Overview
Hadrian is a Thalassai imperator based in Pyrenis, where he commands under Ignaros and leads the Thalassai legions alongside Aelius and Marcellus. He was previously imperator of Chronasis before Aelius took that post. He is a lightning and aether mage known for overwhelming speed, battlefield scouting, military intelligence, and legati training.
Appearance and Manner
Hadrian has orange hair, often accompanied by sparks, lightning-blue or lightning-streaked eyes, distinctive essence, overwhelming speed, static, and crackling lightning.
Hadrian is casual, mischievous, and openly teasing with trusted allies. He jokes with Cassian, Aelius, Kaelion, Jin, and Thalena, but his humor sits beside disciplined command and reliable military judgment.
Abilities and Command
Hadrian moves with lightning and aether magic, vanishing in flashes of electricity and crossing distances faster than powerful mages can track. As an imperator, he belongs to Thalassai's highest military rank, with power exceeding the archons. Kaelion repeatedly fails to defeat him in training, Jin loses to him in a lightning-and-speed duel, and Aelius and Marcellus are stronger while Hadrian remains dangerous even at Virel's scale.
His lightning magic is both a combat tool and a command tool. He gathers lightning for attacks, leaves static-charged wind behind when he departs, draws spark maps during battlefield briefings, and uses a lightning-bolt token as proof of his recommendation. His aether magic also gives him speed and rescue capability, including the gate rescue in which he and Astryx pull Thalena's group back from the void and Hadrian anchors Thalena's fading form.
History
During Thalena's inspections of the Thalassai military academy, Hadrian's essence, orange hair, and lightning-blue eyes set him apart among the new generation of Thalassai mages. He becomes imperator of Chronasis, trains legati, and takes charge of Aelius's military development after Thalena brings the young fire mage to the Pyrenis colosseum. Aelius later becomes imperator of Chronasis, while Hadrian commands in Pyrenis under Ignaros.
Under Cassian, Hadrian works as Thalassai's field scout and commander. He scouts eastern Valrindor, maps Ulzathir, Haverloch, Tharendur, and the Plains of Eternity, brings spark-drawn maps into Cassian's strategy sessions, and stands with the Thalassai delegation when foreign envoys arrive. He also trains or tests fighters and recruits, including Kaelion, Jin, Aelius, Virel, and the legati.
During the Thalassai takeover of Solvarria, Hadrian and Anshar lead the opening strike against Solvarria. Hadrian commands from a fast windweaver and links up with Kazehiro and Marcellus; Thalassai's takeover cuts Solvarria's trade lines with Ulzathir. After the essence-bomb devastation near Pyrenis, he proposes a full takeover of Ulzathir and joins Jin at the military academy to select Chronasis's best legati for the offensive.
Connections
Hadrian answers to Cassian, commands under Ignaros, trains Aelius and legati, scouts with Marcellus and Anshar, and backs Astryx during the void-gate rescue. His teasing rivalry with Aelius starts with Aelius's Pyrenis training, and he mentors and tests rising Thalassai fighters.
