Sephara

Overview

Sephara is an Oracle of Eternity, a lightning mage, and an envoy of Abraxas from the Plains of Eternity. She warns Uriandel and Isandriel about the Oracles' prophecies concerning outsiders and a destroyer, argues that the Oracles protect Valrindor by guarding the source, and traces their prophecies to the source and the River of Eternity.

After traveling with Thalion's group through the Crosford meeting with Uriandel and the Jazarel Battle, Sephara becomes a guarded captive and then a reluctant ally. In Thundermarch, she and Thalion summon rain for drought-stricken villages; she then accepts a deal to teach Stormbrook and remains there for years.

Appearance and Personality

Sephara has long dark-blond hair, green eyes, deep green robes, and an icy, uninviting intensity.

Sephara is controlled, watchful, and direct. She is devoted to the Oracles' mission. Thalion's rain work, source restraint, and Malverand focus lead her to reassess the destroyer prophecy.

Abilities

Sephara is a powerful lightning mage. She fires lightning strong enough to pierce skyship defenses, moves in bursts of lightning, keeps pace with elite mages during the Jazarel Battle, and gathers storm clouds over drought-stricken Thundermarch.

She uses lightning magic supported by essence use and essence cores, including large-scale storm work. She knows Oracles doctrine concerning the Plains of Eternity, the source, the River of Eternity, and Abraxas's interpretation of prophecy. In Stormbrook, she teaches lightning magic to Zhenyu Leiyun and the village, brings divine mages to injured allies, and joins John in secretly summoning storms that strengthen local worship of Tianlei.

History

Sephara enters the Crosford meeting beside Uriandel after persuading him that Abraxas's cause has been misunderstood. The Oracles receive source-born prophecy about a destined destroyer, and Abraxas is their Keeper of Prophecies.

She fights beside Uriandel during the Jazarel Battle, then follows Thalion's group after seeing his unusual golden lightning and fusion magic. Aboard the skyship, she presses Thalion and Isandriel to take the Oracles' prophecy seriously. The Plains of Eternity are the origin of magic, essence, life, and essence-infused creatures, and Sephara agrees to cooperate after Thalion disclaims interest in controlling the Plains or the source.

After Jazarel, Thalion keeps Sephara in Rimvold in Order custody. She remains there while the Order questions her and Thamrielle about Abraxas, Rahmavir, the source, and the Rahmavir-Oracles war over the source. Her mission was to judge Thalion's place in the destroyer prophecy, and her favorable judgment keeps Abraxas from ordering his death. Abraxas still considers Thalion dangerous because of the prophecy's links to Barachiel and the destroyer.

A year after Jazarel, Thalion brings Sephara, Ignatius, and Helena to Thundermarch. Sephara summons rain across drought-stricken villages with Thalion and then accepts Thalion's decision to leave her in Stormbrook as Zhenyu Leiyun's teacher. When Ignatius, John, Zero, and Kallion reach Stormbrook years later, Sephara is still there, teaching nearby villages, finding divine mages for injured allies, and upholding her deal with Thalion. After seeing Abraxas's changed state, she commits again to Stormbrook.

  • Thamrielle challenges Sephara's account of Abraxas, Rahmavir, and the Rahmavir-Oracles war over the source.
  • John and Sephara secretly summon storms in Stormbrook and aid the surrounding villages.
