Fusion Magic

Overview

Fusion magic combines two magic schools into one effect. It belongs above level nine in Arcanis's level model and requires high-level spell construction.

Examples

Fusion spells include temporal sun spears, plasma, golden lightning, golden hailstorms and the golden ice age, golden fire, plasma rain, and air-and-divine blasts.

Thalion, Raphael, Eremion, and Azarion each have recurring signature fusion spellwork. Ignatius fights with plasma, Kallion uses temporal sun spears, and Lucilla uses earth-and-divine fusion with traces of temporal magic.

Fusion Spells

Golden Lightning

Golden lightning is Thalion's signature fusion of lightning and divine magic. It first develops during the period when Thalion carries Tianlei's shard in Varnhallow and remains part of Xarion's combat style after his return.

Its forms include golden arcs, bolts, tendrils, shields, stormlight, and a smaller golden thunderstorm. Thalion uses it for speed, body reinforcement, melee strikes, ranged blasts, field communication, defensive shields, and formation-breaking strikes. At large scale it can destroy skyships and hammer formations; at close range it can shatter ice, scorch terrain, break through incoming spells, and disintegrate darkness creatures when controlled precisely.

Eshmir also channels golden lightning: she streaks through the air with golden-lightning movement while guarding Jorhan near Dravemir, and she fights Jin / Draven with divine-and-lightning spells.

Golden Hailstorm and Golden Ice Age

Golden hailstorms are Raphael's signature fusion of ice and divine magic. He integrates divine magic into ice spells, creating golden hailstorms that rain monolithic ice, freeze terrain, shatter skyships, and cover battlefields in lethal ice.

The golden ice age is the wide-scale form of the same spellwork. Raphael raises his arms and spreads blue-gold cold until clouds, ocean, ships, and wide regions freeze solid. Ignatius counters it with plasma heat. John / Jin and Tianlei break Raphael's concentration with lightning during the Maraveth War.

Golden Fire

Golden fire is Eremion's signature fire-and-divine fusion, shaped through high-level spellwork. It surrounds his body, hands, feet, and twin swords with golden flames; in combat it powers flight, acceleration, sword strikes, thrown blades, fire waves, cones, walls, and wide battlefield pressure.

The heat melts skyship decks, stone, and ground, ignites the air, leaves lingering heat, and creates explosive shockwaves. It can interfere with aether and temporal magic. Released golden-fire spells may continue after that interference; Thalena, Zero, Kallion, Raphael, and Isandriel resist, redirect, or disperse it in different ways.

During the Fall of Malverand, Eremion uses golden flames around Morindel and Jazarel, including the fight that creates the Morindel Sea. After Astrid brings Eremion back from his Malverand heart in Blackcrag, golden fire again powers his flight, sword strikes, and fire waves against Garrik's coalition and during the Maraveth War.

Plasma Rain

Plasma rain is Eremion's fusion bombardment. It fills the sky with plasma spheres, comets, and scorching golden-white light, then drops them onto fleets, shields, cities, and armies below.

Near Morindel, Zero and Kallion interrupt the casting, causing plasma comets to fall across both Eremion's fleet and Thalion's forces. At Maraveth, before Eremion can fully use it against Garrik's army, Thalena closes on him directly, and the plasma rain stops once she drives him away from the casting position.

Air-and-Divine Fusion

Azarion masters a rare fusion of air and divine magic. The divine air blast is a golden-sheened pressure spell that can be fired from skyships, break city defenses, liquefy airborne mages, carve deep lines through terrain, and damage even astragon-scale defenses.

Azarion also uses the fusion defensively and in close combat. He conjures layered golden shields, reinforces barriers around Eremion's skyship, moves at extreme speed, and fights Zero with divine-enchanted fists and kicks.
