanity. It promised to help her when they met again.
